Nov-21-21  ndg2: His current rating of 1739 (Nov 2021) does in no way reflect his real playing strength. Must be closer to 2150 or something. In any way, he's playing in the Scottish national team :-)

Sally Simpson: I never knew you a Freddy page.
His date of birth is 16/08/10 and his full name is Frederick Walhausen Gordon.

Freddy is one is one my Tiger Cubs - (an Edinburgh junior team who play in the adult league but their games start much earlier.)

I warned the world this lad was on his coming back in 2019 when he had just turned 9. I did not want to name him as I did not want to single him out from the other cubs.

I was asked to do a piece on him for CHESS May 2021. I was wee bit unsure about thrusting him into right into limelight but his parents agreed and Freddy jumped for joy at the idea.

It's been a pure joy watching from when he I first saw him as a chess crazy 7 year old. And I am taking no credit for where he is - the team coach Andrew Green should get that. (he has the patience to show them endings and alike.)

I go over the games with the team after the match and was impressed how much wee Freddy saw but not only that, his intuition. He was putting his pieces on the right squares without fully knowing the reason why, 'it just felt right.' (you cannot teach that.)

The team plays the 3rd division so he was only beating low rated players hence his OTB grade was right out sinc to what he was doing at the board.

perfidious: Since the post by <ndg2>, Freddy has added 200 points to his classical FIDE rating and one rather suspects further advances are to come.
Jan-02-23  ET3 Hefley: At the Hastings Masters he has taken down a 2200 and a 2400. Impressive stuff from the youngster
