   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

Domdaniel: Wesley is a man of his word. Once again, I am impressed by his willingness to stick to commitments.

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Open Defence: There was a young fellow from Cork
Who fell in love with the Duke of York
He thought it was very dandy
Until he met a highlander named Sandy
who's kilt was the shortest good God!!
Nov-26-06  mack: Oh the Grand Old Duke of York,
He had ten thousand men.

Well, you know how people talk.

Nov-26-06  TheSlid: Well, you know how people talk....Said to have been in a single afternoon...not natural, that.

  Domdaniel: Hi <all>
OK, we didn't have a forum for ...Qb5.
Wasn't exactly a shock, though.

I suggest we take a few mins to refamiliarize ourselves with the main options. I'll have to, anyway.

Meantime, if anyone wants to make suggestions or volunteers for anything -- take the floor...

  Domdaniel: <Ohio> & <everyone> Who's down....?? ;[

Yeah, and Qf4 turns up on RV's forum as well as my Fritz.

Here are the main options for move 30, I think:

A) R1f2
B) fxg6
C) Qf4
D) Qg5
E) Rc1

Can't much see the point in R3f2. Any others, or any takers for these?

Domdaniel: <Deffi> 'stab at a limerick', eh? Limerick - the place - is known locally as 'Stab City' on accounta the high rate of gang warfare etc.
