<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Funny, isn't it? As soon as anyone invokes "diversity," you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be followed by a demand for uniformity of thought, or else.

Dec-24-10  playground player: <Ohio Chess Fan> Merry Christmas to you--and thanks for the monumental patience you display by enduring arguments from persons whose positions are irretrievably wrong.

There's only one thing worse than being lectured on what the Bible teaches by someone who doesn't believe in the Bible: and that's when he tries to tell you what the Bible should teach.

OhioChessFan: My patience is one of my weak points. However, I am rather quick to let bygones be bygones. FWIW, those who disagree with me think I am irretrievably wrong. In any case, one side or the other is irretrievably wrong.

OhioChessFan: Merry Christmas to all. To chancho, a boxed set of all music ever recorded. To Travis, a fare from a certain gorgeous blonde. To Wordfunph, 2800 for Wesley in 2011. To twinlark, my thanks for trying to keep my baser instincts in check. To hms, an engine setup that puts RV to shame. To talisman, a triple crown for Theriot. To Winking,a new QB for the Buckeyes next year. To ktown, a World game vs. Carlsen next year. To pp, a guest host in Larry King's old spot. To CIO, refereeing an MMA match on ESPN.
Dec-24-10  hms123: <OCF> Thanks--that sounds like the perfect present.
Dec-24-10  therealbenjinathan: <OCF> I am sorry that you are disappointed in my support for <jfq>.

Let me explain.

I think you make three points.

First that she is the <cg> self appointed censor. I take a different tack. The site is not a free speech site. There are rules which are set out to the right of me as I type. I think the rules are there to ensure that all discussions at the site occur within certain bounds. Those bounds are meant to ensure that members of the site (especially) are not turned off by the discussion so that they leave. They also exist so that the site is welcoming to people of all sorts. In my view ensuring that the rules are complied with is not censorship; it is making sure that my contractual rights are fulfilled.

I understand that views may differ as to whether the post in question violated the guidelines. My best friend is gay; I work with a few terrific women in decades long same sex relationships;my wife plays women's hockey and as a result of these things I know many gay people, most of whom are just wonderful people (even if sinners in your eyes). The post in question really hurt me. I can accept a post like that in the real world, but this is supposed to be a community and here I have a hard time with it.

The second point is that I have not complained about attacks on Christians. True. I am not sure I have read any such attacks, partly because I hardly go to the Rogoff page any longer. But if see some I will complain. If you alert me to any that violate the guidelines I will support your complaints. I don't think there is any room for any of that here.

I have complained about anti Jewish statements on the site, but except for one war on the Fischer page these complaints fell on deaf ears.

By the way, the fact that attacks on Christians in Iraq are treated here and generally as somehow normal makes me sick.

There was a third point but I have gone on too long already.

My goal is and has been to try to have this be a place where everyone is welcome. Some interferences with that goal hit closer to home than others, but I appreciate you pointing out that I could be more consistently vigilant. I will try. However, if the site becomes a "free speech" zone then I will have to leave-you have seen the real me-I just cannot participate or tolerate and keep employed.

<OCF> I truly wish you a Merry Christmas. Best wishes,b

  jessicafischerqueen: <Ohio>

First, merry Christmas to you.

Second, I changed my mind. If I get the urge to violently disagree with any posts in the future, to the point where I think something has "to be done" about it, I'm giving up on the "call for a censor" idea.

Instead, I'll either keep my counsel or argue publicly against the notion I may object to.

I know for a fact that <acirce> holds perceived anti-gay views to be as objectionable as I do- and yet he agreed with your criticism of my approach to such perceived problems.

So- if it's good enough for <acirce> it's good enough for me.

I need to get more practice developing a thicker skin- also, I enjoy the people around here- you for example- too much to take such extreme actions that interfere with friendships.

Nothing wrong with being diametrically opposed on certain issues.

Anyways, thanks for your candor, as always.

OhioChessFan: <TheRealDeal> thanks for your thoughts. I'll respond, maybe in a day or three. <Jess> I knew you'd ummmmmmm something.....curses....isn't there a good word for a positive development that doesn't sound like capitulate, give up, come to your senses.....anyway, I knew there'd be some <thing> on your part. I almost posted that in response to benji and would have been quite glad for you to find it before your post. At that, I might have more to say later but to all Merry Christmas and good night.

jessicafischerqueen: <Ohio> may sugar plums dance then- I have to say <Neils'> post about "proportionality" was convincing as well.

A good watchword to keep in mind, it seems.

Dec-25-10  achieve: <J> Glad I could contribute in a positive way for you, and certainly you're right, yet exactly the person giving the advice, me, is in a constant "struggle" with it, in efforts to improve without smothering and bottling up, and learning to recognize the "danger areas", and be watchful, and remain so, for the pauses you can slip in and insert to sit back and let the primary fierce emotion - which can be very much influenced- and inflated- by past events - subside for a moment. Hence taking a step back and getting your bow-and-arrows straight before unleashing, is a necessity. But even then we will all experience trespassing even the fringe of decent-undecent conduct on a site like this differently.

Merry Christmas <Ohio>, and to all who visit here!
