CHESSGAMES - BEER

[what is this?]

Beer is believed to be over 10,000 years old. Although no one knows its exact origins, some agricultural historians believe that the first beer may have been produced accidentally when a stash of grain was soaked by rain and then warmed by the sun. If this mixture were spontaneously fermented by wild, airborne yeast—which thrives in just these warm, moist conditions—beer would have been produced (Encarta).

Fermented beverages have been preferred over water throughout the ages: they are safer, provide psychotropic effects, and are more nutritious. Some have even said alcohol was the primary agent for the development of Western civilization, since more healthy individuals (even if inebriated much of the time) lived longer and had greater reproductive success. Dec-25-04  Avion: <Dave murray>
FICS???

Can you explain plz?

Dec-25-04  refutor: <FICS> http://www.freechess.org
Dec-25-04  iron maiden: In line with the trend, I'm celebrating kibitz #3000 here. Merry Christmas, everybody.
Dec-25-04  Dave Murray: <Avion>
FICS (Free Internet Chess Server)
http://www.freechess.org

Two things;
1.You can't register with most of free e-mail accounts (like; hotmail, yahoo).

2. The interface is pretty confusing, well for me it was.

Dec-25-04  Knight13: <ughaibu: Knight13: dont you do chocolate?> The caffein keeped me awake doing the day and it helped me a lot. Yes, I do chocolate.
Dec-25-04  yoozum: happy "tricentennial" <iron maiden>.

so, what did everyone get for christmas? i got 3 sweaters (1 of which i don't really like), 1 pair of pants, "Starsky and Hutch" from my sister, a comb for my long "punk" hair, a can of ginger ale and "How to play the Queen's Gambit", which hasn't arrived yet, and probably won't for a few days.

since i was confined to the house due to celebrations, i spent the entire day at the table drinking Anjou wine and eating salad (so good!). oh, and listening to pink floyd, van halen, and red hot chili peppers.

<The caffein keeped me awake doing the day and it helped me a lot.>

I just hope you aren't developing a caffeine addiction. You may want to check

http://faculty.washington.edu/chudl...

to see if you suffer from any of the symptoms.

<Yes, I do chocolate.>

The first step to dealing with your addiction is admitting you have a problem.

Dec-25-04  Dave Murray: <yoozum> Some people are so lucky!

I forgot that all the stores will be closed and didn't have any food, I didn't have any cat food either, so my cats kept on bothering me all day.

Also all my friends are with their families, so nobody could hang out this weekend, so I stayed at home by myself (with nothing good eat!) :(.

If it wouldn't be for chessgames.com I would've died of boredom!

Dec-25-04  iron maiden: I got a digital chess clock (which actually won't arrive till Monday) and a new magnetic set, since I'd lost some of the pieces to my old one. My older brother gave me Searching for Bobby Fischer on DVD, and I also got a bit of NASCAR apparel, some clothes, a couple of paperback novels and a car. It was a good Christmas.
Dec-25-04  InfinityCircuit: You got a car !! (Brilliant Move...lol) And you listed it after the new chess set ?! (dubious). Interesting list...I finally got MCO-14
Dec-25-04  Backward Development: nice haul im!
i got 'mastering the najdorf', a watch, and some money. I'll probably get a pocketbook magnetic set and a digital clock soon with my money.
Dec-25-04  Backward Development: infinity:
i still haven't 'bought' MCO-14, but i've probably checked it out from the library close to a dozen times. you play e4 and prefer more drawish games? that's unusual. what do you play as black? caro-kann? Petrov's?
Dec-26-04  yoozum: <Dave Murray>, aww man, i'm sorry. make sure to feed those cats.

i only have 1 cat, but it seems like there's 3 cats in the house because he is very active and likes to destroy things at night. actually, i think he's up to no good in the next room, let me check...

OMG, my cat just took a toilet paper roll and stretched it across several rooms making a huge mess. best ignore it and wait for the parents to handle it in the morning and get a good laugh out of it (i kid you not, this actually did happen conveniently while i was writing this)

<IM>, what kind of chess clock? i bought a not-so-great one off of ebay for 30 bucks, but it turned out to be pretty good, despite it being of the "Chess Clock" brand of chess clocks.

i felt really guilty accepting my presents knowing that i still have to reimburse my parents the 260 dollars it cost to repair my car. amazingly, despite my car nearly flipping, all the damage that it suffered was a flat. the majority of the expenses go to Sam's Towing. all i have to say is that 1992 was a good year for volvos.

Dec-26-04  iron maiden: <yoozum> Not sure what kind; all my parents told me was that it's digital. My cats were a lot of trouble today, too; one of them brought a decapitated mouse to the door in the middle of Christmas dinner. No joke.
Dec-26-04  yoozum: lol, i see you had a very bloody christmas. the cat i had that disappeared last year was also quite bad. he's occasionally bring in live squirrels/mice into the house, rip up mice in the bathroom, leaving the walls red with blood. my favorite occurence has to be when he brought in a chipmunk, ripped it in half, and put the body in one of my dad's slippers and the tail in the other. i'm serious.
Dec-26-04  yoozum: oh, and my dog knocked the christmas roast on the floor. my mom had to rinse it with water and quickly re-fry it. but that's definitely not as bad as having your cat slaughter something on the holiest christian day of the year, lol.

tpstar: <Dave Murray> Next time you're stuck, go to a gas station. They're bound to be open and have some cat food (albeit twice as expensive) or else tuna fish to tide them over. Your cats are precious.

<Fellas> I'm glad everyone had a great Christmas. As you're enjoying your gifts, please take a minute to count all the wonderful blessings in your life = family, friends, pets, health, shelter, food, good times, happiness, chess. And if you're Christian, consider the true meaning of the holiday also. Best wishes for 2005!

Dec-26-04  Dave Murray: I remember one of my cats brought a rabbit on our front porch and I didn't see it and stepped on it and all his intestines came out, that was nasty.
Dec-26-04  Dave Murray: <tpstar> My local gas station was closed, I am not sure about all of them though. For some reason I though they were all closed.
Dec-26-04  yoozum: <DaveMurray>, LOL, and i thought stepping on my cat's vomit in the dark was bad!

christmas doesn't hold much of a meaning for me religiously, but it's nice to spend it with family and friends.

NOTE: i am a full-blown atheist who celebrates christmas. i also wear a sterling silver pentagram from Dublin around my neck, which makes me a Satanic Atheist. (contradictory, but cool...)

Dec-26-04  Knight13: <maoam> I use caffein when I need to. I don't misuse it. I sometimes use it. No big deal. I drink coffee. Thanks for the advice, though.
