 | | WannaBe: <saffuna> I think the worst, are West Coast team playing Sunday Night Baseball (8PM Eastern starting time) then finish the game close to midnight, fly, and playing 7:15PM Pacific time Monday night game. Ugh!! I'm sure team will sleep on chartered flight, but still... |

 | | Penguincw: < Ironically, it was rain-shortened to just six innings. Still don't know when the game was officially called. And when BoSox eventually got to Detroit. > I don't know about you, but I'm just thinking back to Game 162 in 2011. There was a rain delay during the BOS-BAL game in the 8th inning, with BOS up 3-2. Shouldn't the game have been called off? If it had, then there would be Game 163 between those TB and BOS, at TB. < I think teams should not be required to play a day game after playing a night game in a different city. > Agreed. Or at the very least, make the "travel day" a day game, and the next game a night game. Wrigley might be an exception though... < I think the worst, are West Coast team playing Sunday Night Baseball (8PM Eastern starting time) then finish the game close to midnight, fly, and playing 7:15PM Pacific time Monday night game. > How about those special holidays (ex. 4th of July with 11am ET start in Washington, must be horrible for West Coast teams)? |
|
Aug-18-16
 | | saffuna: I believe players are supposed to be at the park three hours before game time. So let's say 4:30 for a 7:15 game. The Dodgers play the Mets on Sunday night, finish the game at 11, probably get on a flight at 2 a.m., arrive in LA at 7 a.m., get home at 9 a.m, then have seven hours before they need to be at the park again. They sleep some on the plane, but it's not the same as in a bed. |

Aug-18-16
 | | WannaBe: The "Problem", is TV, especially ESPN for their Sunday Night games. Biggest offence, is starting time, 8PM Eastern. Start the game 6PM Eastern, or 5PM. (I know, I know, fans at West Coast or Hawai'i will complaint...) Imagine if you have to delay the start due to weather (e.g. last Friday night at NYY with ARod ceremony and rain.) Or BOS/BAL mid-game weather delay, last night, and if they decided to resume the game!! Now the game's not starting until 9PM, or with a mid-game delay, it won't end until 1:30AM. Ugh!! And since TV pick their games after the schedule's already released, it's virtually next to impossible to change Monday's game. What's a team to do? Get an agreement with the next opponent and play Tuesday double-header? Then you'll get the fans all upset, because they want to see Monday's game with so-and-so pitching, but can't make it to Tuesday's double-header. It's TV, I tell ya. =) |
|
Aug-18-16
 | | saffuna: I've seen a Sunday game on the West Coast starting around 5 in the afternoon. The ESPN announcers say it's tough for the hitters at this hour, with the long shadows. But they won't say the starting time was determined by ESPN itself. |
|
Aug-18-16
 | | WannaBe: <saffuna> That is correct, 4PM or 5PM starting time at any time zone are rough. That's how Kuroda got hit in the head by a come-backer, sunlight/shadow made it very difficult to see. |

 | | WannaBe: #4 is pretty cool. Wonder if he can chew gum and walk at the same time. =)) http://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/... Great matchups (at least on paper...) tonight, NYM (de Grom) at SFG (MadBum), cheapest tix is $11.70 NYM (60-60, 29-30 on the road), SFG (66-54, 33-26 at home), betting line: SFG -157 O/U 6.5 Would be a freakin' <BLAST> going back to AT&T for this game. Must not give into temptation! Must not give into temptation!!! |
|
Aug-18-16
 | | WannaBe: MadBum just hit a ball very, very, very far... |

 | | WannaBe: From ESPN:

65 Years Ago Today: Bill Veeck sends Eddie Gaedel to the plate for the St. Louis Browns. He gets paid $100 for the appearance> |
|

 | | Penguincw: Wow, this is actually a really long streak. Brewers, for the first time in 474 games, have a LHP starting: http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2016/08/19.... Well the game hasn't actually started yet, so don't want to jinx it... |

 | | WannaBe: LAD getting killed in Cincinnati. Ugh!! Norris only lasted 3 2/3 inning. That bullpen for LA will not last until Labour Day. |
|
Aug-19-16
 | | WannaBe: Just "caught" this on the ad, probably heard it over and over and over again, but just realized/dawned on me, see if you can pick up what I did: KNBR 680AM SF Giants flagship radio station have this ad from a sponsor: "[Company Name] will donate $100 for each Giants game winning save." I want to see a save that's not game winning. Yes, I know you can have a blown save, but still... =)) |
|
Aug-19-16
 | | Penguincw: Ooh, Jays lose in the 9th, after giving up back-to-back home runs, including a walk-off inside the park home run. But the O's lose too, despite hitting 4 homeruns in the 1st! |
|
Aug-19-16
 | | WannaBe: Inside da Park? Oooo, musta been a sight to watch. Exciting. |
|
Aug-19-16
 | | saffuna: Jays centerfielder should absolutely be fined for lack of hustle on that home run. The rightfielder tried to catch the ball against the wall, but couldn't. After it bounced back the centerfielder has to be there to pick it up, but he hadn't moved. Really bad. |
|
Aug-20-16
 | | saffuna: I read several articles saying the inside-the-park homer wasn't really a walk-off. This is a misunderstanding of the term as I learned it. Dennis Eckersley invented the term because the pitcher has to walk off, not because the hitting team walks off. Seems the very best closers are those who can deal easily with losing. Eckersley, Rivera, Fingers just accepted that they were going to lose sometimes, so they didn't tighten up. |

 | | WannaBe: Something funny going on in Cincinnati, unless you're a LAD fan, then it's not so funny. |
|
Aug-20-16
 | | Penguincw: < saffuna: Jays centerfielder should absolutely be fined for lack of hustle on that home run. > I noticed that too (watching it, I wondered where Upton was). Upton wasn't there to back up the previous homerun either, though it was out of the park. < I read several articles saying the inside-the-park homer wasn't really a walk-off. > I was "taught" that any play that results in the home team scoring the immediate game winning run was a walk off _____, since the pitcher and the fielders haev to walk-off the field, while the other team celebrates on it. ---
Uh oh, Dodgers being no-hit through 6 innings, and down 8-0. And this is coming 365 days after Mike Fiers no-hit them on Aug/21/2015. Luckily, the Giants have already lost today. |
|
Aug-20-16
 | | Penguincw: Here's to jinxing no-hitters! Mere minutes after <WannaBe> and I mentioned it, A-Gon gets a single. |
|
Aug-20-16
 | | WannaBe: Too bad they already played 6 full innings (it's an official game), hoping for that rain out. =) |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | WannaBe: One of the SFG radio announcer just made a 'hilarious' slip of the tongue. "... any reproduction or dissemination of this broadcast is prohibited by Major League Baseball and San Francisco Giants." Well, he said:
"... any reproduction or decimation of this broadcast..." To give him a break, he is subbing for one of the regular broadcaster. Still funny as heck. Decimate. =)) |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | WannaBe: Today's trivia question from SFG radio announcer J. Miller: "Four managers have managed Giants, both while in New York or in San Francisco 10 years or more, name them." <saffuna> is DQ'd from answering this question. =)) |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | saffuna: Giants have had only a few managers going back to Roger Craig. Not sure how many stayed ten years though. I would guess (sorry) that John McGraw might be one of them. |
