CHESSGAMES - BEER

[what is this?]

Beer is believed to be over 10,000 years old. Although no one knows its exact origins, some agricultural historians believe that the first beer may have been produced accidentally when a stash of grain was soaked by rain and then warmed by the sun. If this mixture were spontaneously fermented by wild, airborne yeast—which thrives in just these warm, moist conditions—beer would have been produced (Encarta).

Fermented beverages have been preferred over water throughout the ages: they are safer, provide psychotropic effects, and are more nutritious. Some have even said alcohol was the primary agent for the development of Western civilization, since more healthy individuals (even if inebriated much of the time) lived longer and had greater reproductive success.   tpstar: <OhioChessFan> Thank you kindly. =)

You and I are the only ones who celebrate the Thousands around here. Everybody else just doesn't honor traditions.

This page has the most entertaining material on one thread, also ? but only if you know where to find it. ;>D

Have a Beer after Election Night.

Nov-04-14  TheFocus: <tpstar> I also celebrate the thousands, but I forgot on my 12K post.

WannaBe: Newer members don't know the Tradition of celebrating mile stones on this page.

The older ones tends to spread out the big numbers, I know I do. I don't do 21K, or 22K, but I do 20K and 25K. (What is this, my car's oil change? =))

My next big one is 30K, will be here for sure!!

MULTITHEME White

Dec-24-14  gauer: Dear Santa Claus,

After a few steady holiday nights of a chess marathon, we'd found out that although we're still stocked with plenty of eggnog, we're running out of spiced rum. So please, hurry on down the chimney, and stop by for a few (games and/or mixed eggnog, whichever you decide...) - before you need to run along and replenish all the other stockings! There may even by a couple of Heineken left by then as well...

I promise, the wish list this year isn't that long. After all, you're dropping off that little red vehicle I asked for on the roof tonight, correct?!

Happy holidays to all!

Dec-25-14  gauer: Dear Santa Claus,

Although you didn't leave that motorized flying sleigh on the roof for us, you did manage to sneak in and polish off the leftover cookies and eggnog left out.

Thanks for all the presents, rum included (memo to self: restock eggnog on Boxing Day) - and in the meantime, a toast with a round of Beer to a Happy New Year on this page today and post #500 on every favourite chess-player's analysis and kibitzing site!!

Happy 13th birthday this month as well, and on to many more along the way!!

tpstar: <OhioChessFan> I encourage students to categorize their tactics; the position won't recur but the motif will. Here 15. Bxe5 wins a Pawn (15 ... cxd5 16. Rxd5) due to 15 ... dxe5?? 16. Nf6+ (Discovery) winning the Queen. I figured Black would play 16 ... Qe6, then 17. Bxd6 Re8 18. Re5 (Skewer) traded down and White won. Even after 16 ... Be7/Bc7 White has 17. Bxd6! Bxd6 18. e5 (Pin) winning a second Pawn and trading down to an easy major piece endgame win.
