 | | Chessgames Bookie: It's Pay Day!
All active players should have received their free 1,000 chessbucks by now; if you didn't get the bonus and think you should have been eligible for it, please report the problem immediately. |
| Jun-14-16 | | Keyser Soze: I forgot. dang! |
| Jun-17-16 | | WinKing: Hey 'book' are you putting up any individual games from the Your Next Move/Leuven Rapid section? |
Jun-17-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <WinKing> I didn't put up any bets for day 1 games because I wasn't sure whether I could trust the pairings completely. (I briefly put up betting on some Paris day 1 rapid games before I realized the pairings I was looking at were placeholders. The pairings given here were probably accurate, but once bitten, twice shy.) Unless something unforeseen happens, you'll be able to bet on day 2 rapid games and both days of blitz. |
| Jun-17-16 | | WinKing: Yeah I know all about not trusting pairings. Look forward to betting on day 2 rapid games. Thanks 'book'! :) |
| Jun-17-16 | | brankat: Before we place bets for day #2, it would be helpful to know the results of day #1. The tournament page doesn't seem to be available. |
Jun-17-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <brankat> Unfortunately, I can't open tournament forums; I asked Daniel Freeman to open one for this event earlier today, but he hasn't done it yet. In the meantime, you can click on any of the links that say "See the Grand Chess Tour site for more information" to find the day 1 results; or you can go directly to http://grandchesstour.org/2016-your... for the current standings. (After day 1, Anand is in the lead with 7 points; both Carlsen and Nakamura had shaky starts.) |
| Jun-17-16 | | brankat: Thank You Bookie! |
| Jun-19-16 | | brankat: <Chessgames Bookie> When does the Spring leg end? Thank You. |
Jun-19-16
 | | chessgames.com: Hi folks, sorry about the little problem with round #4. I am investigating a possible error with the odds of the payoffs. I just fixed this bet Your Next Move GCT Leuven (blitz) rd 4: Carlsen - Vachier-Lagrave
Would you believe that a whopping 20+ people had the foresight to bet on MLV there? But only 1 of those 20 people got their bet in before the game had actually begun. Our bet correction software should refund every late-bet and readjust the payoffs as if the late bettors simply did not participate. As it turns out this software is flat out buggy. I just correct the above bet semi-manually and am working on the others next. If anybody noticed a problem with the above bet's resolution (like if you were supposed to be paid and didn't, or if you got paid when you weren't supposed to) please explain the situation now. Thanks. |

Jun-19-16
 | | chessgames.com: I am very sorry to report that after working on the problem for over an hour I probably made the situation far worse than it was. Regarding these bets:
Your Next Move GCT Leuven (blitz) rd 4: Carlsen - Vachier-Lagrave
Your Next Move GCT Leuven (blitz) rd 5: Kramnik - Carlsen
Your Next Move GCT Leuven (blitz) rd 5: Vachier-Lagrave - Anand
I believe they have all been corrected fully. But regarding these bets: Your Next Move GCT Leuven (blitz) rd 6: Carlsen - Caruana
Your Next Move GCT Leuven (blitz) rd 6: Anand - Nakamura
Your Next Move GCT Leuven (blitz) rd 7: So - Topalov
Your Next Move GCT Leuven (blitz) rd 7: Nakamura - Aronian
Your Next Move GCT Leuven (blitz) rd 8: Carlsen - So
Your Next Move GCT Leuven (blitz) rd 9: Nakamura - Carlsen
The cutoff time was, due to sloppiness on my part, entered into the computer as earlier than it should have been. This means that some perfect valid bets that came in right before the window should have closed were treated as refunds. Specifically, a time of 10:00 EST was used for bets in the second category even though most of them started at 11:00 EST. I tried to think of some way to reverse this mistake but I cannot, save going through thousands of logfile lines and using insanely clever accounting skills which I don't possess. I apologize for this error. It will scramble some player's finances unfairly one way or the other. The only fairness in it lies in the fact that the refunded bets are refunded with complete disregard to whether they won or lost. Plus, we can rest assured that nobody who intentionally placed a late "cheater bet" on the winning result will get paid for their try. |
| Jun-20-16 | | greed and death: All the refunded bets from rds 4-9 are still showing up as "live" for me rather than refunded, which means that the chessbucks I had on them are still tied up rather than being available to me for betting. |
Jun-20-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <greed and death> I'm aware of the problem; we're working on it. The plan is to only refund those bets that were placed after betting should have closed, and pay off all other bets normally; which was supposed to be very easy, since we had pre-existing programs to do exactly that. Unfortunately, we've discovered bugs and problems that are delaying the process. It's possible we'll end up temporarily refunding all bets on those markets so your chessbucks won't be stuck in them, and then unrefund them later and settle them properly when we've figured out how to fix the various errors. |

| Jun-21-16 | | brankat: It's been a while we have not had any Daily Double, let alone Pick-3 bets. Why? |
| Jun-22-16 | | wordfunph: ...and something special and weird. |
Jun-22-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: I have temporarily refunded all bets on 9 markets from June 19; we hope to un-refund these bets later and settle them properly. We apologize for the inconvenience; I know this isn't completely fair even as a temporary solution, but it's better than people's money being stuck in unsettled bets. The dearth of Pick Threes and Daily Doubles has to do with the lack of non-rapid/blitz supertournaments lately; don't worry, you'll get plenty of them in July, and maybe a couple Daily Doubles before that. In the meantime, have fun with Edmonton rd 5: Mini-Triple! |
| Jun-22-16 | | Boomie: Alas, there is still a problem.
<TCEC Stage 2 rd 7: Jonny - Houdini> appears in Your Tickets as a live bet and in Closed Events. The game hasn't started yet so late bets are still valid, I guess. But you better complete the closing function real soon as the game should be starting within the hour. (1:15 PM PDT) |
Jun-22-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: I don't see any problem with the Jonny-Houdini game. As far as I can tell, betting closed quite some time ago; any ticket that hasn't been settled yet appears as a "live bet" in ticket listings, regardless of whether betting on that market is still open. |
| Jun-22-16 | | Boomie: <CB>
Thanks for the heads up. Sorry for the newbie question. |
| Jun-22-16 | | gauer: Is the User: Chessgames Bookie finishing this leg following the Friday after next (it sure seemed like a short ~ 6-7 weeks, more or less)? "1.Each year is broken up into four "legs": spring, summer, fall, and winter. (Our definitions of the seasons are slightly skewed to accommodate major tournaments. For our purposes, winter includes March.) " from ChessBookie Game Help Page , making approximately 3 month legs, give-or-take a month (such a shame that I slipped from the top 10-listing after March...). |
Jun-22-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: The Spring Leg will end no earlier than July 15; most likely, it will end on July 23 with betting on the last round of the Bilbao Masters. |
Jun-23-16
 | | Sneaky: Nobody wants 278:1 odds on Valencia beating Ganguly? Oh come on, stranger things have happened.
I can't quite remember when, but I bet they have. |
| Jun-24-16 | | greed and death: <Sneaky:> Didnt some random guy beat Giri at a team event earlier this year (or maybe at the end of last year, I can't remember exactly). |
Jun-24-16
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <wordfunph> I have an exotic for you :) Edmonton rd 8: Midsummer Night's Special
Good luck, and have fun! |
