Chessgames Bookie: The final event of the Spring Leg will be the US National Open Championship in Las Vegas, June 16-18. It's a Swiss tournament so we can't offer any betting until the event is underway. Official site: http://www.lvchessfestival.com/natl...

lostemperor: <Chessgames Bookie> so this means you do not include the tournament in Ukraine http://www.aerosvit2006.ukrchess.or... for the springleg?
Jun-12-06  suenteus po 147: <lostemperor> My understanding is that the tournament to which you linked is out of bounds for the spring leg because it finishes after the end of the spring leg.

Sneaky: Well it's official. I'm totally busted. I was so desperate for a payoff I had to bet on Paco for crying out loud!!

I'm gonna have to skip town before the leg ends or that dude with the brass-knuckles-chess-set is going to send his goons after me...

But you haven't heard the last of the Sneak!! Get used to seeing my name at the top of the list come summer!!

Jun-12-06  acirce: If only Bruzon had beaten Anand I would have made a fortune no matter the other results. And it was so close!
Jun-12-06  blingice: When are those games to be uploaded?
Jun-12-06  suenteus po 147: <blingice> All the games have been uploaded. See here: XIX Ciudad de Leon (2006)

chessgames.com: Here's a tournament going on right now in Salou, Spain, that might provide some betting - http://www.chessinsalou.com/

The leaders include Hichem Hamdouchi, Azer Mirzoev, Kevin Spragget, and Olev Korneev.

The only problem is that I can't figure out when the rounds start. It says Round 7 on 2006/06/13 at 16:30 but I'm not sure if that's GMT or local time.

Chessgames Bookie: We have opened up betting for round 8 of Internacional d'escacs Vila de Salou. Both of these games pit a GM against an IM, so the betting should be interesting.

Internacional d'escacs Vila de Salou: Rd.8: Caruana vs Spraggett

Internacional d'escacs Vila de Salou: Rd.8: Hamdouchi vs Lopez-Martinez

As far as I can tell, these games are not being broadcast live on the internet.

  Chessgames Bookie: Round 9's wagers:

Internacional d'escacs Vila de Salou: Rd.9: Spraggett vs Pogorelov

Internacional d'escacs Vila de Salou: Rd.9: Vernay vs Hamdouchi

The second game is interesting because Clovis Vernay has achieved no title (rated 2293) while GM Hamdouchi has many fine tournament victories to his credit. Can the underdog survive a GM encounter?

Jun-15-06  AdrianP: I've sneaked onto the leaderboard for the first time (going all in on the draw in Caruana v Spraggett)... and a good time to do it as well...!

I suspect things will quite a bit over the next couple of days - I'd think one needs 10,000 chessbucks to feel safe to be in the top 10 for the spring leg.

<Chessbookie> Am I right that there will be betting today, tomorrow, 17/6/06 but not 18/6/06 - i.e. essentially three more rounds of betting?

Chessgames Bookie: <AdrianP> There will be betting Saturday and Sunday, and possibly tomorrow if the pairings go up early enough to allow for it.

Sunday will be the last day of betting of the Spring Leg. At that point the game will go offline for up to 24 hours as we tabulate the qualifiers, update the Hall of Fame, and refresh all accounts for the Summer Leg.

We are deciding on some small changes for the Summer Leg, nothing that will greatly change the nature of the game, but hopefully some things to help stimulate the economy. We will announce these changes soon.

Chessgames Bookie: You can bet on the outcome of the National Open Championship all the way up to 2:00pm (EDT) tomorrow.

National Open Championship: Winner

Note that when the betting closes, round #3 will just be beginning. You may want to wait until the end of the day to check the standings before committing. Official site: http://www.lvchessfestival.com/natl...

Jun-18-06  brankat: <Chessgames Bookie> It appears that GM Sargissian is NOT participating in the National Open Championship, although he had been listed as one of the options to bet on, at 44-1. What happens with the Chessbucks bet on him (I had put 100 on Sargissian). Is the money lost or refunded? Thank You.

Chessgames Bookie: <brankat> We'll refund those tickets right away.

Chessgames Bookie: <brankat> We'll refund those tickets right away. There were a few other no-shows which also require refunds: GM Ghaem Maghami, and GM Kiriakov.

<all> Once the winners for the National Open Championship are posted, the tickets will be paid off and the game will shut down for about 1 day. Then everybody will start with a fresh slate for the Summer Leg.

lostemperor: Thanks <Chessgames Bookie>. I enjoyed this game a lot. And thank you <Loanshark> for not breaking both my thumbs for not paying back my loan. I tell you what, you may have all my profit to pay back for your generosity!

Chessgames Bookie: <<<Congratulations>>> to TrueBlue for winning the #1 spot in the Spring Leg with an amazing 23,203 chessbucks.

Also, congratulations to the nine runner ups: jokinas, tsyer, TheoreticalNovelty, unsound, iron maiden, suenteus po 147, AdrianP, Chuga, and Avion!

All ten of these players are officially qualified for the Championship and will start the Winter leg with 10,000 chessbucks.

(Note: it does not matter if you have had a chance to sign-in yet and cash in your recently winning tickets from the National Open Championship. The system automatically takes winning tickets into account when calculating your net worth.)

The results from this leg are preserved here forevermore: http://www.chessgames.com/chessbook...

<<<New Rule>>> There is a small change for the summer leg. The change is that the "juice" that the house collects will now be chopped in half, from 10% down to 5%. We hope that this stimulates the economy.

<<<Start of a New Leg>>> Later today, I will perform the following actions: (1) Clear out all tickets, bets, betting lines, etc. (2) Set everybody's loan status to zero, (3) Set everybody's account status to 1000 chessbucks.

Good luck to everybody in the Summer Leg!

Jun-19-06  cavaleiro: Hooray! I've finished at the 399th place, but my debts were forgiven! Thank you, Loanshark!
Jun-19-06  iron maiden: Thanks for a well-run spring leg, <chessgames.com>.
Jun-19-06  DCP23: My profile page still shows the old balance, the bookie page however shows 1000.
