Aug-27-11  wordfunph: <CG Bookie> Wang Hao unable to play in World Cup :(

Aug-28-11  jerman88: If players have the same family name, how do we know which player is going to play? Only family are stated. For example, Polgar or Ding.

OhioChessFan: I'm sure glad I put 10 bucks on Riazantsev at 20-1. Odds are now 2.7-1 so I could win a grand total of 30 cents or something. I guess games without at least 5000 on them aren't worth betting.
Sep-04-11  pulsar: I really wanted to put my chessbucks on Chucky but <Sutonsky> who is a real dark horse looks an excellent bet. Who is this Sutonsky?
Sep-04-11  wordfunph: <pulsar>

Emil <Sutovsky> :)

Sep-06-11  wordfunph: uhh ohhh :(

Svidler leads 1-0

Kamsky $6,161
Svidler $4,175

Dominguez over Judith..

Polgar $5,931
Dominguez $3,572

thrilling games tomorrow yayyy!

Sep-13-11  moulicules: What month will start the Fall leg bookie comp.? Thanks!

Chessgames Bookie: The summer led will end with wagering on the World Cup. The fall leg will start a bit early with bets on the Bilbao tournament. Good luck to all!
Sep-14-11  dakgootje: Ugh, fair chance I'm going to flip/flop.

To take chances, or to wait and let faith take its course? Is it nobler in a mind to flip the coin, or to wait for the other flips?

I want to be, but how should I be?!

Questions, questions.

Sep-14-11  wordfunph: <dakgootje> i suggest you take chances, players tailing you will certainly dispense heavy bets in the homestretch.

good luck mate..

Sep-14-11  AnimusEtOblivio: <dakgootje>
There is a good chance that several betters will surpass you on tomorrow's leader board (I know I will be moving up the ranks). At this point, taking first place isn't quite realistic, so at this point you want to look to cushion yourself, rather than to aim too high. Best of luck man.

Chessgames Bookie: The wording on World Cup: Perfecta was slightly modified for clarity.
Sep-15-11  dakgootje: <word>&<AEO>

Thanks gentlemen :)

I know first place is not realistic, or perhaps even possible. My contemplation was more how to get best try to get just within the top-10.

Todays leaderboard is not out yet, but I gained about 300, as opposed to yesterday, so I suppose I might become 11th. However, that would not be enough obviously. And even if I managed 10th, then I will probably be overtaken on the last day.

So I came to the same conclusion - I have to take chances either way. Figured the side I liked best percentage wise - so it comes down to waiting now ;)

Sep-15-11  Xenon Oxide: Hey <Chessbookie>, I have a question:

Will there be bets on individual games?

Sep-15-11

Chessgames Bookie: <Will there be bets on individual games?> Yes, starting with tomorrow's game World Cup Finals: Game 1: Grischuk-Svidler. I went ahead and put up bets for the other 3 games as well.

If one player scores three wins in a row I believe the 4th game would be annulled, in which case all 4th game bets returned.

We may add other quirky proposition bets as time goes on, starting with the obvious question World Cup Finals: Will there be Grischuk-Svidler tiebreaks?.

Good luck!

Sep-18-11  technical draw: Darn, the loanshark won't lend me anymore money. Now I have to sit out the next round. I feel withdrawal symptoms coming on.
Sep-18-11  dakgootje: Unless we get tie-breaks, it is the last round of the leg either way - so it shouldn't make much of a difference ;)

After all, there aren't huge 20-to-1 pick-3's currently

Sep-19-11  dakgootje: As the World Cup is over - can we get a early end-of-leg standings update?

I'm fairly curious whether I did, or did not, limp into the top-10 :)

Sep-19-11  wordfunph: guys, let's lay cards..

wordfunph = $4,630

Sep-19-11  technical draw: Ha!, TD=-30.

I bet against Ivanchuk. Dumb, dumb, dumb.....

Sep-19-11  dakgootje: I've got 3863
Sep-19-11  Ragh: 3,701 chessbucks.

But I don't think that was enough for top-10

Sep-19-11  dakgootje: Well, if you are in, I'll be in..

I hope you make it Ragh!
