JOHN BECKNER
(born Sep-20-1878, died Oct-19-1944, 66 years old) United States of America

[what is this?]

John Taliaferro "Toliver" Beckner, born Winchester, KY USA; died St. Petersburg, FL USA.

The son of Judge William M. Beckner and Elizabeth "Betsy" Taliaferro Beckner, and was born in Winchester, Ky., September 20, 1878. He attended the public school and after having passed through the different grades with credit, entered Kentucky Wesleyan College where he was distinguished for his interest and ability in mathematics. (1)(2)

Toliver Beckner, of Winchester, was in town yesterday for another game of chess with his friend Showalter. These games between Beckner and Showalter create a great deal of interest at the Elks Club about once a week. "Toliver" is the way it is pronounced, but not the way it is spelled. Mr. B. is not only a chess player of great anagosity (sic), but a strict vegetarian. He doesn't eat meat of any kind, not even chicken. (3)
