| Feb-28-11 | | hms123: <OCF> I am almost finished with a decent draft (at least I think so) of the Chess Life article about the World Team. I would very much like to include about four lines from one of your song parodies. Do you have a favorite or two to suggest? If not, I will be left to choose something myself. That could lead to disaster. :-) Feel free to post some choices (or just your favorite) at my place. Thanks--hms |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Ohio> I'm guessing you noticed the admins are back on "daily duty" in their forum. Possibly they just ate too much holiday turkey and needed time to recover? |
|
| Mar-01-11 | | hms123: <OCF> Thanks for the suggestions, and for the search tip. I did a search on you but had to scroll through all sorts of comments to find the <tunes>. Now I can take a closer look. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <Jess> probably some real life stuff going on. I still think it should be de rigeur to put in an appearance every day. |
|
| Mar-01-11 | | hms123: <OCF> I went with Pinball Wizard for now. It has all the elements and ties in with the rest of the article. |

 | | OhioChessFan: Sounds good. I thought that was probably the most defining example of the parodies, and one of the best known songs. |
|
| Mar-05-11 | | playground player: <OCF> Just for the novelty of posting some chess for a change, I've posted a recent game between me and <cormier> on my forum. We'd be very interested in your comments and analysis. |

| Mar-07-11 | | playground player: <OCF> "Fool" is surely too harsh a term. Certainly something gentler could be used... like dipstick, pillock, idiot, jidrool, imbecile, etc. |

| Mar-17-11 | | cormier: Everything comes from Scripture. Aristotle and Shakespeare knew the Word of God as well as the other men mentioned who made quotes. Listen to Job, the oldest book in the Holy Bible.
Job 31:24-
If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence; If I beheld the sun when it shines, or the moon walking in brightness;' A nd my heart has been secretly enticed, or my mouth has kissed my hand: This also were an iniquity to be punished by the Judge: for I should have denied the God that is above. If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him; Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse on his soul. If men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! We cannot be satisfied. The stranger did ot lodge in the street, but I opened my doors to the traveler. If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom: Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door? Oh, that One would hear me! Behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book. Surely, I would take it upon my shoulder and bind it as a crown to me. <I would declare unto him the number of my steps, <as a prince would I go near unto him.>> If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain; If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life: Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended."
Get you a Concordance (Strong's) and research "gold" and you will see where it came from. Job, King Solomon, King David, Isaiah, Jeremiah will all tell you "all that glitters is not gold." The Holy Bible from Genesis to Revelation is all about Jesus the Christ and Christ tells you "all that glitters is not gold." How many times did Christ Jesus say, "do not be deceived?" Almost as many times as Christ said, "do not fear," which virtually means the same "all that glitters is not gold." Satan was created as a beautiful, angel of light, glowing and glittering brightly, but "all that glitters is not gold." <origins> |

| Mar-22-11 | | Deus Ex Alekhina: I doubt if my non-belief arises from rebellion because I have no reason to rebel against something that doesn't exist. I don't believe in UFO's, does that make me a rebel? Hardly. The article mentioned refers to "design". Couldn't that apply to "survival of the fittest" and "evolution"? Evidence of evolution is all around us - compare your arms to your legs - clearly "man" evolved from a four legged creature. Our arms were at one time long ago used as legs until we learned to walk upright; our legs evolved into larger stronger appendages & our arms and fingers adapted to the use of crude "tools". Right now somewhere remote, there is a mosquito biting a deer or a mouse & injecting germs or viruses that cause death - is there a higher reason for that? Nope. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <I doubt if my non-belief arises from rebellion because I have no reason to rebel against something that doesn't exist. > I've had someone tell me that hundreds of times. I don't believe them either. <I don't believe in UFO's, does that make me a rebel? Hardly. > It makes you someone who has some expectation of evidence before you'll believe in them. <The article mentioned refers to "design". Couldn't that apply to "survival of the fittest" and "evolution"? > A series of random mutations creates an ongoing work of orderly progress? Come on. <Evidence of evolution is all around us - compare your arms to your legs - clearly "man" evolved from a four legged creature. > "Clearly" usually means "I don't want to be bothered with proof for an assertion so I will just assume it's true." <Our arms were at one time long ago used as legs until we learned to walk upright; our legs evolved into larger stronger appendages & our arms and fingers adapted to the use of crude "tools".> Your evidence for that is?
< Right now somewhere remote, there is a mosquito biting a deer or a mouse & injecting germs or viruses that cause death - is there a higher reason for that? Nope.> I don't know. |

