CHESSGAMES - BEER

[what is this?]

Beer is believed to be over 10,000 years old. Although no one knows its exact origins, some agricultural historians believe that the first beer may have been produced accidentally when a stash of grain was soaked by rain and then warmed by the sun. If this mixture were spontaneously fermented by wild, airborne yeast—which thrives in just these warm, moist conditions—beer would have been produced (Encarta).

Fermented beverages have been preferred over water throughout the ages: they are safer, provide psychotropic effects, and are more nutritious. Some have even said alcohol was the primary agent for the development of Western civilization, since more healthy individuals (even if inebriated much of the time) lived longer and had greater reproductive success. Nov-14-04  Dillinger: thanks <tamar>. Unfortunately none of my beer mugs meet the qualifications for baptism, but I assure you, R Kopf s are very clean.
Nov-14-04  azaris: Just drink straight from T Jug!
Nov-14-04  Knight13: There is a user name "beer." See User Profile: Beer.
Nov-14-04  Appaz: <tamar> As the self-appointed authority on norwegian names: His name is Stein Kristian Bru, meaning "Rock Christian Bridge", the two first being regular first names. Considering his norwegian rating is 1668, he was lucky getting a shot at Movsesian, FIDE rated 2627 at the time.
Nov-14-04  Knight13: Have you guys every thought of living in a new house? If so, you can buy a Newhouse for free! Call now on 1800-house-free to get a new house!
Nov-14-04  aw1988: How did we go from Beer to house?
Nov-14-04  MoonlitKnight: <tamar> In fact, the "rock solid" joke was <acirce>'s. "Stein" means rock in the Scandinavian languages. "Kristian" still means about the same as the English Christian, though, while "Bru" means bridge. In case anyone was wondering... Cheers!

tamar: Not my day. My joke fell flat and I confused <moonlitknight> with <acirce> Dang! Guess I'll need another Large Beer
Nov-14-04  MoonlitKnight: Actually Kristian Bru Stein is one of my main opponents in our club tournament this fall. Small world.

tpstar: <aw1988> Are you saying Beer is on the house?
Nov-15-04  pawn52: <tpstar> How come you don't have a bio?
Nov-15-04  aw1988: Sure, Beer is on the house, in my dreams. :)
Nov-16-04  mack: This afternoon's guest ale: Fuller's ESB (5.9% ABV), twice voted world champion bitter - smooth, full bodied and bursting with flavour, with marmalade fruitiness throughout.
Nov-17-04  Knight13: Here's a Good Thing: We Are All Allies!

BishopBerkeley: For the computer programming enthusiasts in our midst (or any "nerddrunks" who may be tuned in!), I recommend the site

http://www.99-bottles-of-beer.net/

This site presents short computer programs in 621 different programming languages (at last count) that will generate the text output to the campfire song "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall"!

A very nicely done site!

(: ♗B :)

BishopBerkeley: Was the Carter in the game above Billy Carter, creator of "Billy Beer" and former First Brother of the U.S.A.?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_...

Billy, on his fermented creation: "It's the best beer I've ever tasted. And I've tasted a lot."

(: ♗B :)

P.S. I seem to recall that shortly after the election of Jimmy Carter as 39th President of the United States, a reporter said to his mother, "Ms. Lillian, you must be so proud of your son!" To which she replied, "Which one?" :)

Nov-22-04  pawn52: <Dillinger: oh, and apple juice for <acirce> and <iron maiden>>

LOL!!!!!!!!!

I haven't laughed that hard since my brother ran into the light pole while watching a girl loose her skirt in Atlanta.

Nov-23-04  aw1988: Yes, loose women have the tendancy to do that.
Nov-27-04  Knight13: Did you guys know that there's Alcohol in beer that damages your brain? If so, quit before you became an alcoholic! If you are a alcoholic and want to stop, call now on 1-800-9876 for free information about how to stop beening an alcoholic!
Nov-27-04  aw1988: No amount of alcohol could make my chess playing abilities even worse than they already are. :(

YOu're underage here, better delete your posts. =D
Nov-28-04  yoozum: alcohol boosts my creativity in chess. sometimes, i'll play my friends while they're sober and i'll either win or draw (i haven't lost yet while drunk). surprisingly, when we all play sober, the games always end up being 50/50, decisive in either direction.
