Feb-26-06 | | DeepBlade: Where is Katherina Lahno? I cant believe I missed her. |
Feb-26-06 | | John Abraham: Lahno is a little bit above Illyumzhinov's head |
Feb-26-06 | | Raskolnikov: Not to forget are Nadezhda (& Tatiana) Kosintzeva, Maia Chiburdanidze, Kovalevskaya, Zhukova (<Karpova>: do you mean Zhukova with <Zuhokova>), Nana Dzagnidze, Ketino Kachiani-Gersinska, Victoria Cmilyte and so on. |
Feb-26-06 | | Karpova: <Raskolnikov> yes, i meant Zhukova
the girl next to Lahno could be Anna Hahn, couldn't she? |
Feb-26-06 | | Karpova: i think that Svetlana Matveeva can also be seen on the photo (right side, directly below the guy with the moustache) |
Mar-06-06 | | schnarre: <DeepBlade> Thanks for the links! |
Mar-06-06 | | EmperorAtahualpa: <http://www.kosteniuk.com/en/downloa... > <DeepBlade> You forgot to mention the biggest sissy amongst all the ladies: Kirsan Ilyumzhinov! :D |
Mar-08-06 | | percyblakeney: Just a couple of days left until the Women's World Championship starts, Kosteniuk is probably the favourite after her recent results. In the first round she plays Natalia Khoudgarian. Most first round matches are rather uneven, but there are some interesting games like Skripchenko-Houska, Zhukova-Yang Shen and Pähtz-Zhaoqin Peng. |
Mar-09-06 | | EmperorAtahualpa: <percyblakeney> When do the Women's World Championships start? I also can't find any website covering the event, do you know one? And you mention that Kosteniuk is probably favorite. Does that mean that Humpy Konery and Pia Cramling are not participating? |
Mar-09-06 | | percyblakeney: <EmperorAtahualpa> It would of course be nice if the World Championship had a website, but this is the only thing I've found this far: http://fide.com/news.asp?id=951
It supposedly begins tomorrow, probably only with ceremonies and stuff. Humpy Koneru and Pia Cramling are playing but I personally think Kosteniuk is better, especially after her plus score in Aeroflot Open against very strong opposition. |
Mar-09-06 | | percyblakeney: My prediction for the last eight would look something like this: 1. Alexandra Kosteniuk
2. Humpy Koneru
3. Tatiana Kosintseva
4. Maya Chiburdanidze
5. Nadezhda Kosintseva
6. Kateryna Lahno
7. Antoaneta Stefanova
8. Pia Cramling |
Mar-09-06 | | EmperorAtahualpa: <percyblakeney> Here's one more link: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...
Indeed, after some more searching, I still cannot find an official website! That means that a tournament with a 450,000 US$ prize fund does not have any website! What a disgrace.... Thanks a lot Kirsan and FIDE! |
Mar-10-06 | | percyblakeney: There's a website now:

Mar-12-06
 | | BishopBerkeley: Well, this photo is certainly different!
http://www.kosteniuk.com/albums/pwh... I can safely say that never in my life have I played Chess against a woman wearing long black gloves! (: ♗ Bishop Berkeley ♗ :)

Mar-12-06
 | | BishopBerkeley: I must confess, I usually find these attempts to glamourize women Chessplayers a bit silly! There are many, many wonderful photos of women Chessplayers, but the best of them are nearly always natural "unposed" photos, in my opinion. I think the same is true for all Chessplayers, really. More than the general population, Chessplayers tend to be rather bookish, inward-gazing people, and I think that they often feel a bit awkward in the "extroverted" act of posing for photos. (Though Ms. Kosteniuk seems decidedly less averse to this than most excellent players!) (: ♗ Bishop Berkeley ♗ :)
Mar-12-06 | | schnarre: <BishopBerkeley> To each their own in pictures, eh!? |
Mar-13-06 | | Chesschatology: Hell why not- it's harmless enough, just about titillating and completely ridiculous. Thomas Crown en seul if you like. |
Mar-13-06
 | | BishopBerkeley: <schnarre> & <Chesschatology> I certainly have nothing against such pictures, provided no one is coerced, I just think they often wind up looking awkward. The Chessplayers often have an expression that seems to say my-manager-told-me-I-should-do-this-but-I'd-really-rat-
her-be-back-at-the-Chessboard :)
(: ♗ Bishop Berkeley ♗ :)

Mar-13-06 | | Jim Bartle: In another game, I think Maria Sharapova looks more attractive when playing tennis than in the artificial swimsuit photos in Sports Illustrated. |
Mar-13-06 | | Knight13: 2516... Impressive. Last time I saw she was a 2400 something. ;) |
Mar-13-06 | | BlueMooner: I like the picture; why not? If she's pretty which she is & she wants to try & glamourise herself and potentially the game of chess what harm can it do? To the philistine chess is boring & dull so why not let pretty young things like Alexandra Kosteniuk add a bit of uumph to the game. Although, I imagine in 10-15 years time she may look back at the picture & cringe a little. |
Mar-13-06 | | Chesschatology: <BlueMooner>
I agree- we should lighten up a bit round here! |
Mar-13-06
 | | BishopBerkeley: But I'm a Bishop! It's my job to be uptight and prudish! Harumph, I say!
(: ♗ Bishop Berkeley ♗ :)

After Humpy Koneru, Nadezhda Kosintseva, Kateryna Lahno, Antoaneta Stefanova, Pia Cramling are out I am about to say that Kosteniuk & Chiburdanidze have the best chances to win the WC. |