| Mar-23-11 | | playground player: <Ohio Chess Fan> You mean there's still somebody out there who believes in Evolution? Really, I don't buy atheists' profession of unbelief. You don't campaign against Someone and write books against Someone you don't believe exists. They act more like they're trying to wish God out of existence. Which leaves us with...? Their proposed substitutes for God don't bear thinking of. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <You mean there's still somebody out there who believes in Evolution?> I sort of lean toward the view that all the laymen think all the scientists believe in Evolution. <Really, I don't buy atheists' profession of unbelief. You don't campaign against Someone and write books against Someone you don't believe exists.> I agree. There are Christian chat rooms on AOL that hold 36 people and routinely have 30 unbelievers in them railing against God. <They act more like they're trying to wish God out of existence.> An odd way to assuage one's guilt, but I agree.
<Which leaves us with...? Their proposed substitutes for God don't bear thinking of.> I wonder how people deal with life thinking this is all there is. |

| Mar-23-11 | | Deus Ex Alekhina: Chimps and apes share 98% of human DNA. Fact. Of what purpose are human toes? Or how about toenails? Serve any purpose whatsoever? Did toenails and fingernails evolve from claws? What about our canine teeth - human teeth longer and sharper than the others, possibly evolved from fangs long ago when we galloped about on all fours and needed teeth to hold and kill our prey. Is the story of Adam and Eve true? Is the earth really less than 7000 years old? Darwin's Finches - he found 14 different types of finches based upon specialization - mostly their beaks were shaped differently to obtain different types of food. They are not called Noah's Finches, but Darwin's finches. Noah was aboard his ark for over a year, he must have been growing alot of eucalyptus and bamboo to feed pandas & koalas, and those pandas & koalas must have carried a supply of it with them when they got off of the ark to travel thousands of miles to Asia.
No of course I don't think of any god at all or how to wish him out of existence because I know that life is a series of random events determined by chance. Altho Darwin, Copernicus, Galileo, etc, were not atheists I doubt that they should be called "fools", as you christians suggest. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <Chimps and apes share 98% of human DNA. Fact.> And that means what, exactly? What if we shared 99%? 97%? 92%? Is there some number whereby whatever conclusion you draw would change? If not, then this is just a silly debate point. <Of what purpose are human toes? Or how about toenails? Serve any purpose whatsoever? Did toenails and fingernails evolve from claws? > I don't know. I don't know. Yes. No.
<What about our canine teeth - human teeth longer and sharper than the others, possibly evolved from fangs long ago when we galloped about on all fours and needed teeth to hold and kill our prey.> Possibly monkeys will fly out of your butt.
< Is the story of Adam and Eve true? > Yes.
<Is the earth really less than 7000 years old? > Probably. I think it could be up to 10,000 or so.
<Darwin's Finches - he found 14 different types of finches based upon specialization - mostly their beaks were shaped differently to obtain different types of food. They are not called Noah's Finches, but Darwin's finches.> I guess I can live with that.
< Noah was aboard his ark for over a year, he must have been growing alot of eucalyptus and bamboo to feed pandas & koalas, and those pandas & koalas must have carried a supply of it with them when they got off of the ark to travel thousands of miles to Asia.> They weren't dormant on the ark? They couldn't eat along the way to Asia? < No of course I don't think of any god at all or how to wish him out of existence because I know that life is a series of random events determined by chance.> Yeah, and a series of explosions in a junkyard will cause a Rolls Royce to appear eventually. < Altho Darwin, Copernicus, Galileo, etc, were not atheists I doubt that they should be called "fools", as you christians suggest.> You're entitled to your opinion. |
