Jan-16-07  stefan1967: Topaaaaaaaa!!!
Jan-16-07  cannibal: Shirov resigned. Not exactly a good start for him (though he very strong opponents in the first rounds).
Jan-16-07  zluria: Shirov resigns.
Jan-16-07  Pounamu Knight: Topa wins!
Jan-16-07  acirce: Kramnik is playing to utilize the fact that the c1-knight has nowhere to go, but 29..Rb8 30.Bxd8 Rxd8 31.Ra1 Rd1+ 32.Kg2 and I don't know how he is supposed to make progress.

Jan-16-07  Ashram64: 1-0 for topa, couldnt save the one piece
shirov was ******
Jan-16-07  sitzkrieg: Kramnik has Ra1!?
Jan-16-07  sitzkrieg: <Su> im leaving now but engine gives already more of an advantage; +0.87
Jan-16-07  zluria: How could Navara lose a piece here? It's true that he's a little tied up at the moment, but the c1 knight is solidly defended.
Jan-16-07  Pounamu Knight: Tho Kramnik looks in time trouble, he also looks winning 2 me...
Jan-16-07  stefan1967: Notkin sais:Topalov-this is nowerdays' Kasparov! (about 39.Kh2)
Jan-16-07  virginmind: zluria, cannibal: yea, bad calculus of mine, sorry, just deleted that
Jan-16-07  Gnappo: well done by Topa. When I saw 14.d5 I thought he's crazy. Sure he was brave...Maybe Shirov could have avoid 22....Bxd5 with 22....Rd8, but the situation would have been very sharp even in this case.

Amazing the way Topalov brought Shirov to play f6, then e5 and then after Topa's f4(!) -and the change- the attack on f6 pawn was decisive

Jan-16-07  cannibal: <virginmind>
Yep, saw that and already deleted mine :-)
Jan-16-07  Pounamu Knight: "Notkin sais:Topalov-this is nowerdays' Kasparov"

Big call! Dunno if even Topalov would like that call...

Jan-16-07  TylerD: Sjirov 0,5/4... Cannbibal pointed out that he has faced strong opponents... well, yes, but he used to BE (one of)those "strong opponents"... His win last year in the Karpov tournament (Poigovsky or something similar) seem more and more like a one time happening - a short comeback in the winner s circle... He is all gone as far as supertournaments are concerned. I d love to be wrong, but I think that, as far as results goes, beauty of play and occasional masterpieces aside, S is an has-been. I ve been hesitating to use words such as these about Sjirov, even though other kibitzers have been doing it for a long time... But 0,5/4 in Corus... well... It is just too bad for me to keep hoping...

Maybe he can still do well in matches though, who knows?

Jan-16-07  virginmind: actually i was referring only to navara's Rd1+
Jan-16-07  Caloy: They should have invited Kamsky, I'm sure he would perform much better than some of the players here.
Jan-16-07  cannibal: So Karjakin is this year's drawmaster so far. A little odd, cause his games were not really the most "drawish" ones.
Jan-16-07  suenteus po 147: Just got here. Who was it who didn't believe me that Carlsen-Anand would be a short draw and Topalov-Shirov would be long and exciting? ;)
Jan-16-07  positionalgenius: svidler and ponomariov drew.
Jan-16-07  Lt. Col. Majid: Shiroz can join the seniors tour now.
Jan-16-07  gus inn: a topplayer in the german bundesliga told me that in his opinion Shirov is too tied up with women from former relations.Too much obligation(s)- not enough power for topchess.
Jan-16-07  s4life: <Caloy: They should have invited Kamsky, I'm sure he would perform much better than some of the players here.>

Definitely!
