Penguincw: Well, it's kinda pointless now, but whatever. :)

BTW: Did you hear back from <cg> about Pay Day?

Nov-16-15
Premium Chessgames Member
Chessgames Bookie: OK folks, now for some important news!

One, as I've just updated in the Announcements, Pay Day will be this Thursday. :)

Two, the long-awaited Leaderboard Update function for the Bookie has just been implemented! Now we don't have to wait for the Leaderboard to update at its regular intervals anymore; we can update it when we're finished paying off the day's bets.

The function is resource-intensive, so we shouldn't use it after every single bet, but can run it as soon as all bets are paid, or even twice a day, if we're covering two events at the same time, and they are at significantly different hours.

On top of that, the Leaderboard will continue to be recomputed automatically, now twice a day: at server time 4:15 am and pm.

Annie

Yes! Finally!

Actually, if I think about it, this leg has kinda flown by, so much the opposite of "finally".

< Two, the long-awaited Leaderboard Update function for the Bookie has just been implemented! >

Why couldn't this have been implemented when <I> was bookie!

But still, cool! Try it out. Oh wait, you already did.

I'm not sure if back-to-back TCEC games would count as "all bets done for today"...

OhioChessFan: <Annie: I could remark that if you, as it appears, wish to be treated with courtesy, and most specifically, granted the courtesy of an a priori assumption of non-malignance... you really should try extending some of the same yourself.>

I could remark that you exude an aura of infallibilty that rubs me the wrong way rather often, but I won't. :)

Annie K.: <OhioChessFan> well, it's lucky you didn't, or I might have had to inform you that it's spelled 'infallibility'! ;s

Chessgames Bookie: Sheesh, will you two give it a rest already?! :p
Nov-19-15  Nightranger: <Annie K.>, <Penguincw> Thank you both for the reply. I suspected it might be something like an issue with rounding. I just didn't see how the rounding was dropping 1 cb but with <Penguincw>'s explanation, I do.

I do remember reading odds are rounded down and why not? What bookie (or anyone for that matter) pays out more than they have to?

And yeah! Unfair, right! But it's not like I have missed out in the top 100 by 1 cb or anything.

Nov-21-15  bishopbandit: When does fall leg end?¿
Nov-21-15
Premium Chessgames Member
Annie K.: Either on December 30, with the end of Qatar Masters, or up to a week or so later - we haven't decided yet. In any case, Tata will definitely belong to the Championship Leg, and you will be given the exact date in time to make informed decisions about your leg-end strategies. :)

Penguincw: Hmm, the leg is still a LOONG way to go.

<Annie: ... and you will be given the exact date in time to make informed decisions about your leg-end strategies. >

Hehe, I still remember when during my trial, the last day of the leg was not known, until the day before that. :P

Speaking of my trial, in case it wasn't obvious, I'm not hosting the Spring 2016 leg. :( I just don't have the time to do it (or time to do anything, rather). So, if anyone wants to volunteer for that leg, it's all yours. I should probably email that to <cg> right now (or maybe I'll do it when I have some other things to do)...

Sorry.

juan31: A suggestion for christmas : Loanshark forget the debt of all. Thank you
Nov-22-15
Premium Chessgames Member
  Penguincw: I like that suggestion!

Uh, <bookie>, for the manual leaderboard update, does it update the <entire> leaderboard, or just, like, the top 12?

Right now, I see that I'm currently at 3725 cbs. The leaderboard update says 3725 cbs.

However, ChessBookie Standings says I'm at 3345, which was where I was yesterday.

Annie K.: The Loanshark will indeed suffer such regrettable memory problems shortly after Christmas - when the leg ends. ;)

<Penguin> yes, I noticed that too, it seems only the actual leaderboard gets updated... will have to take it up with Daniel.

There's still quite a bit of time to worry about next year's Bookie roster. I'll start asking about in a few month too. :)

Penguincw: Wow, TCEC games almost done. 94/100 done. Komodo has already clinched at least a draw. So, what's after TCEC?

BTW: What did <cg> say about the leaderboard update?

Nov-28-15
Premium Chessgames Member
Annie K.: <Penguin> Komodo is totally winning this championship. The only decisive games so far were 8 wins in Komodo's favor, to 2 wins by Stockfish!

Yeah, I'll have to do some digging to see if any site will be running anything worth betting on in the next days. Everybody else also please feel free to do your own research, and let me know if you find anything, otherwise we may have to have some vacation. :p

<cg> said the update script is supposed to do the entire standings, but there may be a permissions issue with the Bookie's version of it, and he'll look into it. Soon, I hope. ;s

ChessBookie Introduction

Don't miss out on the fun for this Super Tournament!

Nov-30-15  MarkFinan: How come you put up those wagers without telling everyone who plays the bookie game? I check every night and those bets weren't there, now it's too late to bet! I'm sorry for moaning Annie, I'm just curious as to how long those wagers were there before betting closed?
Nov-30-15  MarkFinan: And now that Komodo Stockfish tournament is finished I can say what people like Syd figured out early.. You're basically flipping a coin on whether the game will last 60 moves or under 60 moves. 93% (I think) are drawn games, but at least I guessed the last 4 games correctly. I need the bookie to pay up so I can pay that loanshark, I should be out of the cellar.

Annie K.: <WinKing> thanks for the advertising! :)

<Mark>, yeah, sorry, they were not up very long - I didn't have time to put up bets until I got home (which is late by my and European standards), but those are still convenient hours for our American players, so it was worth giving them something to play with at least.

There should be more bets up soon - that tournament has one more round to go - but I need <cg> to fix a technical problem that just came up before they'll be available. :\

Nov-30-15  WinKing: <Annie K.: <WinKing> thanks for the advertising! :)>

Your welcome <Annie K.>! You should do a brisk business with the London event. :)

Dec-01-15  MarkFinan: No worries Annie. And my net worth is now 2000 cb's, plus I have 11000 cb's in funds. This is the greatest comeback since Lazarus, lol.

Penguincw: And then there's me. When I went on this site this morning to place my R2 bets, I thought I would be an hour early, but I was actually an hour <late>.

I would've gained about 115 cbs had I bet. :(

But watch when I bet tomorrow, and end up losing money...
