<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Oct-26-06  RandomVisitor: Some analysis of 20...Ne5 has now been posted on my forum.
Oct-26-06  twinlark:

<Ohio> In addition to RV's analysis, here's a bit of Shredder's thoughts (17 ply only) you asked for, in case it's helpful:

1. (0.66): 21.Qh6 d5 22.Rae1 Bf8 23.Qh3 Qd6

2. (0.66): 21.Qe3 Bf6

3. (0.47): 21.Ra1-c1

4. (0.42): 21.Rae1 Bf8 22.Nxc6 bxc6 23.Ne4 Bg7 24.f6 Bf8 25.Qc3 Rac8 26.Kh1 d5

Oct-26-06  Dionyseus: Here's some Deep Position Analysis with Rybka:
20. Nd4 Ne5 21. Qe3
Rab8 22. Rae1 Bh4 23. Qh6 Be7 24. Qh3 Qc8 25. Re2 Bg5 26. b3 and in this position Rybka says white is up by +0.58 at depth 18. Deep Shredder 10 says +2.05 at depth 18. :

OhioChessFan: I think Rybka's Rook moves are way off base. I definitely like the 21. Qe3 lines better. If GMAN plays 20...Ne5, he must have something better than the computers are finding.

Domdaniel: Thanks, Ohio, I got your message. Just to check -- is this only if he moves today, or would you prefer to take a break now anyway, even if he gives us another 24 hrs?

Or will we wait and see what happens in an hour and a bit? (If AN moves, you take a break; if AN does not move, break to be decided later?)

Twinlark is so much better at this. I'm trying to move people around like they're so many pawns...

Ohio, it's time to sacrifice you, old friend, but you die in a noble cause...

OhioChessFan: A question for discussion. Why do Shredder and Rybka like 20...Ne5 21. Qe3 and the humans don't?

Rab8 22. Rae1 Bh4 23. Qh6 Be7 24. Qh3 Qc8 25. Re2 Bg5 26. b3>
what is the idea behind 21..Rb8 to counter Nxc6?

Honza Cervenka: After GMAN's 20...Ne5 21.h3 would be quite funny echo of Monad trap's Bb6 played only after Qd7. Real chess of 22nd century...:-D

kwgurge: <Ohio> Fritz 9 after 48 hours reaching 19/19 likes Ne5 as its first choice for black and gives the following:

20...Ne5 21.Rae1 Rac8 22.Qh6 Bf8 23.Qh3 d5 24.Re3 Bg7 25.Qh4 (+1.05).

I haven't looked at this yet, just reporting what Fritz 9 says.

OhioChessFan: I have to conclude the computers like Qe3 because they are at a loss what to do to develop the Rooks.

Domdaniel: I think you could be right, Ohio. But this problem is everywhere. In almost every long line of analysis I've seen there are 'mysterious' engine moves with no discernible logic behind them - but the lines as a whole look plausible, and we fall into the trap of regarding them as Working Main Lines, or whatever.

Humans have fantasies about The King; engines do this kind of thing instead. In dreams, in dreams ...

That would be nice. I'm afraid that 22nd century chess will boast a long and proud history - all the way back to the original foundational Fischer-Karpov match of 2007.

The Chancellor sacrifice in the k9 variation of the Neo-GrobDragon will be all the rage in post-cyberspace, with zillions of terabytes of new data automatically downloaded into every good citizen's memory implants...

OhioChessFan: <Thorsson> says: Well there are two obvious tries: 21.h3 to transpose back to 20.h3, or 21.b4!? (IMO stronger played immediately) as in the h3 lines (but without h3 of course).
Oct-28-06  Thorsson: I know my engines don't come up with b4, but when thrust open them they don't seem to think it's too bad.

We can also play Rab1 first, preoaring b4, but that seems slower and why else would teh R go to b1 than to sit behind the b-push?

Honza Cervenka: It seems to be that after 20...Ne5 we have plenty of quite good continuations, which is the effect of the fact that 20...Ne5 contains no direct tactical threat giving us free hands to act. I guess that we are going to see 20...Bf8 after all.

Domdaniel: Hey, Ohio - did you know you have a doppelganger? Check out #1867 (of 1868) on The World roster...

And rest easy as regards forumming. It's sorted, I think.

  Domdaniel: Hi, Ohio.
I think a 4th mainline forum (after ...Ne5) is maybe the best idea. <mack> is already covering 21...h5 etc.

But those 'other' 22nd moves after ...Ne5 are probably worth doing. For example, 22.fxg6 might be an option. Not a good one, but that never stopped us before.

I'll put you down for 21...Ne5 22.Others - if that's OK.

You might even suddenly find yourself in the middle of a brand new Steinitz-RookFile mainline...

OhioChessFan: I am hosting analysis of all other lines after 21.Qf4 Ne5 – ie other 22nd moves for us, apart from 22.Nxc6, 22.Qg3 and 22.Ne4. Is there anything worth looking at, ie, fxg5?
Oct-30-06  weisyschwarz: <OhioChessFan>, what about 22.Rac1 or 22.Rae1 as our move?
Oct-30-06
Premium Chessgames Member
OhioChessFan: I do know the computer engines have been aching for Rae1 for a few moves now. But we have to attack something or defend the d pawn for the forseeable future.

  Domdaniel: Hi, Ohio
I'm keeping you down for the '22.Others' forum - 22.Rad1 has some early votes, so something might emerge there...

That okay?

As you can see, twinlark is back, but he asked me to go on carrying the forum can a little longer. G-d knows why.
