Kibitzer's Corner
May-09-18  sotto voce meo: I believe a 100 difference in FIDE rating should count for something.

perfidious: In a 1977 interview, Jack Peters expressed the view that at master level, 20 points' difference was significant.
May-09-18  paavoh: <... at master level, 20 points' difference was significant.> Another piece of evidence to support the concept of rating inflation since those days.

alexmagnus: A 20 points difference is a 20 points difference, at any level.

And what on Earth does it have to do with inflation?

May-09-18  morfishine: While per Jack Peters a 20 point difference in rating is "significant", the problem here is the general term "significant"

Since a 20 point difference in rating between two masters can disappear very quickly [ie: 1 tournament], I'm not convinced of the significance of the term "significant" mentioned by Mr. Peters

In fact, a 20 point difference seems rather insignificant
