 | | Stonehenge: <What piece will Gelfand play on 21st move?> What if he castles, does that count as a king move? |
|
Oct-12-14
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <Stonehenge> Yes. |
|
Oct-12-14
 | | Stonehenge: Thanks, I've put 100 chessbucks on the king. Go Gelfand, just play your king on the 21st move. Even if it is a blunder :) |

 | | Penguincw: FIDE Grand Prix Baku 2014 Round 9: Caruana - Grischuk : Grischuk [cash in ticket] 50 YOU WIN! COLLECT 443 8:1 8.87 443 Oct-12-14 Sigh. It's impossible to make a lot of cash nowadays, because betters have been getting smarter. Here, no one fell for the odds, as 7:6 for Caruana winning or drawn are just too good to be true. :( Meh, who am I to be ungrateful? I made 51 cbs in a difficult round, so I should be happy. Who knows when the next time I'll be this good? ;) |

| Oct-12-14 | | MarkFinan: I think someone has created a few handles just to bet on this leg again. I counted 5 handles, all created in September or October that have never kibitzed and only play the bookie game. Is it really that important?? There's no cash prizes at stake! I'll let you figure them out, but the only reason I noticed and clicked on their handles was because I've never seen them around here before. On a much lighter note I'm now top 20 🙋 |
|
| Oct-12-14 | | Pulo y Gata: It's important if you're counting them. |

 | | chessgames.com: <I counted 5 handles, all created in September or October that have never kibitzed and only play the bookie game.> I can speculate which users you mean, but they probably followed the "back in business" banner on the homepage. A few people visit chessgames not to interact but just to play ChessBookie and see the latest games, and that's fine with us. Rest assured we looked into it, and they don't appear to be in cahoots. Daniel wrote a program called <bookiecheaters> that looks for that kind of thing. We don't want to reveal the techniques used for obvious reasons. Anyhow, we are keeping our eyes on such things and happily we don't see any obvious problems. Anyhow thanks for your concern. If anybody sees something really fishy, let us know by email. |

P.S. Anyone who know the tiebreaker for such events. ;) |

| Oct-14-14 | | technical draw: <P.S. Anyone who know the tiebreaker for such events.> Yes. It's alphabetical order. So I have a T and he has a, ah, I have ah, hold it, make that reverse alphabetical order. |

 | | Annie K.: Hmm, hate to nitpick, but if a bet is titled "Upset Special", then "Yes" should mean there will be an upset (i.e., not all the favorites will win) and "No" should mean there will be no upset (all favorites win), not the other way around. :) |
|
Oct-19-14
 | | OhioChessFan: If someone loses a bet because of that, they'll surely be upset. |
|
Oct-19-14
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <Annie> You do? Really? :s It can be a bit confusing after we went on an "upset/no upset" basis last leg, but ultimately I don't think there's any reason why "yes" referring to an upset should be the Onyl Tru Costume. All the Love Specials last leg had "yes" for "3 points or more" and "no" for "no more than 2.5 points", and nobody objected to that; besides, swapping "yes" and "no" at this point would only confuse people even more. |

 | | Annie K.: Just a phrase, <Switch>, just a phrase. ;p <I don't think there's any reason why "yes" referring to an upset should be the Onyl Tru Costume.> There is... If the title is 'Upset', then 'Yes' or 'No' should relate to the title accordingly. <All the Love Specials last leg had "yes" for "3 points or more" and "no" for "no more than 2.5 points", and nobody objected to that> I am vaguely aware that in context 'Love' is some kind of sports (tennis?) term, but I haven't the foggiest idea as to its exact meaning, so it wouldn't bother me if you were using it upside down, sideways, or diagonally. Unfortunately, I do know what 'Upset' means. ;) And I don't think "people are used to it" is a good reason to continue an illogical practice. Plus, it hasn't really had such a long history yet, so it would be a good idea to correct it before it *does* become entrenched, that is, ASAP (though not in mid-bet, I suppose - I'd let this one stand). :) |
|
| Oct-19-14 | | centralfiles: If it is corrected the next few bets should make it clear in CAP letters. |
|
Oct-19-14
 | | Penguincw: Grr. These upset bets are impossible to win. Just when I think that there will be an upset, there is none. Then I bet no upset, and one top seed draws their game to ruin it. I believe I'm 0 for 3 so far (not counting Olympiad). :( |
|
| Oct-19-14 | | centralfiles: <Penguincw> Actually I think there were 3 draws... |
|
| Oct-19-14 | | centralfiles: Am I imagining or were the closing times of the Grand prix bets changed mid-bet? |
|
Oct-19-14
 | | Penguincw: Obviously, I was exaggerating (like usual), but you know what I mean. Also, I don't think it would matter if the closing times changed. It's only changed for what's necessary. :) |

 | | Sneaky: I'm playing the "I don't really care, I already qualified" game. I got paid off on MVL beating Caruana today. Yay! But sadly the odds just weren't that fabulous. I wasn't the only person with that thought in mind. |
|
| Oct-22-14 | | centralfiles: Chessbookie:
Theres still time here for some excciting bets, how about a bet on final score of winner and another bet on the final score of loser?
(The earlier this kind of bet goes up the more exciting it is it gets kind of boring after 6-7 rounds) |
|
| Oct-22-14 | | centralfiles: Also maybe we can have a bet on ow many decisive games out of the remaining 54 games? |
|
Oct-22-14
 | | Penguincw: < 13. Penguincw 1,730 > I lost track of how many times this leg I was in 13th place, one short of qualifying. When 13 is your lucky number, you're just asking for trouble. :| On a side note, what happens if in FIDE Grand Prix Tashkent 2014 Round 3: Radjabov - Vachier Lagrave "Bishop's First Move", the bishop doesn't move or is captured? |
|
Oct-22-14
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <Penguincw> All tickets will be refunded. |
