Sep-26-14  scout118: dakgootje: <<scout> Certainly, being guaranteed 10k is a great advantage of finishing top-10 in a previous championship leg. Gives more freedom to bet, or for that matter to sit out a leg when you don't feel like it.>

In any event, congrats! You certainly outplayed Central; for a while there it was head to head.

Sep-26-14  wordfunph: cheers to Summer 2014 ChessBookie Champion <dakkie>!

my bow and gracias to Bookie <Switch> and <chessgames.com> who made the contest the busiest of all time and provided tons of new betting flavors!

Sep-27-14  dakgootje: Thanks everyone :)

<I just knew that surprisingly correct spelling (dakgootje) wouldn't last... ;p>

Whahaha I knoww! I was initially surprised as well - but I suspected a copy-paste job ;D

<You certainly outplayed Central; for a while there it was head to head.>

Yap, it was very close. It appears that <CF> played a bit too risky, which didn't work out. But I'd expect this won't be the last time we see him on the leader board ;)

Sep-27-14  technical draw: TD's sour grapes:

I won $60 real dollars in the local lottery. So there!

eternaloptimist: <dak> Congrats on winning this leg of bookie! U really pulled away from the pack at the end of the leg. Great job!
Sep-28-14  dakgootje: Thanks :)

The last week some people were trying to force the issue, so there was a lot of value - e.g. on the draws. Makes making a profit easier ^^

Congratulations on your neat net worth as well :D

<I won $60 real dollars in the local lottery. So there!>

I'll trade you 60 unreal dollars for that ^^

Sep-28-14  centralfiles: <and also to <centralfiles>, who lost about 10K a week ago, but has gained ~4K over the last few days.>

actually after leading by quite a margin for awhile I was looking forward to taking off the end of the leg as I was finding it all quite time consuming.

Then Dakkie came from nowhere and we were neck in neck. At first I hoped he'd be gone as quick as he came but soon realized who I was up against. Losing patience I made some large bets with the idea of taking a large lead or settling for a top 12 spot if it didn't work out.

They didn't work out and dakkie was now clear 1st but instead of settling for 2nd I made some huge impulsive bets to try to get to 1st place and so managed to erase all the work I had put into getting to 1st place in the beginning.

I actually lost a full 13.5K and was down to 337 cb! and couldn't even get a decent loan, but I somehow managed to win 7000 cb and end up 5th.

Sep-28-14  dakgootje: <Then Dakkie came from nowhere and we were neck in neck.>

Ah, yes, that was fun :)

<At first I hoped he'd be gone as quick as he came but soon realized who I was up against.>

Fair point. That would've been a realistic possibility if I had been Switch. Then again, in that case there would've been a distinct possibility as well that he'd shoot onwards to 40k.

His inclusion in the player field tends to keep leaders on their toes ;D

Sep-28-14  centralfiles: <dakgootje:> Admit it, you totally wrote me off when I was at about 500cb.

OhioChessFan: <As this leg's was the first ever Pay Day, we're particularly interested in Pay-Day-related feedback. >

I don't get it. I almost bet 1 buck on one event just to generate the extra 1000. (I don't think I made any bets this round and really don't play the game much at all anyway). I'm not sure such a bet should generate 1000 for me as opposed to someone who didn't risk 1 chessbuck.

Penguincw: Is it me, or am I actually one of the options to bet on in ChessBookie 2014 Fall Leg Champion? I don't mind at all, although I am quite surprised to be listed among these Hall of Famers. Of course, maybe I'm just there for refund purposes...

Well, why not? You're already in 4th place:

Sep-29-14  scout118: <chessgames.com> <chessbookie>

Here's a suggestion on the number of qualifiers per leg.

How about increasing the usual 10 regular qualifiers per leg by the number of folks already qualified from the last championship leg.

For example, in the most recent (Summer 2014) leg, since wordfunph, dakgootje, Robin01, ManicSquirrel already qualified from the 2014 championship leg, then the next 4 highest scoring guys would have gone through with this modification.

This sort of levels the playing field and, in fact, the more guys competing with 10k to wager would make the championship leg even more competitive, wouldn't you think?

Your thoughts pls.

Sep-29-14  dakgootje: <CF><Admit it, you totally wrote me off when I was at about 500cb.>

Of course - if only because you seemed much more of a slowly grinding-type, while your situation at that point demanded some substantial aggression.

But perhaps my initial assumption was incorrect there :)

<Is it me, or am I actually one of the options to bet on in ChessBookie 2014 Fall Leg Champion?>

I'd bet it's but a testing wager, as a final part of wordfunph's training. Just to check whether everything indeed works as he thinks it does. If memory serves at the start of the last leg, one of the first bets was whether Daniel Freeman would set himself alight with the July 4th festivity-fireworks. Also notice the PAYS: Sep-29-14 :)

That said, if the bet would be real, then Switch at 5.14 seems like a real steal :P

An interesting wager would be to bet on who'd win a poll of the person you'd most like to set themself afire.

I know you didn't ask me, but I'd like to post my 2 cents: I'm on your side with this one. I'm pretty sure the only reason why they make it "Top 10 including those who already qualified" is to force those who qualify to play <again>, even though they have nothing to gain or lose. However, if they said "Top 10 excluding those who already qualified", then it might be easier for underdogs to qualify. Having only the best players in the world with an advantage isn't fair. A tournament (or championship) wouldn't be a tournament without underdogs. :)

< That said, if the bet would be real, then Switch at 5.14 seems like a real steal :P >

It's now up to 5.91. However, I'm pretty sure the only reason why it's that high is because people want to bet on themselves (other). ;)

I got kicked down to #13. :( Any explanations for this, even though my net worth is still in a 21 way tie for 1st with 1,000?

Sneaky: <Admit it, you totally wrote me off when I was at about 500cb.> I know from experience, looks can be deceiving. From the outside all you guys see is a 500cb net worth. On my ticket pageI got a 3000 cb loan along with 3500 worth of tickets. If some of those tickets win, vavoooooooom!

By the way, what do we get for winning the practice leg?

True But I had 337 cb and no tickets and was only eligible for a 400cb loan, so it was pretty tough.

Chessgames Bookie: <Penguincw> The times indicated for leaderboard updates are always off by about 20-30 minutes. (This has nothing to do with the clock that's responsible for betting markets closing at the right time; although that clock does in fact run a bit slow, it's adjusted often enough it's seldom off by more than a couple minutes. Even so, we need to account for that when we set the closing times.)
