CHESSGAMES - BEER

[what is this?]

Beer is believed to be over 10,000 years old. Although no one knows its exact origins, some agricultural historians believe that the first beer may have been produced accidentally when a stash of grain was soaked by rain and then warmed by the sun. If this mixture were spontaneously fermented by wild, airborne yeast—which thrives in just these warm, moist conditions—beer would have been produced (Encarta).

Fermented beverages have been preferred over water throughout the ages: they are safer, provide psychotropic effects, and are more nutritious. Some have even said alcohol was the primary agent for the development of Western civilization, since more healthy individuals (even if inebriated much of the time) lived longer and had greater reproductive success.   HeMateMe: Adele's food/beer rider, when on tour:

"Elsewhere in her rider, Adele--who was nominated last week for six Grammy awards--requires promoters to provide her with a pack of Marlboro Lights and a disposable lighter, an assortment of chewing gum, and a small plate of “freshly made, individually wrapped sandwiches” that “must NOT contain tomatoes, vinegar, chilli or citrus fruit.”

Following a concert, Adele asks that her tour bus be stocked with a selection of “bite-size” chocolate bars, including Twix, Aero, Milky Way, and Mars. She also wants some organic muesli and six “Cereal bars.”

The singer also requires two bottles of the “very best quality red wine” and 12 bottles of “best quality European lager beer. ie Becks, Stella Artois, Peroni etc.” And if promotion staff had any confusion about her brew needs, Adele adds, “North American beer is NOT acceptable.”

Best ever tour rider--Van Halen demanded a punch bowl of all brown M&Ms at each tour date.

HeMateMe: "There is a joke up in Canada (which makes some fine brews!) - Q - "What's the similarity between American beers and having sex in a canoe?"

A - "They're both f***ing close to water!"

That's pretty harsh.
