<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

OhioChessFan: <NakoSonorense> thank you, thank you very much for wanting to hear the King's music. It's really impossible to narrow the Essential Elvis to 5 songs, but these 5 should give you a pretty good idea of what the King is all about.

1. Heartbreak Hotel
2. Jailhouse Rock
3. Hound Dog
4. Suspicious Minds
5. Burnin Love

Oct-07-06  NakoSonorense: You were right, <WannaBe>, I had actually heard one of them, Jailhouse Rock. And as you said, I didn't know it was Elivs. :)

Thanks for the list, <Ohio>. I really liked all of them except for Heartbreak Hotel. I don't know, I think it's kind of slow or something. Not my style. But as far as the others are concerned, I enjoyed them very much. My favorite was Suspicious Minds. Loved the lyrics of this song.

If you have time, would you tell a few more of his most popular ones?

Thanks a lot! :)

  OhioChessFan: Sure thing <NakoSonorense>

1. Don't Be Cruel
2. All Shook Up
3. Teddy Bear

5. Return To Sender

WannaBe: One of my personal fav., is his late/last hit, it was in the movie Ocean's 11 (G. Clooney version) "A little less talking, A little more action please"

Open Defence: there is something about great music that's overlooked by guys while on dates in my bio.... ;-p
Oct-08-06  achieve: Another good one is "Can't help falling in love". BTW <UB40> did a great cover on that.. Did quite well for me at parties in the early hours:)

Sorry, drifted off. Back to the KING!!

Domdaniel: <Ohio> Your Odd Lie caught me. I think.

I still prefer the John Cale version of Heartbreak Hotel. "We could be so lonely....We!...Could!...Die!!..." [thud]

Oct-08-06  NakoSonorense: Thanks for those songs, Ohio and company. I downloaded them already, but I'll have to listen to them later. I'll let you know if I like 'em.

So long.

Oct-09-06  twinlark: G'day Ohio. Looks like GMAN has to actually put his thinking cap on for a change.

Can I safely assume you're still in workshopping mode as it certainly looks like there are a few moves and variations that'll need exploring soon?

Black has a few options and there are a few possible responses by White to each of these moves. I thought it may be a good idea to get a head start now that the d3 debate is resolved.

  Tabanus: 16.Rae1 Nd7 17.d4 Bf6 18.Rc1 Re8 19.Rf3 d5 20.e5 Bg7... is this forced?

This is the right forum, I hope :)

  Tabanus: Whereas 16.Rae1 Nd7 17.d4 Nf6 18.f5 Nxe4 19.fxg6 hxg6 20.Nxe4 Bxe4 21.Bh6 (=0.18 F8) wins an exchange.

kwgurge: <Tabanus> Why do you think black will paly Nd7 after Rae1? I doubt that he will. Rc8, e5 or d5 are more likely.

Tabanus: <kwgurge> Yes, maybe. After Rae1, Nd7 was top move on my Fritz8 after 6 hours - it's the only move I've investigated. If black can equalize with Nd7, we need not even look at Rc8, e5 or d5.

OhioChessFan: Summary of posts on the main page:

<Tabanus> says: My Fritz8 top line after 15...Bc6 and 6 hours is 16.Rae1 Nd7 17.d4 Bf6 18.Rc1 Re8 19.Qf3 Bg7 20.Qh3 d5

<Thorsson> replies to <Tabanus>: I suspect not, seeing as we move the same piece twice along the back rank in the first 3 moves. Black's moves look reasonable though.

<Weisyschwarz> replies to <Tabanus>:

Interesting line! No exchanges. Keeps black constipated.

<Nightranger> replies to <Tabanus>:

I like this line too.

<Tabanus> says: After I played out 15...Bc6 16.Rae1 Nd7 17.d4, Nf6 (not Bf6) may be better for black - apparently Nf6 starts a 'forcing line' which I had not time to investigate.

<RandomVisitor> says: On 15...Bc6 16.Rae1 there is:

16...Rc8 17.f5 e5 18.Rc1 Kh8 19.d4 gxf5 20.dxe5 Nxe4 21.Rxf5 Nxc3 22.Rxc3 dxe5 (0.04) 21-ply

<Tabanus> says: 16.Rae1 Nd7 17.d4 Nf6 18.f5 Nxe4 19.fxg6 hxg6 20.Nxe4 Bxe4 21.Bh6 (=0.18 F8) wins an exchange.

<William Wallekers> replies to <Tabanus>: <16.Rae1 Nd7 17.d4 Nf6 18.f5 Nxe4 19.fxg6 hxg6 20.Nxe4 Bxe4 21.Bh6 (=0.18 F8) wins an exchange.>

He can play 17 ... Bf6

<calidogg> says: 16. Rae1 Rc8 17. Bb6 Qd7 18. g4!

I think with Rae1, we will dictate the play for the next couple of moves. A semi-force on black, mind you.

<Tabanus> replies to <William Wallekers>: 16.Rae1 Nd7 17.d4 Bf6 18.Rc1 Re8 19.Rf3 d5 20.e5 Bg7...

OhioChessFan: A few questions for discussion per 16. Rae1.

1. Is there some line that the computers are under- or over- estimating? I consider this a reality check, for there's little chance of this move being voted for unless some appreciably better line is found for it.

2. What moves by White or Black would render Rae1 moot? ie, would it still be viable after we played Nd4, etc?

3. Does Rae1 indefinitely burden the b3 Knight with guarding the a pawn?

Tabanus: I'm not too optimistic here. Cannot find anything good after 16.Rae1 Nd7 17.d4 Nf6. The exchange looks bad and may even lose?
Oct-10-06  RandomVisitor: 22-ply Rybka analysis:

(0.07): 16.Rae1 Re8 17.Bb6 Qc8 18.Qf2 Nd7 19.Bd4 Nf6 20.Rc1 Qd7 21.Bb6 Rf8 22.Qe2 Rac8

OhioChessFan: <badbishops> says: I was a Nd4 voter, but now I've changed my vote for f5. I recently chatted with my friend, and International Master Stephen Glinert, our conversations went: Me: " Steve, would you mind looking at this position in 'The World vs. Arno Nickel"

Steve: after analysis, " i kind of like Rae1 or f5"
