<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

OhioChessFan: Okay, I'm an idiot, I finally realized it would be quicker and easier to just do a preview. I typed out a very long series of capts and kept erasing one and previewing again. The very long string of caps showed up as lower case in the preview until I erased enough to remain all caps as in the attempted kibitz. Apparently 15 characters is the maximum number of caps.

< I finally realized it would be quicker and easier to just do a preview>

No shame there. How about this one- I used to manually type out FENS- sometimes it would take an hour, because I kept making mistakes and having to manually check them.

Then <Martinez> showed me how to just copy and paste FENS off my chess engine.

I estimate this has saved me up to 20,000,000 woman hours.

And one more- I train a lot, both jogging and running up stairs.

But my knee cartledge is starting to pop now and I need to reduce load on them.

So my "cunning plan" was to walk quickly up a long steep hill in my neighbourhood. Very low stress on the knees to walk uphill. I tried it, and it worked, except when I had to walk back down my heart rate would plummet and I'd lose the benefit of the workout. Also, my knees were popping when I walked down hill.

So my next "cunning plan" involved asking a friend to wait for me at the top of the hill with a bicycle so that I could "glide down quickly" and then start the next climbing cycle right away. My friend would then run down the hill, get the bicycle, and ride it up to the top in time to meet me for the next "lap."

Imagine my embarrassment when I realized that I could just WALK THE BICYCLE UP TO THE TOP MYSELF and then GLIDE DOWN MYSELF.

Luckily, I hit on this "other other plan" before actually enlisting my friend...

OhioChessFan: Glide down quickly suggests coasting. And if so, you'll be right back to the heart rate plummet. You can, of course, pedal backwards furiously on a geared bike.

Nov-02-14  Ceri: 1. f3 e5/e6 2. Kf2 Qf6 3. Kg3 Qxf3+
4. Kh4 Be7 mate

1. f3 e6 2. Kf2 Bc5+ 3. Kg3 Bf2+
4. Kg4 Qh4 mate

Nov-02-14  MuzioFan: I found a different solution for the second puzzle.

1.f3 e6 2.Kf2 Qf6 3.Kg3 Be7 4.Kg4 Qh4#

Nov-02-14  Ceri: DS suggested a pawn-only solution.

What about: h5/e5/h4/d5 in that order?

Cheers,

Ceri

Nov-02-14  Phi: I found e6/Ne7/Nf5+/Qh4#.
So the question is: are there more than 4 solutions?

No wonder I couldn't find it - I thought that white's pieces had to end up exactly as in the original diagram (ie no capture of f3 allowed).

Nov-03-14  chessmoron: <<RULES> The World Chess Championship Match "Moves" Prediction Contest>

1. Since there's 12 games total, predict the games of who you think the winner is, which needs to score 6.5 points, to win the match.

Be warned, if a game is not played and you predicted a game result, you will lose 5 points. ie. If game 12 is not played and you predict a game 12, you lose 5 points.

2. All predictions must be posted on OhioChessFan chessforum before NOV 8th, 2014

Posting format:

G1: Player X-Player Y (1-0, 1/2, or 0-1) (# of moves played)

G2: Player X-Player Y (1-0, 1/2, or 0-1) (# of moves played)

....etc.

3. Only Moves+Bonus Ranker (See OhioChessFan chessforum 's profile on what that is about) will be used to medal.

4. I will post results after game 3, game 6, game 9, and game 12.

OhioChessFan: Rule 1 is a bit unclear. It suggests that the contestants are picking the winner of the match and not just the winner of each game. I know what you mean, but someone new might not understand it.

Maybe "1. Since there's 12 games total, predict as many games as you think the winner will need to score 6.5 points, the number needed to win the match.

Be warned, if a game is not played and you predicted a game result, you will lose 5 points. ie. If game 12 is not played and you predict a game 12, you lose 5 points."

I'm new and I don't understand it (j/k, but I don't understand it). Are you saying that the predictions have to favour one player, or can I, say, pick draws in every game?

< Be warned, if a game is not played and you predicted a game result, you will lose 5 points. ie. If game 12 is not played and you predict a game 12, you lose 5 points. >

That one is a problem. How about just abolish this penalty system? :)

< 2. All predictions must be posted on OhioChessFan chessforum before NOV 8th, 2014 >

All? So no round-by-round adjustments (looks like the penalty is a lot harder to avoid now)?

< 3. Only Moves+Bonus Ranker (See OhioChessFan chessforum 's profile on what that is about) will be used to medal. >

I assume the scoring system will remain the same (ex. 10 for exact, 7 for under if no exact, etc.)

Nov-03-14  chessmoron: <OhioChessFan> Yes. That's what I meant.

<<Penguincw> I assume the scoring system will remain the same>

Yep.
