 | | HeMateMe: The "Yerminator", 3 times champion of the USA. |
Mar-16-10 | | rapidcitychess: <mutawatilli> I cannot tell you his style, but I can tell you his aura. This guy seems to look at you and crumble you. He is one of those guys that even if he was rated 900, he could beat you by looking at you. Once he talks to you, you think "He is so cool...", like some kind of anime hero. (If you watch prince of tennis he is Tezuka;)) If he says you played this game well, you think you are on top of the world. When tells you "do better on this part" you feel like begging him saying "Have mercy O powerful teacher! Have mercy upon your student!" He seems to envelope in his power and cunning. |

Apr-11-10 | | wordfunph: i forgot where i lifted this bit of information..
GM Alex Yermolinsky learned to play chess at the age of nine, at the Young Pioneer's Palace in Leningrad (Young Pioneers was an organization in the Soviet Union for kids). "I would go there three or four times a week. It was a long ride for me. I had to take the bus or the subway and Mom would worry that something might happen to me in the city." GM Alex Yermolinsky happy birthday GM Yermolinsky! |

Nov-05-10 | | Xeroxx: Love his sexy russian accent. |
Dec-31-11
 | | ganso: Yermo was once asked who was the greatest chess talent who ever lived. He answered that he couldn't make up his mind between Fritz and Deep Junior. |
Apr-11-12 | | brankat: Happy Birthday GM Yermolinsky! |
Apr-11-12 | | wordfunph: <1995 World Open Press Conference: GM Alex Yermolinsky made a stir when he said that when he woke up one morning, when he was 7-year-old, he suddenly knew how to move chess pieces. He added that he forgot who really taught him chess.> Happy Birthday "The Yerminator"! |
Apr-20-12 | | zooter: Has a great show on ICC -- "Every Russian Schoolboy knows" |
Jul-06-12 | | Kinghunt: <zooter> Agreed. His show is my favorite of all the ICC shows. It's well worth purchasing an ICC membership just to be able to watch them all. |

Oct-18-12
 | | ketchuplover: Kudos to herr "Yermo" on his upcoming induction into the US chess hall of fame! |
Dec-10-12 | | Wyatt Gwyon: Yermo just won the Western Idaho Open, beating out a deep field of weekend-swiss patzers. Congrats. http://www.nwchess.com/blog/2012/12... |
Dec-12-12 | | Wyatt Gwyon: Here are the games if anyone is interested in watching a 2541 former US champion take out a sub-1700 club player. http://www.idahochessassociation.or... |
Dec-13-12 | | Jim Bartle: Should give him confidence to play in the All-Idaho championship. |
Dec-13-12 | | Shams: <Wyatt> FM Raptis from Portland and NM Sinanan from Seattle are not too shabby. The latter last week won a crucial last-round game as White to secure the USCL 2012 Championship for Seattle. (Flying Varuzhan Akobian in for Board 1 didn't hurt either.) |
Apr-11-13 | | hedgeh0g: Happy birthday to a great player, teacher and student of the game! |
Jan-11-14 | | MarkFinan: Well to say this guy nearly hit the 2700 mark and has beaten Kasparov, this game of his is puzzling. The first 12-13 moves are all book, the next are easy enough to work out in 5 mins, the engine has him +1.50 up and he lost! In a middle game! And I find it highly unlikely having gone through the game he lost on time. Strange.. Yermolinsky vs G Zaichik, 1993 |
Apr-07-14 | | Chessinfinite: Nice job on the ICC commentary by GM Alex. Y.
Too bad Anand does not agree with him on most occasions and Yermolinksy is made to be a fool :) - like this time on Candidates 2014. Nice try Sweere, hiding your feelings about an old legend !.. Maybe next time it would help to show some respect to Anand's chances :) *just kidding*.. enjoy watching your shows.. |

Apr-07-14 | | RedShield: < could anyone describe yermolinsky's style of playing to me?> Grinder. |

 | | WannaBe: <Biographers>!!
GM Yermo moved to South Dakota a number of years ago, (3 or 4)... Guess he got tired of the nice weather in Cali. He was inducted into US Chess Hall of Fame in 2012.

May-23-15 | | TheFocus: <You can talk a lot about chess being an intellectual contest, but it's a sport with all its physical and mental demands. Otherwise, why do you think these days 20-year-old men are generally better in chess than 40-year-olds? Is this the intellect?> - Alex Yermolinsky. |

Feb-21-16
 | | offramp: Known to his friends as The Yerm or The Big Yerm or El Yermo or The Yermmeister or The Big Yermowsky or The Yermovitch or The Great Yermino or Yerm the Sherm or The Lair of the White Yerm or The Yerminator or Yermorama or The Great Yermheimer or The Yermster or Arnold Yermenegger or El Grand Yermbino or The Yermatollah but never simply as Alex. |

Apr-11-16 | | TheFocus: Happy birthday, Alex Yermolinsky. |
