 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> thanks for your kind comments on Canada not to mention MEXICO LAND OF CONFUSION. Speaking of Irish people who aren't actually Irish, had you read Malcolm Lowry's "Under the Volcano" before? It is a towering novel, top ten in history in my view, up there with "Heart of Darkness" and "Hello God, it's me, Margaret." As a <Canadophile>, I though you might appreciate this other Andrew Sweeny video I made about INDIANS AND LAND AND SUCH. It has almost exclusive 100 per cent Canadian content images. "The Heart is a Pathless Land"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYxZ...
Here is the epigram I put in front of the lyrics on the video- "Everything that is bad has been laid against me this summer, there is nothing of it true ... Had I wanted war, I would not be here now. I should be on the prairie. You did not catch me. I gave myself up. You have got me because I wanted justice." -------Chief Poundmaker, 1885
He said that after a CANADIAN CANGAROO COURT (CCC) found him guilty of treason, the gingery beggars (Oh and I passed on your comment to Andrew and he was most appreciative- and he laughed. You may be pleased to know he "laughs on line" by typing "hahaha" instead of LOLOLOLOLOL) |

 | | OhioChessFan: I got a gal with just one eye
No depth of field but sweet as pie
And I just don’t careo
If her vision is in stereo
To me she’ll always be the tops
My sweet little cyclops
She’s the one-eye, one-eye, one-eye, one-eye
She’s the one-eye, one I love
Now you might wonder what she’s thinkin’
‘Cause it looks like she is winkin’
In arguments I yell and cry
But she just can’t see the other side
It’s worse than it looks, says her mother
‘Cause she’s blind in one, blond in the other
She’s the one-eye, one-eye, one-eye, one-eye
She’s the one-eye, one I love
Now how it happened, she just won’t spill
Was it scissor sprint or William Tell?
Well the eye got put out and was never found
Gone to take a look around
My Columbo cutie, Popeye punkin’
Sammy Junior, Sandy Duncan
She's the one-eye, one-eye, one-eye, one-eye
She's the one-eye, one I love |

 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> Did you see that Travis called me a "gay canadien" ...? I've never been so nicely complimented - well, apart from the time that you, an actual Canadian, used the 'genius' word. And maybe a few other times too. Still, my little heart filled with pride. Freud, the daft old bat, would say that insults reveal deep desires. So maybe Trav gazes out over the Great Lakes, longing for lumberjacks. And, well, *Mounties*. Stranger things have happened, but not many. |

| Dec-28-09 | | hms123: <Dom> I just finished reading a wonderful book (genre: mystery, I guess) by Ken Bruen. The title is "London Underground". Bruen is from Galway so I immediately wondered if you knew him, knew of him, had read any of his works, etc. I think you would enjoy "London Underground" immensely. His use of language is marvelous. |

 | | Domdaniel: <hms> Yeah, I met Ken Bruen once - it was for a newspaper interview, but we got on very well. He sent me a book and a CD (by Galway musician Johnny Duhan) afterwards. Every so often I kick myself for not staying in touch. He has a great series of noir crime books set in Galway, featuring a middle-aged ex-cop (garda), Jack Taylor. They include The Guards, The Killing of the Tinkers; he's also written several London novels, and edited a story collection, Dublin Noir. All highly recommended by me. Ken is one of the good guys. |

| Dec-29-09 | | Travis Bickle: <Domdaniel> Im sorry I called you a gay Canadien. I really dont care if you are gay straight or bi-sexual. I was just frustrated that people thought the usage of words was more important than a man being brutally murdered in front of his children on the Christmas Holiday. I know you don't believe in God or Jesus so the Holiday he was murdered on would not be significant to you and that's ok too. Many times I get frustrated in debates and I take it very personal as I feel people who don't believe in my point of view or people who make fun of me don't respect me, but I am finding out nobody repects me anyway LOL. Sorry again. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Travis> No worries. I was amused, cos I'm neither gay nor Canadian -- but I wouldn't mind if I was. And Christmas is significant for me: I might not go to church, but I respect those who do. Of course that murder was vile and horrible. You're right about that. But I don't think anyone was saying that the meaning of words was *more* important, were they? Just that, even when ugly stuff happens, we need to look at what we're saying. Maybe especially when ugly stuff happens. I think I understand your reaction -- people who intellectualize such things sometimes seem to lack the ability to *care*. On the other hand, people who lash out with 'condemn' words seem to be reacting on autopilot. BTW, that particular murder got almost no media coverage here. We had our own atrocities, I guess. In the past, few people would hear about such killings unless they lived locally or knew the victim personally. TV changed that. I'm suspicious about the way TV works on the emotions. Anyway, I guess we're friends. Happy new year.
PS. *Are* you a Professor of Quantum whatever-it-was? |

| Dec-29-09 | | hms123: <Dom> Thanks for the information. As I was reading London Underground, it occurred to me that is was something like what you might have written had you written something like it. I mean that as a high compliment to the poetic nature of your prose. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Red> Not really. 'Scotia' was an old name for Ireland. I think they acquired it because of an invasion by wild Irish about 1200 years ago. It wasn't all one-way traffic in these islands (now officially known as *These Islands* since 'British Isles' became taboo). Keep heading west from Dese Islands and you eventually reach Dose Islands and Dem Islands. Reputed to be part of Hind ... |
