<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

  OhioChessFan: ** Round 8 Recap **

It was an exciting round, highlighted by <OhioChessFan> almost losing his job for screaming at his forbidden cell phone, "One more move, PLEASE, one more move!" at the end of the Radjabov-Karjakin game. Alas, it was not to be, and that one move left <Switch> one pick ahead in the #1 Ranker. <Switch> continues to lead Moves Ranker and Moves+Bonus Ranker. <GE> continues leading the Bonus Ranker as he has for almost all the tournament. <Penguincw> showed a lot of determination in moving past <Switch> to the silver medal position in Bonus Ranker.

We are already to the final round in what is possibly an unprecedented moment in this contest's history. Can <Switch> manage to score enough Bonus Points to pass two other contestants and still fend off the lucky but still dangerous <OCF>? A second consecutive Quadruple Crown is a mind boggling thought, and the crowd is murmuring in anticipation.

In other news, <offramp> is waving a dog catcher's scoop at every contestant who draws. Either <Penguincw> is very honest, or very good at cheating, as nobody has found him sneaking points away from <Switch>. Most of the contestants are wondering about the secret code that <chancho> left on the forum, coincidentally, cough, cough, just before a momentous round. <chessmoron> sent some pictures from his vacation to beautiful Lima, Ohio, and asked <OCF> to share them here:

https://goo.gl/images/rxswu4

https://goo.gl/images/tz7cDV

And now the moment is here. Can it be the occasion that everyone forgets about <Penguincw> being the first to hit a Quadruple Crown and begins talking only about <SwitchingQuylthulg> hitting consecutive Quadruple Crowns? Does <GE> have enough left in the tank to hold off <Switch> in Bonus Ranker? Is <Penguincw> serious about his effort to win the gold there? Can <OCF> recover from his apoplexy at the Radja-Karjakin game to focus on his predictions? Is it possible someone else in the pack can have a big round and redeem the honor of all the contestants? We will soon find out the answers to these and many other exciting questions as we head into the final round. And the crowd rises........

OhioChessFan: Hoping <whiteshark> gets the rest of his picks in. IIRC, <chessmoron> counts any games picked even if they don't include the entire schedule.

Carlsen - Ding 1/2 40

Apr-28-18  whiteshark: <OCF> I only have noticed that <Mame vs Mame> had played 30,31 and 33 moves during their last three Gashimov Memorial games. So I'm curious if there's a numerological pre-arrangement conspiracy going on. I'll keep it that way. ;)

And good luck to the rest of you. :)

< Chessgames Bookie: Games have started. >

Thanks. ;)

< OhioChessFan: Thanks so much Penguin. >

You're welcome. :)

And regarding <whiteshark>'s predictions. Since <chessmoron> <would> count his results, I will too.

Thanks for letting me know of that. If you didn't, I probably wouldn't have counted them, as would be the case in <Golden Executive>'s contest. But at the same time, in this contest with every set of predictions you have nothing to lose, whereas in <GE>'s contest you could lose progress in Betting Ranker.

Hopefully it doesn't affect the standings too much but we'll see. ;)

OhioChessFan: I will not be back until long after the results are posted, so as we wait, I wish to thank <chessmoron> as always for running the show. <Penguincw> for stepping up and keeping me from making a fool of myself again. <WinKing> for a lot of work behind the scenes, as a starter, collector of picks on his forum page, warning of the early start today, etc etc etc. <Switch> for being a starter and letting <juan> know about a bad pick and helping correct my scoring mistakes.

Thanks to everyone for playing. I am hoping <cm> does Norway.
