 | | OhioChessFan: Grumble grumble grumble. Whew. I have always been able to look at team games as a learning experience. But exactly what has the World Team learned if you can set forth this group of people: Tabanus, imag, RandomVisitor, Skakalec, blue wave, OhioChessFan, DanLanglois, whiteRook48, Ron, Tomlinsky, Sparky123, jepflast, WinKing, lonepsycho, Artar1, Rhedrich, zsoyyd, belgradegambit, hms123, kamalakanta, Waitaka, bigchris, Diocletian, MTuraga, mworld, dakgootje, Check It Out and they are able to persuade only 38% of the other voters? I am having a really hard time with this. And for the most part, the current analysis to pick up the pieces is being done by...the people who actively campaigned against the move selected. Oy vey. Maybe we should look for <another> Knight sac. |
|
| Nov-10-10 | | hms123: <OCF> Again, I have to agree. I believe (hope) that many of us have developed some willingness to trust one another's judgments in the various forms of team games (e.g., World, Black vs White). When we do rely on the judgments of others, it is distressing not to see some participants not giving us the same courtesy. |
|
| Nov-10-10 | | therealbenjinathan: Sorry to bud in, but I agree with you guys.
However, I am not sure it started this game even. The last game was also something of a train wreck. |
|
Nov-10-10
 | | OhioChessFan: The 24 hours would have been a challenge in a normal game. Admittedly, this game is way out of the mainstream. The bizarre engine eval differences, the fluctuating evals after forcing moves, etc have made this even harder to play. I still can't get past that list of voters for Bf1.....it's like a candidate for Governor being endorsed by every major union, banking assocation, Police and Fire Association, Farm Bureau, All newspapers in the state, all city councils in the state, the nutjob lady next door with 120 cats, all the TV and radio stations etc etc etc and the candidate loses 2-1. |
|
Nov-12-10
 | | OhioChessFan: Have I mentioned I can't get past the group of voters on Bf1 and how that didn't parlay into the move played? Here it is again: Tabanus, imag, RandomVisitor, Skakalec, blue wave, OhioChessFan, DanLanglois, whiteRook48, Ron, Tomlinsky, Sparky123, jepflast, WinKing, lonepsycho, Artar1, Rhedrich, zsoyyd, belgradegambit, hms123, kamalakanta, Waitaka, bigchris, Diocletian, MTuraga, mworld, dakgootje, Check It Out It really wasn't all that close when you consider the voters outside the endorsement committee. Ng4 wasn't an awful move. The World has played worse, for sure. And I think the game was heading to a draw regardless. But I can't remember ever seeing the team choose against so many of the leading analysts (Not 100%, but the vast majority) like it did this time. I am just bewildered <why> that happened. And if it can happen once........ Okay. I need to just skip the comments on the game page that discuss it. They just rile me up again. The move was made. Game on. |
|
Nov-14-10
 | | OhioChessFan: Opening odds, all moves, the rest of the game, 10-1 against that kb2 votes against what is the consensus choice of the team. I am beyond sick of it. And that's what happened on the infamous Ng4 and alas, a number of people followed. |

| Nov-14-10 | | crawfb5: <I'm sick of seeing chess analysis in my search for poetry and songs.> Never let it be said I didn't try to do my small part. Here's what I could do on short notice. I included the original lyrics, as I was unsure how well known the Mary Chapin Carpenter song might be in these parts. NAKED TO THE EYE (original)
Been walking these streets, been deciding what's true Been hands in my pockets, coat collar up, thinking `bout you I've been talking to myself, giving fate the third degree I've been eyes on the pavement admitting my part to strangers passing me And I know it isn't fair, but nothing's ever been
Hey when you look at me baby, my god how I feel so good again I don't know where I went wrong, but it isn't right to lie Hey when you look at me baby, my hearts wide open, naked to the eye Now some lovers are apart, but they're never far away I can see her in your eyes, hear her in your voice and I have to turn away Oh what covet is to ache, is what aching is to me
For the arms of a man who knows who I am and where I need to be And if I know what I know, then the lonely can't pretend When you look at me baby, my god how I feel so whole again Is there heaven after all, or just this empty space
That no amount of time, nor comfort in it's hands can ever help me face Which is worse is yet to come, your rebuff or my resign Hey when you look at me baby, I'm helpless as a child, naked to the eye It's like a fever and a spell, unbroken by a sigh
Oh when you look at me baby I'm going nowhere, just naked to the eye Yeah when you look at me baby, everythings there, naked to the eye Hey when you look at me baby, I haven't got a prayer, naked to the eye <MY NAKED KING JUST DIED (parody)Been working these lines, been deciding what's true
Been hands in my pockets, coat collar up, thinking `bout you I've been talking to myself, giving mate the third degree I've been eyes on the mating net admitting my part to strangers passing
me
And I know it isn't fair, but nothing's ever been
Hey when you look at my game, my god how I feel so weak again I don't know where I went wrong, but it isn't right to lie Hey when you look at my game, the board's wide open, my naked king just died Now some pawns are apart, and defenders far away
I can see mate in your eyes, hear it in your voice and I have to turn away Oh what uncover is to check, is what checking is to flee From the threats of a man who knows who I am and where I need to flee And if I know what I know, then the lowly can't pretend When you look at my game, my god how I see the holes around my king again Is there a haven after all, or just this empty space That no amount of time, nor comfort in it's hands can ever help me face Which is worse is yet to come, your refute or my resign Hey when you look at my game, the board's wide open, my naked king just died It's like a fever and a spell, unbroken by a sigh
Oh when you look at my game, the board's wide open, my naked king just died Yeah when you look at my game, the board's wide open, my naked king just died Hey when you look at my game, I haven't got a prayer, my naked king just died> |

| Nov-14-10 | | hms123: <OCF> So far your bet is looking good. I wish I had some insight. |

