Jun-25-16  WinKing: For the purpose of the upcoming Midsummer Night's Special bet I did an unofficial count of King moves vs. Queen moves for the first 7 rounds of the 11th Edmonton International Chess Tournament 2016. Here are my findings:

Rd1: 33-29 (More King moves) w/No underpromotions
Rd2: 63-36 (More Queen moves) w/No underpromotions
Rd3: 57-49 (More Queen moves) w/No underpromotions
Rd4: 59-36 (More Queen moves) w/No underpromotions
Rd5: 71-27 (More Queen moves) w/No underpromotions
Rd6: 71-36 (More Queen moves) w/No underpromotions
Rd7: 41-30 (More Queen moves) w/No underpromotions

The King moves have only won the first round with rounds 2 thru 7 having more Queen moves. None of the games had an underpromotion. For the King moves to have a chance you need at least one Queenless endgame in the round from what I can see. There haven't been many of those to this point in time. Looks like the 'Yes' pick should be the odds on favorite and is so far.

Jun-25-16  wordfunph: <Chessgames Bookie> that made my day :)

thank you.

Jun-25-16  brankat: "Yes" pick is the favourite, except at 1.31 there is no money there. That's been the problem with the "mini-doubles", too. No point in betting.

SwitchingQuylthulg: Sorry, you'll need to ask Daniel Freeman about the Leuven blitz bets; he was supposed to sort them out long ago, and I have no idea what's caused the delay. Last I heard, <Annie> was going to prod him; apparently that didn't help.

I did (I emailed him on Tuesday), but he hasn't replied yet (normally he replies within 24 hours). :(

Jul-17-16  greed and death: IIRC, if you fix them I'll lose a ton of money so please don't. :(
Jul-17-16  WinKing: I think Dortmund started two hours earlier today. The betting windows are still open & the games are already in progress.

http://wyco2016chess.sk/en/live , http://www.chess-results.com/partie... or http://www.chess-results.com/tnr229... are some of the games covered for the 2016 World youth chess Olympiad at Slovakia. The 2016 USA Junior championship also just finished, with nice results by Liang and Xiong, too.

Is it best to post at (a) Chessgames Bookie chessforum , (b) User: chessgames.com , (c) <in the notes section of> PGN Upload Utility or (d) Biographer Bistro when one finds a bulk pgn source, especially when the PGN upload queue can be filled up!?

Jul-23-16  WinKing: Congratulations <Chnebelgrind> on winning the Spring Leg! You had a very strong finish - well done.

Chnebelgrind: Thanks <WinKing> and congrats for your 3th rank. After <Touch of Knight>s strike yesterday I have decided to risk it all for the victory. In the final rd I had 12200 bucks on the line (my 8200 and 4000 loan), all of them on Draws and DDD. Half of the Money on each of this tickets was mine. Bad luck for <Touch> who already has finished 8 times on rank 2 or 3.

Wow, now that's what I call 'going all in'. I just played a few hundred chessbucks on the 'longshots' which of course really had very little chance of winning.

  chessgames.com: Hi folks,

<Chnebelgrind> is the official winner.

This is the point where we go over log files to make sure everything is on the up-and-up. I'll make a post tomorrow to that effect, and will hopefully be able to give a start-date for the next leg.

Jul-24-16  Touch of Knight: Congratulations <Chnebelgrind>! I was pretty sure that you would try hard in the last round. You did, and succeeded. Well done!

chessgames.com: Congratulations to <Chnebelgrind> who finished with 11,058 chessbucks and also to the qualifying runner-ups:

(2) Touch of Knight 9,199
(3) WinKing 5,862
(4) gunsan 5,634
(5) Smooth Operator 5,227
(6) kurtrichards 4,673
(7) wordfunph 4,596
(8) fivealpha 4,492
(9) dunkenchess 4,319
(10) Penguincw 4,204

As most of you know there was an issue with some blitz bets on June 19th. In retrospect I believe it was a mostly a user error (i.e. myself) when using the utilities designed to correct bets with problems. I made a mistake and tried to fix my error by running the software more than once, which apparently only made things worse.

For this reason I am tempted to allow in the next two runner ups as qualifiers:

(11) Boomie 3,845
(12) Sneaky 3,725

I don't want to make calls like this ad hoc. However, I'll do it if anybody in the above list steps forward and says that their finances were so scrambled during that phase that it make make a difference in the leaderboard standings. Luckily not a lot of money was involved; I think perhaps Penguincw was specifically cheated out of ~200 on a longshot bet, but that doubtfully makes a difference. Sorry again for that confusion; live and learn.

I'll be handing the keys to the city to your next bookie, <Annie K.> shortly, and the new leg will begin this week.

Penguincw: Thanks for a great leg <Switch>, good luck in the Summer Leg (you have won it 3 times already, so no pressure).

And yes, I finally qualified for the Championship Leg, albeit on my 11th try. I almost missed it, as in the last month, I lost about 150 cbs, and fell from 2nd to 10th, but still made it in the end. :)

A few years ago, <wordfunph> kept a list of ChessBookie big-wigs (Chessgames Bookie chessforum), although it hasn't been updated since. I tried to update it myself, but need to double check it. However, according to my updated version of that thing, I am ranked #93-178 for 1-time leg runner up. Of course, I'm not the only user to have "finally" qualified from this leg. The other newly first-time qualifiers are <Smooth Operator>, <fivealpha>, <dunkenchess> and <Boomie>.

Congrats to <Chnebelgrind> for winning his 4th leg, which is 2nd to only <Switch>'s 10. This is also his 13th time finishing top 10 in a leg, which is 4th most out of all users. He did win with 11,058 cbs, but that's actually the 3rd least for a leg winner.

Congrats to <Touch of Knight> for a 14th top 10 leg finish (tied with <Robin01> for 2nd most, behind <Switch>'s 18). <Touch of Knight> is also the user with the most runner-ups, without winning any legs.

Also congrats to <Sneaky> for qualifying for your 9th Championship Leg.

Congrats to everyone else, good luck to <Annie K.> for the Summer, and well, see you all in a couple of days.

Jul-25-16  WinKing: Yes, thank you for all of your hard work <Switch> in running the Spring Leg.
Jul-25-16  Boomie: ->

What? I don't get to be the bubble boy? Then what am I going to complain about?
