??? BIOGRAPHY ???

Outside of chess, I also like to watch sports (who doesn't), and even play sports (even though I'm not great at it). Baseball is by far my favourite sport.

??? GAME COLLECTIONS ???

Penguincw's Game Collections

To view all my collections, see here: Game Collection: 0: Table of Contents.

??? CHESS PUZZLES ???

Here are some chess puzzles I composed. I'm not a very strong composer, but they should be fun to solve nevertheless. However, since my forum won't always be open, I decided to use one of my game collections for that purpose:

Game Collection: Chess Puzzles

Here's a sample:

White to move, mate in three

??? ACHIEVEMENTS ???

Here's my short list of achievements on this site (other than achievements relating to the prediction contests, which are listed further below):

966th user to open up their forum.

Became the 45th user to reach 13,000 posts (unofficial).

Only the 2nd user (honour shared with 7 other users) to win a membership from the Santa Claus draw twice.

In the ChessBookie Game, finished first in the Championship 2015 preseason with 1727 cbs, 174 cbs ahead of 2nd place. Also, in the Fall 2014 preseason, I finished in 2nd with 1418 cbs, just 40 cbs behind first at the last known update.

4th user, and 3rd overall (after <SwitchingQuylthulg> (x2), <wordfunph> and <Annie K.>) to run the ChessBookie Game.

At the 2016 Caissar Awards, I was nominated and won the "Most Helpful" award for 2015.

In Spring 2016, I became the 172nd user to qualify for the Championship Leg in the ChessBookie Game, finishing in 10th place with 4,204 cbs. (fact-checking needed)

??? PREDICTION CONTESTS ???

I like competing in the prediction contests, and so far, have won these medals (along with the rank listed):

The 4th user to have won at least 3 golds in 3 different contests (after <chessmoron>, <lostemperor> and <SwitchingQuylthulg>). Members of this club are unofficially considered to be "grandmasters" of the prediction contests.

For the 7th consecutive year (2011-2017), I have won at least one gold medal in one of the contests. I am one of just 6 active users to have done so, the others being <chessmoron>, <cromat>, <lostemperor>, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <WinKing>.

??? NOTABLE POSTS ???

I've made over 13,000 posts, but not all posts are created equally. In fact, most of them don't have too much value, but here are some of my best posts:

Probably my most "viral" post to date (introducing the now defunct Chessgames Playing Zone The Kibitzer's Café

Probably the first <on the internet> to notice the Original Six sweep the Tampa Bay Lightning were going through during the Stanley Cup playoffs, 2015: Mating Net chessforum.

Feb-27-11  wordfunph: <Penguincw: Actually,I didn't see that.The move I was thinking of was ...Bf5.>

i also considered the obvious Bf5 zugz though the position is overwhelming win for black anyway, 1.Bf5 then b4 would just prolong the agony of defeat.. :)

Page 1 : Saturday March 12th,2011

Today was a wonderful day for me in the chessbookie game.I had 3 bets. Two won,1 lost.

Amber Blindfold: Rd 1: Nakamura vs Carlsen : Draw [cash in ticket] 5 YOU WIN! COLLECT 20 3:1 4.08 20 Mar-12-11

I betted a draw on the game.It won.I gained 15 chessbucks.Net Worth now 1053 chessbucks.

Amber Rapid: Rd 1: Pick Three : Draw-Draw-Draw [discard ticket] 2 LOSE 4:1 5.01 -- Mar-12-11

Ugh.It lost.So now,I only 1051 chessbucks in my net worth.If it won,I would've won 10.

Amber Rapid: Rd 1: Topalov vs Anand : Draw [cash in ticket] 5 YOU WIN! COLLECT 9 1:1 1.97 9 Mar-12-11

Well,it wasn't that hard of a prediction.So I won 17 chessbucks today.This is quite pleasant.

Old Funds : 1000 chessbucks
Old Net Worth : 1038 chessbucks (maximum bet is 200)

Today was another good day for me in the ChessBookie.Once again,I bet on three events. One in the blindfold, one in the rapid and one in pick 3.

Amber Blindfold: Rd 2: Kramnik vs Anand : Draw [cash in ticket] 5 YOU WIN! COLLECT 16 9:4 3.37 16 Mar-13-11

Well.It was an easy prediction to guess.Oddly,it had the smallest pool.Well.That's 11 chessbucks for me.

Amber Rapid: Rd 2: Aronian vs Nakamura : Draw [cash in ticket] 5 YOU WIN! COLLECT 34 6:1 6.97 34 Mar-13-11

Hmm.I wonder why not many people predicted that the game would be drawn.Well, that's 29 more for me.Net worth is now 1095 chessbucks.

Amber Blindfold: Rd 2: Pick 3 : Draw-White-Draw [discard ticket] 2 LOSE 11:2 6.58 -- Mar-13-11

Well,it lost. But it's not that easy to win Pick 3.There are 27 options! The payout was 13 if it won.

So,in summary,I gained an amazing 38 chessbucks today. So far,the odds have been the most favourable for me at the Amber tournament.

Old Funds : 1005 chessbucks
Old Net Worth : 1055 chessbucks (maximum bet is 200)