Nov-14-10
 | | OhioChessFan: Saw Unstoppable last night. Decent movie, nothing too unexpected, barely worth $10, although I am certain it's much better at the theater than it will be on video. The cinematography was by far the best part of the movie. A couple of supporting characters were interesting. Dewey, Ned, and the railroad safety official in particular. Rosario Dawson is very easy on the eyes. Pretty thin plot, and the back story of the 2 main characters' lives falls pretty flat. |

Nov-15-10
 | | OhioChessFan: Thanks to <crawf> for the parody. |
|
| Nov-16-10 | | Bobwhoosta: <OhioChessFan>
I wanted to bring a part of the Kenneth Rogoff page here brother. I am confused as to what you meant by: <It is safe to say that we are saved, at least in part, by what we do.> I brought it here in order to separate it from the ongoing debate on the other page. If you could clarify what you mean (I might already understand what you're getting at...), it would be much appreciated. |
|
Nov-16-10
 | | OhioChessFan: A suggested alternative to the Rogoff page for religious discussion: Pastor As for what I meant, very simply, a person must do things to be saved. You may call those things "works" if you wish. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Ohio> what's your take on the present mood of the Team? Isn't it a little early to be talking like the position is already drawn, given that almost every piece is still on the board? |
|
Nov-17-10
 | | OhioChessFan: <what's your take on the present mood of the Team?> Best analysts: How can we work ourselves to exhaustion for The World Team and not be recognized for it? This is only the <5th> game we've led the way, boys and girls. Our record is pretty good, isn't it? Haven't you figured out who to listen to yet? kb2: The fact I never agree with the consensus vote shows I am on a higher plane of understanding than everyone else. :) The fact The World Team has done so well when disagreeing with me 99% of the time proves I know more than them. :) I told you it was a draw. :) But it would be very exciting to make her take a perpetual. :) Wouldn't that be pretty? :) Unwashed masses: Well, the Knight sac looked exciting. It worked last week against my dad. Uhhh, anyone got any ideas on our next move? |
|
Nov-17-10
 | | OhioChessFan: <Isn't it a little early to be talking like the position is already drawn, given that almost every piece is still on the board?> No. But stranger things have happened. Shulman made a worse move to lose than what it would take for Pogo to lose this. |
|
| Nov-17-10 | | playground player: <OhioChessFan> Please visit my brand-new blog--see my forum page for a link. Do you play chess on Pogo? I used to, but I gave it up because it drove me crazy when the Pogo computer would arbitrarily decide that I was the loser in a game that I had just won, or was winning easily. Like, your knight forks the other guy's king and queen, and suddenly there's a message from the Pogo computer, "Sorry, you lost..." Aaaaghhh! |
|
Nov-18-10
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Aha thanks for that trademark sardonic byline on the "Team Dynamic." I sensed something similar but I only check in once in a while out of curiosity. I still hope you guys find a way to win- maybe she will blunder, I doubt she's any better than <Shulman>. It is a little odd that people don't know the history of the games here and which analysts are best to listen to. But I think lots of people come in "fresh" and aren't even aware that the "Team" has played any games before, let alone has an undefeated record against some of the best Correspondence players in the world. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <pp> this site is the only place I play chess via the team games. I really haven't played in 30 years. |
|
| Nov-18-10 | | hms123: <OCF>
<this site is the only place I play chess via the team games. I really haven't played in 30 years.> One more thing we pretty much have in common. (I have recently played a couple of small team games on another site.) |
|
Nov-19-10
 | | OhioChessFan: I see no reason to speculate on the game page, but I think someone engineered the tie vote for some odd sort of kicks. |
|
| Nov-19-10 | | hms123: <OCF> I have to agree. It was probably somewhat "innocent"--i.e., not meant to be malicious, but still not ok. I do teach statistics, so I have to add that the probability of tie under the conditions of a very close vote means that there was still some element of luck. Imagine that two or three people were trying independently to engineer a tie vote. They would have been working at cross purposes so the tie might have been a coin flip itself. |
|
| Nov-19-10 | | Nightranger: < OhioChessFan: ... I thought the same thing. And I sure would have liked to have had <Thorsson> input on our 22nd, 25th and 30th move. > Absolutely. AND/OR Honza. I was reviewing some of the chatter from the two GMAN games. A lot of MIA's here. I think <Artar1> is still lurking in the wings, on silent running. I haven't seen anything from him this game, probably from the original dust up. I rank his analysis up there too. I'm not *usually* so vocal (according to my less than 1000 posts on this site). It might be time to follow the "First Ones" that headed out "beyond the rim." (Little B5 reference there) |
|
| Nov-19-10 | | crawfb5: <Nightranger: It might be time to follow the "First Ones" that headed out "beyond the rim." (Little B5 reference there)> Once the avalanche has started, it is too late for the pebbles to vote. |
|
| Nov-20-10 | | Nightranger: < crawfb5: <Nightranger: It might be time to follow the "First Ones" that headed out "beyond the rim." (Little B5 reference there)>
Once the avalanche has started, it is too late for the pebbles to vote. > Excellent. I always did appreciate that line. (Another "First Ones" reference too) |
|
Nov-20-10
 | | OhioChessFan: There may be some 40 ply improvement on Rybka's 0.00 evals. I suspect if <imag> finds it, the voters will ignore him. I am really......something.....about it. |
