CHESSGAMES - BEER

[what is this?]

Beer is believed to be over 10,000 years old. Although no one knows its exact origins, some agricultural historians believe that the first beer may have been produced accidentally when a stash of grain was soaked by rain and then warmed by the sun. If this mixture were spontaneously fermented by wild, airborne yeast—which thrives in just these warm, moist conditions—beer would have been produced (Encarta).

Fermented beverages have been preferred over water throughout the ages: they are safer, provide psychotropic effects, and are more nutritious. Some have even said alcohol was the primary agent for the development of Western civilization, since more healthy individuals (even if inebriated much of the time) lived longer and had greater reproductive success. Dec-28-04  square dance: ok what did i miss?
Dec-28-04  yoozum: interestingly enough, all of his antics resulted in FCC problems, didn't they? is he off the air now or is he getting a show on XM radio?
Dec-28-04  Gregor Samsa Mendel: <iron maiden>--Really?! Got a link for that? (Not that I'd go over right now and drool, um, just want to see if it's actually happened, to satisfy my curiosity. Yeah, that's it.)
Dec-28-04  square dance: i played strip chess with a girl before. it was when we were both 17. we played that each piece/pawn that you lost would count as one item of clothing. i had to take off my shoes and sox, my opponent was not so lucky. ;-)
Dec-28-04  Gregor Samsa Mendel: Depending on the inclinations of the players, strip chess might lead either to games with lots of quick exchanges, or lenghty wars of manuever where all the pieces remain on the board for 50+ moves. Either way, the quality of the chess would suffer.
Dec-28-04  iron maiden: And by SD's rules, three pawns would be worth MUCH more than a knight.
Dec-28-04  pawn52: <sqaure dance> How far did she have to go?
Dec-28-04  Dave Murray: I can't believe how up-tight people are! Somebody thought I was completly serious!? That was humor, if anything I complementing them.

What I insulted chess for saying its less interesting than watching girls striping!?

I am sure wasn't expecting anything like that <I still think <Dave Murray>'s stinking sexist post should be removed as well ASAP.> This is ridiculous!

Dec-28-04  Dave Murray: If I was gonna play strip chess I would just play many blitz games, each one you lose you remove a piece. I am not sure many girls would do that though, hehe.
Dec-28-04  square dance: <iron maiden> good one! very clever.

<pawn52> well, do to a miscalculation on my part i believe i allowed her to keep her earings on. the rest is up to your imagination.

tpstar: <yoozum> What with all you naughty drunk crazy American chessplayers around, <every> page is the humour/alcohol page!?

<Dave Murray> FYI, as a side event in 1981, Karpov and Korchnoi played a blitz game of Strip Chess but the organizers quickly paid them to keep their clothes ON.

Dec-28-04  DanielBryant: <tpstar> That's hilarious, do you have a link?
Dec-28-04  Dave Murray: <Karpov and Korchnoi played a blitz game of Strip Chess>

Are you serious? I wonder who's idea was that...

<but the organizers quickly paid them to keep their clothes ON.>

I am sure that players I mentioned above wouldn't have that problem. :)

Dec-28-04  yoozum: lol, it would be A LOT worse if they played now. nobody would like to see karpov naked and seeing korchnoi without any clothes on is like walking in on your favorite grandpa in the shower.
Dec-28-04  aw1988: LOL. Good lord, I would NOT like to see that. Thank you organizers.
Dec-28-04  SnipingBishop: HAHA how the hoola did the topic reach to this?!?! lol i have a serious suspician that people also drink while they kibitz ;)

<Dave Murray> said <I have an idea on how to popularize chess> I dont really care if chess does not get so popular that people put it on TV during the "chess season" (ie the entire year). I think that those people like us who gets to know chess are blessed while those who think chess is boring are ignorant and plainly missing out on this important aspect of life.

Dec-28-04  Gregor Samsa Mendel: But there's nothing wrong with trying to make sure that we find enough receptive minds to ensure that the tradition of this wonderful game continues on.
Dec-29-04  iron maiden: The problem with Dave Murray's idea is, of course, that nobody would be actually watching the GAME.
Dec-29-04  yoozum: lol, turns out, i don't even like chess! ;-)
Dec-30-04  DanielBryant: <yoozum> Blasphemy! ;-)
Dec-30-04  pawn52: <yoozum> WHAT!!!!!!!!!
Dec-31-04  mack: Haha, to think I've missed the last three hilarious pages. A lot to reply to and then get insulted:

<shot chess tiebreak playoffs> Brilliant idea yoozum, I reckon Kramnik would have taken Leko any day if it had come down to this as he looks quite hardcore on the quiet whereas Leko is blatantly a complete nonce.

<knight13's various addictions> What's all this "caffein" anyway? Is it some sort of designer drug that's been floating about in Africa?

<ray keene's cats> Come on, cats are rubbish, completely stupid, can't take them for a walk, rip up the curtains, they're complete tossers.

<acirce going mental for no apparent reason> Don't you think you should calm down a bit? Seriously, Murray seems compeltely harmless nad I think you overdo the politcal correctness at times. Have a drink or summat.

<Howard Stern> Is he still off the radio? Stern and the Yank DJs of his ilk are fab, they're among the few people left who actually know how to make good radio, which is something we're desperately lacking these days. He does play chess as well unless I'm not very much mistaken.

<Christmas> Deary me, how come you lot got so much? I got some socks and a gift token more or less. Blimey.

<Strip chess> Surely if they actually made strip chess the standard form of chess, then this would be a sure fire way of avoiding draws - players wouldn't be so keen to swap down into a drawn endgame...

Happy new bollocks to the lot of yer. Except knight13, don't like him very much

Dec-31-04  InfinityCircuit: <Backward Development> I havent checked here in a while...that bio is outdated. I do prefer 1. e4 (partially because most everyone in my club has no clue how to play against 1. d4 and I'm not yet willing to risk running into a novelty.), and as Black use the Sveshnikov Sicilian and Indian Defences. I also like the Advance Caro-Kann and hate the French--I mainly wanted MCO cause I play a lot of correspondence chess. It seems like Beer has been drawing a lot attention lately...I wonder why?
Dec-31-04  yoozum: lol, <mack>.

this is why kramnik would win the shot glass playoff. taking this quote from the kramnik website. something along the lines of... <someone who indulges in a cigarette and is inclined to drink a good glass of red wine?>

so he's a chain smoker and an alcoholic? brilliant! he'll trounce leko due to his extensive practice.

by the way, can you guys teach me how to play chess? ;-)

Dec-31-04  Dave Murray: I am ready for this New Year, I got whole bunch or real good (though expensive) beer at my house, I have this $5 a bottle Belgian beer, but its ok its New Year. Got a goose in the oven (certainly couldn't been a chicken!). My friends wanted me to go over to their place, but I hope they come to mine ;)

Happy New Year Everybody!
