GrahamClayton: "Kevin Schmuggerow started playing chess in middle school and continued playing into high school. Kevin went on to become the only player in the state of Illinois to win two consecutive state championships in 1979 and 1980. As team captain, Kevin led his team to a second place finish in 1979 and then the team championship in 1980. Kevin received scholarships as a result of his accomplishments which he used to attend Northern Illinois University where he received a BS in Industrial Engineering. Kevin started offering chess lessons in college to professors and other students. Kevin’s passion for the game of chess continued after college and he received his National Master’s Certification through the United States Chess Federation.

Kevin is also currently ranked within the World Chess Federation (FIDE) as one of the top 900 players within the United States. Kevin is happily married to his wife Darla and together they have raised two children; Tyler and Todd."
