<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Jan-31-11  morfishine: <OCF> Per your post after POGO's statement. The annotation after <4.g3> should read: "4.g3? After a series of brilliant moves, white throws the win away"
Feb-03-11  Lennonfan: <OCF> in my haste i labelled you along with the same people who were attacking me,which apart from <domdaniel>and <jfq>it had nothing to do with you..<open defence>and< achieve> just decided to join in,which in a way i welcomed as they played follow the simple leader..so i apologise to you and also<chancho>for associating you with a bunch of idiotic wannabe venomous intellectualls who can only resort to name calling, offensive yet amusing "nicknames",and insulting my intelligence with silly riddles and cliches, yet wont take me up on anything chess!....i have no argument with you personally, hope you accept my apology.? I actually enjoyed your discussion with <bobwhoosta>and others regarding creation, the bible, and evolution the other wk,and can see both points of view...all the best <lennonfan>

OhioChessFan: It is very nice you can try to engage me in reasoned discussion. If you eliminated the words "idiotic" and "venomous", your post wouldn't lose any impact, would it? And yet the same points would have been brought forth. It wasn't necessary to apologize to me, since I really wasn't offended. But that is okay and I am grateful in any case for your apology.
Feb-03-11  chesstoplay: I left a post for Honza at his forum.

I'm sure he is frustrated with the machine voting against Aneta.

I'll hang in there until she passes 7,000 and then I'll stop.

Thanks for helping so much!!

Feb-03-11  morfishine: <Ohiochessfan> <You sure know how to hurt a guy>. I noticed you were not on this list (I was looking for real old timers like <Imag> & <Yourang> and they are not on this list). He knows you are one of the top-tier analysts and forgive me, I noticed he complimented you in the past. Frankly, I think his point was to acknowledge those lesser-tier members. You are above us and really don't belong on this list. Those are my thoughts, Morf

OhioChessFan: Tabanus 100% knows I was having fun. <imag> and <YouRang> were on a previous list on page 1051. There were 26 on the first list and another 132 on the next list. I mentioned 2 more and think <chesstoplay> is also MIA.

I really am not into false modesty and can say with complete objectivity I am not a top tier analyst. I don't have a rating and suspect if I did we might be talking 1400. I am prone to horrible blunders-the kind I'd tip my King over if I played OTB- as anyone who's been in a noncomputer team game with me knows. I am hopeless in the middle game, especially a wide open position with many tactics available. I even miss 1 or 2 Mondays a year on puzzle of the day. However, with an engine blunder checking, I do have some skills to help a team-particularly intuition, positional sense and the pre-end game.

Feb-03-11  morfishine: <OhioChessFan> Understood, but don't underestimate yourself; You are an excellent engine-driver despite what you feel about your OTB skills
Feb-04-11  hms123: <OCF> Thanks for including me at the World game. I do appreciate it.
Feb-06-11  morfishine: <OCF> Good morning! I would appreciate your opinion on an idea I had:

The World vs N Pogonina, 2010

Please respond at my forum and if you like football, I hope you enjoy the Super Bowl! Thanks, Morf

Feb-10-11  morfishine: In a past post you related to me, with some apparent frustration, the disconnect between the "old timers" and the "newbies". I stumbled across a recent post reiterating the same. Is it asking too much for the "oldies" to communicate with the newcomers?

I have reached out to numerous "oldies" with little response. While <Tabanus> has been kind enough to respond (as well as a few others) most have not. What are we "newcomers" to do without a little guidance? I really don't even know who these "oldies" are for the most part.

If one were to state "morf, stop all the nonsense kbitzing, you are hurting the team" I'd do it. If one were to state "morf, you are new, so you are limited to 3 diagrams the whole game" I'd do that. If one were state "morf, run all your ideas by me first" I'd do that. But what do I got? Nothing...and so I keep on posting.

Do you understand where I'm coming from? I want to help. I asked you for your opinion that essentially relegates me to a very subordinated role with little kbitzing, because I thought it was best for the team. But what did I get? Nothing

Communication is two-ways. If the oldies won't engage the newcomers, then the newcomers will just try to do what they want without any guidance.

I respect your opinion and I hope you understand the point of this post. Morf

I don't mean to reference you, for you are trying to get things straightened out for the next game and for that I apologize.

<I have reached out to numerous "oldies" with little response. While <Tabanus> has been kind enough to respond (as well as a few others) most have not. What are we "newcomers" to do without a little guidance? I really don't even know who these "oldies" are for the most part.>

Here's a Reader's Digest response:
In terms of the Pogo game, the reaching out is too late. Try working this hard for 5 games and seeing people not go along with the program and you might get an idea of the frustration. And while you are trying, it's very obvious most people simply don't care. <imag> <Tabanus> and I about did headstands warning the team not to choose the line that was played. And nobody cared. We might as well have howled at the moon.

