Mar-08-07  Caissanist: It seems that Emilio Cordova has run away from home, and is now living in Sao Paolo. He has apparently done this so that he can be with his girlfriend, a woman almost twice his age. Needless to say, he has received a lot more press coverage for this than for anything he has ever done at the chessboard:

Mar-13-07  Inf: so is he a GM now for sure?? cuz i was watching news last nite and HE said that he wanted to be a GM before his birthday. im a lil confused. but still a great talent on the rise...!!

WannaBe: <Inf> Still an IM. http://www.fide.com/ratings/card.ph...
Mar-13-07  Caissanist: That was one of the reasons he had given for wanting to stay in Sao Paolo, to get his last GM norm. He has two already but still needs to get a third; he also needs to increase his rating to 2500.
Mar-13-07  s4life: Congrats to Emilio. He's a talent for sure. I've been following him since his second game in the last olympics in which he totally destroyed Smirin.
Mar-15-07  yoozum: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/st...

Wow.

Mar-15-07  s4life: That's a funny-written article. I do hope Emilio don't take the fastline in life though and instead he dedicates himself to improve his skills... living in South america, I am sure he will have many chances for "that" ahead in his life.
Mar-16-07  elLocoEvans: Wow again, did he really defeated Smirin? what a personage, already at 15. Like a Balzac or Stendhal character, explosive and talented.
Mar-20-07  s4life: Here is the game:
E Cordova vs Smirin, 2006

Mar-25-07  Manic: Hmmm, I believe that Cordova was found by police when his father got worried or something like that, and now that he has been forced to return to Peru, it is unlikely he will get his 3rd GM norm for quite a while.
Mar-27-07  s4life: He already got the third GM norm, that's out of discussion. Now he only needs to pass 2500 ELO...
Apr-10-07  Inf: <s4life: He already got the third GM norm, that's out of discussion. Now he only needs to pass 2500 ELO...>

he did!! so i guess hes a GM permanent now!! and at 15 years of age is a great start! hope he gets down to study the game and follow fellow player Granda who by the way is on his way out of chess at 37 years old. great news!

Apr-18-07  Inf: <CC.com> maybe you guys can put up a lil bio or info about this player?? :D thx in advance...
Apr-19-07  Caissanist: <Inf> When did he pass 2500? Do you know the tournament? Normally I would check on the FIDE website for this, but it looks like Peru has fallen behind on its dues--all Peruvian players are currently listed as unrated.
Apr-23-07  Caissanist: The ratings for Peruvian players are back on the FIDE website. Cordova is listed at 2507, but still only an IM.
May-07-07  Inf: <but still only an IM.> i wonder why?? i thought he got his 3rd GM norm to be a permanent one now. but still i think this fella has a great future if he studies chess non-stop, to be 15 years old and have a 2500+ rating these days is quite good!
Nov-13-07  SickedChess: Emilio has 2 GM norm, seems that he need to wait to 2008 for a new try for the last GM norm.
Nov-13-07  Inf: But i thought he had it already! i read it somewhere that finally got the 3rd norm...
Nov-15-07  SickedChess: The true is that his "GM norm" that he got in Copa de la Legislatura 2006 was not validated because he only played against Argentina and Uruguay chessplayers, Acording to FIDE rules he need to play against three different flags in the same tournament to get his GM norm
Nov-15-07  SickedChess: These rules are for a GM norm in open tournaments
Feb-01-08  ruelas007: i don´t know if anyone knows but Emili got the final gm norm in December 2007 in the Carlos Torre In Memoriam, btw congrats!
Feb-01-08  Inf: Great news!! so he <finally> got it for sure??
