 | | OhioChessFan: <Tabanus> if you read the last few pages of this forum, you'll see my opinion of you. Everyone has their own list of who carries weight in team games, and you, imag, and Artar head mine. There's a few others who really have my attention but I never seem to agree with them, like Ajile. A few pop in from time to time and have great input but not on a consistent basis, like Honza. Anyway, I am thouroughly hacked off at the team for their move choices this game, and in particular for <why> they chose those moves. However, that's life. It's done. I didn't put in the time that you did on the moves I think we unwisely failed to vote for. So I expect the frustration level is even greater for you than me. But don't ruin years of your well crafted reputation by some ill-advised parting shots. I think if you head over to the Rogoff page you'll see I have few qualms about calling a spade a spade, but I think I do know when I've gone too far. I think you've gone too far and need to accept what's happened. As far as leaving Chessgames, the game of chess itself is still there, in all its magnificence, completely above the fray of one game. And the joys found therein are still waiting to be discovered. Whatever you may decide to do, I've respected and learned from you and wish you well. |

by Governing Council of Charlestown, Massachusetts
The Holy God having by a long and Continual Series of his Afflictive dispensations in and by the present Warr with the Heathen Natives of this land, written and brought to pass bitter things against his own Covenant people in this wilderness, yet so that we evidently discern that in the midst of his judgements he hath remembered mercy, having remembered his Footstool in the day of his sore displeasure against us for our sins, with many singular Intimations of his Fatherly Compassion, and regard; reserving many of our Towns from Desolation Threatened, and attempted by the Enemy, and giving us especially of late with many of our Confederates many signal Advantages against them, without such Disadvantage to ourselves as formerly we have been sensible of, if it be the Lord's mercy that we are not consumed, It certainly bespeaks our positive Thankfulness, when our Enemies are in any measure disappointed or destroyed; and fearing the Lord should take notice under so many Intimations of his returning mercy, we should be found an Insensible people, as not standing before Him with Thanksgiving, as well as lading him with our Complaints in the time of pressing Afflictions: The Council has thought meet to appoint and set apart the 29th day of this instant June, as a day of Solemn Thanksgiving and praise to God for such his Goodness and Favour, many Particulars of which mercy might be Instanced, but we doubt not those who are sensible of God's Afflictions, have been as diligent to espy him returning to us; and that the Lord may behold us as a People offering Praise and thereby glorifying Him; the Council doth commend it to the Respective Ministers, Elders and people of this Jurisdiction; Solemnly and seriously to keep the same Beseeching that being persuaded by the mercies of God we may all, even this whole people offer up our bodies and souls as a living and acceptable Service unto God by Jesus Christ. |

| Nov-25-10 | | AgentRgent: OCF, I was working on a little BOC/CG.com tribute with <"Don't Fear the Rybka">, but I just don't have the dedication for it... |

 | | OhioChessFan: <Agent> I hear you. I do parodies when I feel like it and when I know it'll be easy. I haven't really anguished over one yet. I had 2 that I got stuck on one line, but the rest were mostly finished in less than half an hour. Send yourself an email with "Don't Fear the Rybka" in the subject line, and maybe someday in the future you'll be inspired to work it out. I did one today, "I'm Your Captain" that has been sitting in my mailbox a month. I tried it today and finished in 10 minutes. |

| Nov-29-10 | | morfishine: <OhioChessFan> Thank you for the nomination! I'd like your opinion on chess software; My chess engine, rated at ~2200 is a little slow and awkward for in-depth analysis; (Although its done quite well in picking moves and busting lines). I definitely need an upgrade (so I can weed out my nonsensical comments easier!) Any help would be much appreciated and thanks again |

 | | OhioChessFan: I must decline offering opinions on software. I have a slow computer and outdated software, Fritz10, which don't get me much more than blunderchecking. I've made a few suggestions this game that weren't good ideas, though no blunders yet, when I had my Fritz running on something else. The latest Rybka is always a safe choice. Some of the unrealistically high evals Fritz and Hiarcs are giving this position show how much better Rybka is. |
|
| Dec-01-10 | | morfishine: <OhioChessFan> Appreciate it; I don't put much faith in evals anyways; I pretty much know whats needed; I'm stuck with not wanting to overload my home computer since my wife is so busy with work on our PC. Looks like I'll need to get another computer; meanwhile, I'll slog along with my 2200-rated, 14-year old chess computer; Its actually, pretty accurate, and given enough time, finds the best move. Thanks again!, I've followed your posts; Nothing I've read seems totally outlandish; Stick with it; Most great lines are just changing the move order, I've found; makes a huge difference; (A lot of trial and error involved, if we can find the time) |

| Dec-13-10 | | cormier: <my first tought was: gee that's the first time someone's teaching to r boss ... <then it came to me he was testing her spirit <and also teaching the apostles when he kept a little-silence>>> _____________________________ Mt 15:21 The Faith of a Canaanite Woman <21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. <22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.” <23 Jesus did not answer a word. <So his disciples came to him and urged him, <“Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”>>>>>
<24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” <25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. <26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” <[27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”] <28 Then Jesus said to her, <“Woman, you have great faith! <Your request is granted.” <And her daughter was healed at that moment.>>>>> > > > ..... tks l |

 | | OhioChessFan: <cormier> yes indeed, he was testing her. When you consider the culture of the time, it was a fairly brassy move on her part to even approach Jesus, since women were expected to be seen and not heard. And I expect the apostles did learn something there. |

| Dec-13-10 | | hms123: <OCF> For a law and order kind of guy, you did a good job with <Lawless>. Congratulations! |
|
Dec-13-10
 | | OhioChessFan: I tried Crook, Larceny, Convict, Konvict, Jail. Almost quit at that, when the name Lawless just popped in my head. Once a player came up, I knew I had it. |
|
| Dec-13-10 | | WinKing: Nice one <OCF> on Lawless. I think this calls for a song. For all the criminals out there maybe 'Jailhouse Rock'. :) |
