Dec-26-04 | | yoozum: is that why you're always a bundle of energy, lol? |
Dec-26-04 | | Dave Murray: I just found out that my friend has spent his christmas in the airport because of ice storms or something like that. Don't I feel lucky :). |
Dec-26-04 | | yoozum: same with my friend. he was flying to FL to stay with his mom for christmas and was supposed to return tonight, except i'm guessing that Logan Airport in boston is having quite a lot of difficulties. <Dave>, your friend didn't fly Commair did he? |
Dec-26-04 | | pawn52: <Dave Murray> Probably b/c of all those winter storms in the midwest, unless you live outside the US. |
Dec-26-04 | | Knight13: <is that why you're always a bundle of energy, lol?> No. |
Dec-26-04 | | pawn52: <Knight13> wouldn't suprise me if that was the case. LOL |
Dec-26-04 | | Dave Murray: <yoozum> Delta, I am pretty sure. |
Dec-26-04 | | pawn52: <Dave Murray> If I had left for GA on the 23rd rather than the 22nd, I'd be stuck in Chicago O'hare International Airport on Christmas. Or possibly Sky Harbor International Airport because of cancellations in Chicago. |

 | | ray keene: FELINE TRIBUTE
in my experience of cats they are actually grateful animals and the importation in to the house of dead rabbits mice squirrels etc is not because they are hungry but but because they want to give the people who feed and shelter them a gift. we have a small collection of toy plastic lizards in the spare bathroom left over from when my son used to play with such things. our cats will regularly seize a toy lizard and place it outside our bedroom ready for us to find in the morning. i think when cats do this you have to thank and praise them for being thoughtful. getting angry when you discover half a dead hamster in your slipper is liable to disappoint the cat and frustrate its perception of a gesture which is meant to imply gratitude and loyalty. |
Dec-28-04 | | Dave Murray: I drunk a lot beer last night, I specially like Hefe-Weizen and Irish Stouts types. So...hmm.. well, we got pretty drunk and went to IHOP to get something eat and what do I see there? Two guys are playing chess, thats in 3:00 at night! I thought it was pretty awesome. |
Dec-28-04 | | yoozum: your cats are awesome <ray>; i only wish my late cat did that with toys instead of the real thing. <dave>, have you ever played drunk chess? |
Dec-28-04 | | iron maiden: <Two guys are playing chess, thats in 3:00 at night!> For what it's worth, last New Years' I played in a chess tournament at two in the morning. Needless to say, it wasn't the best chess I ever played. |
Dec-28-04 | | Dave Murray: <yoozum>
Are you asking did I play chess drunk? Yeah, sure I thing most people have. My postional feel is fine, but the tactics are terrible. Or were you asking something else, 'drunk chess' could be some kind off drinking game with chess. I know they exist, but I never played one. <iron maiden> Playing till 2:00 is pretty late, were there problems with organizing? The latest tournament I ever played was probably until 12:30 and that was because pairings for each round took forever. Those guys were clearly casual player, there was no tournament there or anything. |
Dec-28-04 | | iron maiden: <Dave> The tournament STARTED at 2:00 a.m. It was part of a series of activities organized by a local church on New Years'. It was blitz, and about seven people turned up, so we were playing until after three. |
Dec-28-04 | | yoozum: <Dave>, yeah there's shot glass chess and my friend almost bought a shot glass chess set, but didn't because i didn't want to pay for half of it. i still stand by my idea of drunk chess tiebreaks -- who needs rapid/blitz/armageddon anyways? ;-) |
Dec-28-04 | | iron maiden: Drunk chess tiebreaks would be pretty entertaining, but what would they have done for Karjakin-Nakamura? |
Dec-28-04 | | yoozum: what's the drinking age in mexico, 18? they could have "secretly" mixed in an "herbal supplement", if you will, into their drinks. tequila works too. :-)
i guess this is really only an issue in the US, as drinking ages are much more tentative abroad. in the US, i guess you'll have to wait until both players are 21+, or organize US tournaments in other countries; absurd but effective :) |
Dec-28-04 | | Dave Murray: <i still stand by my idea of drunk chess tiebreaks -- who needs rapid/blitz/armageddon anyways? ;-)> In muslim countries alcohol is illigal period (at least in Libia it was) and those guys seem to sponsor a lot of chess events. This might cause a problem. |
Dec-28-04 | | Dave Murray: I have an idea on how to popularize chess, i mean to the level of main stream. You how the big problem is "chess is not fun to watch if you don't understand it". Why don't Kosteniuk and Skripchenko (my two favorites) play a game (or match) of strip chess? Then you might not have any idea on how to play, but still have fun watching it! I think this is a break through! |
Dec-28-04 | | yoozum: <Idiot. >, i don't know who you're refering to, me, <Dave>, or the collective discussion, but i think it's a bit harsh considering Beer is supposed to be the humour/alcohol page. |
Dec-28-04 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: I don't think you have to be so harsh. We all like to indulge in our improbable little fantasies now and then-- |
Dec-28-04 | | yoozum: <And I know I'm technically violating guideline #3, but so be it.> lol, i know a couple of users that blatantly disregarded it in practically every post. one of their names starts with an 'S' and ends with a '69'. i hope i'm not being too subtle... |
Dec-28-04 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: Besides, Howard Stern (a rude radio and late-night television personality, for those outside of the U.S. who may have been fortunate enough not to know of him until now) has probably tried this already. |
Dec-28-04 | | acirce: I removed it, but I still think <Dave Murray>'s stinking sexist post should be removed as well ASAP. I don't usually resort to insults but that was just so far over the line. That and that I'm a little unstable right now. Sorry. |
Dec-28-04 | | iron maiden: I don't know about Stern, but I know chessbase has. ;-) |
