Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-15-06  Caissanist: According to Gennady Sosonko, Ruban was a very strong player who won championships in many different cities. Many of those cities were in Siberia, unfortunately. The USSR was not a good place to be openly homosexual.
May-29-07  CaptainEvans: This chap was a tremendously underated player but is virtually unheard of in the West as he was never allowed to leave the Soviet Union. The communists authorities charged him with the disconcertingly vague charge of "hooliganism" which was later increased to "hooliganism with extreme cynicism".

Benzol: Sosonko also says that the official date of his death was 17th November 1997 but that this was incorrect. Anybody know anything more about his life or death?
Jun-08-08  whiteshark: Here is a photo of Evgeny Ruban with (Генрих Чепук айтис ?) http://e3e5.com/upload/articles/ima...
Apr-27-15  zanzibar: He was slated to play the <URS Cup (1970)>, listed as representing the Leningrad Federation.

Jun-19-17  Straclonoor: <The communists authorities charged him> He was charged by regular district court.
According to Sosonko, Ruban was charged three times - 4 years (hooliganism), 2 years (same charge) and exile in Chita, Kostroma & Volkovyssk.
