<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

WannaBe: The game starts 8th, Nov. at 6AM Eastern time. If you/<chessmoron> want to close the prediction at midnight, it's up to you.

I think it is 'brave' that people are posting predictions, without knowning the drawing of the colours...

The two combatants will switch colours after the half way game?

Nov-05-14  chessmoron: <WannaBe> You are absolutely right. The colors will be announced today (that's what I heard).

WannaBe: Here is what I have found out:

I know people will ask this question over and over and over and over, so...

http://www.sochi2014.fide.com/rules...

<The Match is played over a maximum of twelve games and the winner of the match shall be the first player to score 6.5 points or more. If the scores are level after the twelve games, after a new drawing of colors, four tie-break games shall be played. The games shall be played using the electronic clock starting with 25 minutes for each player with an increment of 10 seconds after each move. In case the match is still drawn, a match of 2 games shall be played with a time control of 5 minutes plus 3 seconds increment after each move. In case of a level score, another 2-game match will be played to determine a winner. If still there is no winner after 5 such matches (total 10 games), one sudden-death game will be played.>

Live game and starting time:

http://www.sochi2014.fide.com/ (Scroll down half-way)

Unfortunately I can't find anything on whether it is 40/2hr + 20/1hr + 10s increment or what time control will be used. If you find it, please post it. =)

Will the (prediction) contest carry over to the tie-breaker games? Even to sudden-death game?

No news on the drawing of the colours, yet.

Nov-05-14  chessmoron: <Will the (prediction) contest carry over to the tie-breaker games? Even to sudden-death game?> I will carry the contest if by game 12, the match is still a draw.
Nov-05-14  Golden Executive: <chessmoron: <Will the (prediction) contest carry over to the tie-breaker games? Even to sudden-death game?> I will carry the contest if by game 12, the match is still a draw.>

In that case, all the predictors are elegibles or only the ones who predicted 12 games?

Then I'll wait for the colours to come out. In the meantime...

I had a closer look at the medals you listed, and briefly checked it over. There may still be mistakes, but here are the errors I spotted. Surprisingly, there were only 2 users that lost a medal (overall). I have excluded those users (but still have them). Below I have the errors for each user, along with the reason, and what their correct medal count should be.

<OhioChessFan> PSpr10:1stRanker(3) (silver, not bronze) // Bilb11:1stRanker(3t) forgotten about // Miscalculation (1 extra bronze) // 13K, 7N, 19B

<wordfunph> Bilb11:BonusRnk(3) forgotten about // 12K, 4N, 12B

<Robin01> Lin09:BonusRnk(3) & Dor09:1stRanker(3t) fix order // Dor11:StdMv/Bonus(1) forgot the tie // Tat12:StdMvRnk(1) + BonusRnk(3) + StdMv/Bonus(1) + 1stRanker(1t) forgotten about // Medals correct!

<NakoSonorense> Cor09:BonusRnk(3) counted 2x // Tat13:StdMvRnk(1) it's actually StdMv/Bonus(1) // Tat14:1stRanker(2t) actually Nor14:1stRanker(2t), Tata Steel 1stRanker is 3t // Medals correct!

<WinKing> Dor11:StdMv/Bonus(3t) forgotten about // Bilb11:1stRanker(2t) forgotten about // 8K 22N 11B

<Penguincw> All correct. :|

<Karposian> Nor14:StdMvRnk(3)+ BonusRnk(3) + extra space needed

<SloVice> PSpr10:1stRanker(3t) should be a shared silver // 4K 6N 6B

<Ragh> Bilb11:1stRanker(3t) forgotten about // 3K 4N 6B

<PinnedPiece> Dor11:StdMv/Bonus(3t) forgotten about // 2K 5N 7B

<DCP23> Lin09:1stRanker(3t) should be a shared silver // 2K 1N 4B

<Winter> Lin10:StdMvRnk(1) + StdMv/Bonus(2) + 1stRanker(1) forgotten about // 2K 1N 0B

<onesax> Bilb11:1stRanker(3t) forgotten about // 0K 0N 1B

Notes:

- There were several formatting "errors", but most of them were when you had a dash randomly placed in the middle of a word (ex. St-dMvRnk). I ignored those.

- Please make these changes for the next medal list. If you spot an error, and can find the error (i.e. fix it yourself), then please do so. Thanks. :)

It would be my understanding that people who pick only, say, 10 games, are fine as being qualified to win. They'll just have 2 rounds of guaranteed 0 points.

Nov-07-14  call14: can we predict for every roound? (anytime before start) Obviously every rd result will/may have some impact and so predicting rd 10, well even rd 4-6 at this stage does not seem to justify. Anyway, my prediction for first 2 rds,

G1: Anand-Carlsen (1/2) (34 moves)

G2: Carlsen-Anand (1/2) (42 moves)

OhioChessFan: Okay, I think a recap of the rules is in order. The start of the match has just caught me by surprise, as I suspect many others. The waiting on the draw for colors was especially annoying. Anyway, I will make my next post a rundown of the rules as I (am pretty sure) I understand them.

OhioChessFan: <<RULES> The World Chess Championship Match "Moves" Prediction Contest>

1. 1. Since there's 12 games total, predict as many games as you think the winner will need to score 6.5 points, the number needed to win the match.

Be warned, if a game is not played and you predicted a game result, you will lose 5 points. ie. If game 12 is not played and you predict a game 12, you lose 5 points.

2. All predictions must be posted on OhioChessFan chessforum before NOV 8th, 2014. Specifically, by 11:59 PM November 7th, Chessgames.com time

Posting format:

G1: Player X-Player Y (1-0, 1/2, or 0-1) (# of moves played)

G2: Player X-Player Y (1-0, 1/2, or 0-1) (# of moves played)

....etc.

3. Only Moves+Bonus Ranker (See OhioChessFan chessforum 's profile on what that is about) will be used to medal.

4. I will post results after game 3, game 6, game 9, and game 12.

5. If there are tie breaker games, the contest will continue with new entries at that point.
