   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

Domdaniel: Wesley is a man of his word. Once again, I am impressed by his willingness to stick to commitments.

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

From Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon

Oct-04-12  achieve: Thanks for contacting me by email, Matthew, and we were - and are - always able to speak privately, so I'm still here.

Bit rushed for time to say to stay close to the old timer's verses, they do on occasion represent "us", and by citing Pynchon you may be evoking Dom to respond and settle matters.

IMO nothing is settled, but "the writing is on the wall."

Meanwhile rest assured I'll be watching out for you. Take care.

Oct-04-12  achieve: <When I said " I don't want to talk with Domdaniel ", I should have said " I am not ready, not sure, still trying to find that song which will finally shake his foundations.> likely it will not be "one song", but you may be on to a trick or two, perhaps something more, and I agree "that more" may be worth looking for and pursuing, but in the end it will only play a minor role, as the main role plays out to its full potential, perhaps?
Oct-04-12  waustad: <perfidious>I heard that as "If you can't be good, be good at it."
Oct-05-12  mckmac: HEY kIDS, iT'S fRIDAY NIGHT AT THE OLD MAN'S HOUSE, THERE'S FOOD IN THE FRIDGE AND GROG FOR THOSE of age.

LET'S GO DISCO!!!!!!

Oct-05-12  dakgootje: Little known fact:

Grog actually equals a healthy and balanced diet. It's true!, ask at your local liquor store.

Oct-05-12  achieve: <Matt> Womack (twice "&"): Teardrops

Brilliant, hit guarantee, and one of my disco favs, because as a stiff whitey I got to loosen my hips on it, and because the music is just irreplaceable. Even the lyrics warrant a second look on closer inspection: <When I'm dancin' 'round, remind me baby of you I really let you down, next time I'll be true, yeah
I took a crazy chance
"She cries on every tune, every tune, every tune">

Good disco was as good as any music anytime, possibly with the exception of rap.

I really was into it and moving to at some key point late 80s.

thx!

Oct-05-12  achieve: And speaking of Marvin Gaye, legend and utter genius transmitting "the vibes" - this little tribute and interview with Arsenio "Crime boss" Hall is worth the warch:

So, I'll get things rolling with my favourite, but Ross mate, you may well walk with the best, but you can't sing like Caitlin.

You are shaking with Serge and this is for Sarah Watts.
