offramp: Stockfish reckons that Gukesh is at -3.3.

<So lets see, now, Gukesh gets 1 share for being 1 player, 1 share for going down the playing hall, 1 share for the rook, and 1 share for having a rook <and> a bishop, but no matter how you figure it out, Gukesh still doesn't get as much as anybody else!>

Honza Cervenka: 60...Rb6 would be my choice. I don't know what white wants to do.

Honza Cervenka: 60...Rc4, well there was no need to be afraid of 61.Ke4 but I guess it is not a bad move.

  Sally Simpson: Hi Mateo,

<I like Giri but his logo jacket turns him into a sandwich man. Can you imagine Capablanca or Fischer wearing clothes with advertising on them? What a degradation of chess, of the noble game!>

For the next world championship FIDE are selling all the 64 squares to companies; Instead 1.e2-e4 in live games we will see 1. Heinz Beans - Kelloggs Cornflakes. Castle K-side will be....wait for it......G0-0GLE.

Thanks cgc!

Jan-16-24  technical draw: I came in on move 69 and saw this ending. I must be at grandmaster level by now. (probably not)

It seems to work quite well. If black would have played 67...Rb6 (to avoid Ra6), then 68.Rxg7 Kxg7 69.Kxe5 Rb5+ 70.Kf4 Kf6 71.e4 Rg5 72.Be8 Ra5 73.h6 Rc5 (73...Ra8 74.e5+ Ke7 75.Bg6) 74.h7 Kg7 75.Bg6 Rc8 76.Bf5 looks like an easy win for white. The Rook cannot eliminate both connected Passers here.

and thinking, "yeah, the bishop looks good, but so what, it's not like White can possibly win from here..."

That sounds like a mad, mad, mad, mad, mad analogy! A classic movie.
