 | | Phony Benoni: <TheFocus> Thanks. At the moment I'm trying to make sense of the 1960 crosstable from Chess Life. I may have to solve some Circe serieshelpmates in 25 to relax. |

 | | WannaBe: <Shams> Rick isn't one of my favourites either... I've posted some very 'frank' comments on ESPN about his articles. |

 | | OhioChessFan: Roger Angell, John Feinstein, ummmmmmmm. Mitch Albom is okay. I guess Peter King has one great column and one horrible column on a regular basis. |
|
| Jan-12-12 | | Jim Bartle: Sorry, shams, I've always liked Reilly. Not on every subject, but most of the time. I like Peter King as well, Roger Angell, Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated and Bruce Jenkins and Scott Ostler of the SF Chronicle. Frank Deford is the best, but doesn't write much any more. Feinstein is up and down. And as I've mentioned many times, Joe Posnanski is the worst despite a lot of knowledge. Always makes everything about himself. |

 | | WannaBe: Okay, let's try this columnist, also from espn.com... http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/201... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Thanks for this: Game Collection: USSR Championship 1920 A wonderful resource, very handy for people trying to construct a biography of <Alekhine>. I haven't forgotten about your coup on the <Notorious Game that influenced the result of the 1955 US Open but actually didn't>, great detective work there. Thanks for posting it in my forum. I also haven't forgotten about your question on the <Nezhmetdinov> game either. I had a horrifying last month in Korea, and now I'm in Canada without either of my <Nezh> books. However, I'll look in both of them when I get back to Korea to see if I can help. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Oh and congratulations on your co-Best Games Collection award with <Big Tuna>. As you pointed out, an appropriate result given how closely you two have been working together on the collections for the last few years. An eerily appropriate result if you ask me, given that the other category in that vote was also a tie. What were the odds? |

 | | WannaBe: According to espn.com page 2 Madden simulation,
New Orleans, Green Bay, New England, and Baltimore will win. I think one dog will pull an upset, but I just don't know which one. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Mannbee> I should come to this forum more often. Do you have the tournament book for the <Grean Bay> tournament? |

 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> I tend to favor experience in the playoffs. This weekend, we have have three games with playoff veterans against playoff rookies (NE-Den, Bal-Hou, NO-SF), and I see no reason to change my stance. In particular, I don't think Denver has a prayer. I think the Giants have an excellent chance to knock off Green Bay. Giants can rush against a suspect Packers offensive line, they can run on the tundra, and their quarterback is capable of lighting up the scoreboard. He's the key. If Eli is playing like Peyton Manning, the Giants win. If Manning is playing like Eli Wallach, the Packers win. A slight vote for GB, with a hedge on the Over. |
|
| Jan-14-12 | | Jim Bartle: I'm not picking a winner until I know if they're playing on frozen tundra, or just ordinary tundra. |
|
| Jan-14-12 | | Joshka: <Phony Benoni> Thanks for your US Open Crosstables from 1957. Any chance you know where the event was held at in Cleveland? thanks in advance:-) |
|
| Jan-14-12 | | WinKing: Just stopped by to congratulate you <Phony Benoni> on being co-winner of the 'Best Game Collection' Caissar Award. I realize that it takes a lot of time & hard work to achieve such a collection. Well done! |

Jan-14-12
 | | Phony Benoni: And CBS is wondering, "Why isn't anybody watching Tebow?" |
|
Jan-14-12
 | | WannaBe: Denver is playing option/college/Army/Navy styled football, all NE have to do, is keep 2 LBs to back, watch Tebow don't let him run (That is how they came back against the Raiders, and won.) Bam, game over. |
|
Jan-14-12
 | | Phony Benoni: Yeah, it wasn't hard to guess this would probably be the least competitive game of the weekend. So how come it's the one that ended up in prime time? Tebow obviously has some skills, and a player with his inspirational powers (and I don't mean spiritual here) should never be counted out. But there's a lot of work ahead of him, and it's an open question whether he'll wind up as a great NFL quarterback or a frequent guest on "Whatever Happened To..." specials. |