<If one were to state "morf, stop all the nonsense kbitzing, you are hurting the team" I'd do it. If one were to state "morf, you are new, so you are limited to 3 diagrams the whole game" I'd do that. If one were state "morf, run all your ideas by me first" I'd do that. But what do I got? Nothing...and so I keep on posting.>

The posting was fine. Your posts were clearly better than the average kibitzer. Of course you should have kept on posting. The problem was for the first 20 some moves of the game the senior analysts were routinely ignored. It's not like you need to take that personally. The people who don't post but just vote are the ones that antagonize me the most.

<Do you understand where I'm coming from? I want to help. I asked you for your opinion that essentially relegates me to a very subordinated role with little kbitzing, because I thought it was best for the team. But what did I get? Nothing>

I couldn't answer that off the top of my head. I will make this quick response and say all the planning in the world apparently <doesn't matter> because we will have a large group of newbies next game who simply won't care. And we will have some of the same voters who didn't care this game or the last or the last or the last.......and won't care the next.

<Communication is two-ways. If the oldies won't engage the newcomers, then the newcomers will just try to do what they want without any guidance. >

I think the oldies were routinely ignored this game. This game was by far the worst in that regard. I recognize part of the problem was so much of the old crowd left after the <PZ> uproar. I was stunned people couldn't even be bothered to use the Engine Room. That's been part of the planning for how long now and it was lightly used and pretty much abandoned halfway through the game.

<I respect your opinion and I hope you understand the point of this post. >

I certainly do. You care about what's going on. The problem is that large crowd who doesn't. I am very discouraged about the future when I think all the efforts you are making now will be ignored.

Feb-11-11  morfishine: <OhioChessFan>...<I want to be serious/constructive in my response...> Perhaps I shouldn't take things here so seriously and simply keep chess where it belongs as a "Dilettante". My work/occupation involves streamlining information, workflow, etc. and I've let that spill over here when I shouldn't have bothered.

We mustn't lose the enjoyment aspect that chess offers. :) Morf

Feb-13-11  morfishine: <I don't mean to reference you, for you are trying to get things straightened out for the next game and for that I apologize.>

I very much appreciate the thoughtful response. You've always been up-front with me: “ragging-me” when I'm wrong and giving me credit when I'm right or close to right. Thats the way I like to treat people and want to be treated. There's no need for you to apologize for anything.

That’s a fascinating response from Reader’s Digest and how the “oldies” were routinely ignored. Do you think it was a case of the regular voters just ignoring the suggested moves or was there another “senior-type” member or members undermining the concrete analysis?...or both? Since I didn’t enter until turn 9, the origins of this event remain murky to me. If one wanted to avoid this situation going forward, the origin would need to be determined.

I remember your frustration with the engine room process. Once I understood what they were intended for, like you said, they were pretty much abandoned. (I would like to add that the forum structure employed this game is very good. The only suggestion I have is to create a sub-forum for short-term improvements working under ER1. Other than that, the structure is great if everybody would use them.)

<The problem is that large crowd who doesn't. I am very discouraged about the future when I think all the efforts you are making now will be ignored.>

What makes this game different from the previous games?...the short format?...a much larger voting-base?...I’m curious as to how this game got so out-of-control since the previous games seem to have been conducted in a much more placid atmosphere. In other words, look at the previous games, find out why they were much smoother affairs and use that as a framework for future games.

Again, thank you for your response. There are a number of issues that could be addressed. There is no one solution. However if each area of concern is improved at least a little, then the game will improve on the whole. Try not to get too discouraged. Chess is here for our enjoyment and is not meant to be endured.

Respectfully, Morf

Feb-13-11  cormier: Sir 15:15-20

If you choose you can keep the commandments, they will save you; if you trust in God, you too shall live;
he has set before you fire and water
to whichever you choose, stretch forth your hand.
Before man are life and death, good and evil,
whichever he chooses shall be given him.
Immense is the wisdom of the Lord;
he is mighty in power, and all-seeing.
The eyes of God are on those who fear him;
he understands man’s every deed.
No one does he command to act unjustly,
to none does he give license to sin.

Feb-14-11  cro777: <OhioChessFan> You are right. This Team has a history. I am a new member, but I have carefully analysed all the previous WT games. I would never start a discussion about pre-game opening preparation without a thorough analysis of very valuable ideas concerning the openings in previous games.

We cannot avoid the damnation of the voting chess, but may, at least slightly, improve the things by a better organization and more team's cohesion. And more respect for senior members, of course.

Well, everyone's humor must be a little up now, with GM So qualifying for the World Blitz Chess Championship.

I'm usually around the site reading in players' pages and chessforums, so I know some people through their posts, too. If I may say, humor is something most of us Filipinos possess in abundance.

But don't take my word for it. :)

  jessicafischerqueen: Hey hey-

Very well said on your recent brace of posts over at the admin page.

You struck a good balance between scolding and respect.

Unlike my previous 20 posts there that were - well basically hysteria I suppose.

At any rate thanks for speaking up like that.

You carry "weight" around the site because you don't complain all the time (unlike some- such as the writer of this post here).

You are not the "Ohio who cried wolf".

Feb-19-11  cormier: <jessicafischerqueen> i confirm ... <OhioChessFan> can stand-up and hold-on to his Gracious beleive(faith) .... he's got great lot(part) of God in him ..... by, tks G
