Aug-21-16
 | | WannaBe: Johnny Mac is the obvious answer (30 years). So no harm done there... =)) |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | WannaBe: Bonus Trivia, on the same idea as that Giants question: Brooklyn/Los Angeles have had two managers that managed the team 10 years or more. Who are they?? Everyone can (try) answer this one! =)) |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | saffuna: Well, no challenge at all there for LA: Alston and LaSorda. |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | WannaBe: <saffuna> Yeah, that was easy... Walter and Tommy. =) |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | saffuna: Jace Peterson hit a walk-off homer at Atlanta today. Literally hundreds of fans cheered wildly. |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | WannaBe: No-No Alert!!! NYM @ SFG. |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | Penguincw: Samardzija has only allowed one baserunner, a walk to, the pitcher... |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | WannaBe: Not anymore, Granderson just got a hit. |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | WannaBe: Next batter, hit an HR. 2-0 NYM. |
|
Aug-21-16
 | | Penguincw: Cespedes home run, 2-0 Mets! Huge, since Dodgers and Giants currently in a tie at 68-55. One thing I've noticed about a pitcher who's throwing a no-hitter, as soon as the first hit is given up, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th hit soon comes. Things quickly go downhill from there... |
|
Aug-22-16
 | | WannaBe: Oh goodness gracious, LAD's starter S. Kazmir only lasted 2 2/3 innings. Ugh!! Bring on the bullpen (again). |
|
Aug-22-16
 | | WannaBe: Dodgers 16, Reds 7. Good football game. Someone tell the coach to go for two. |
|
Aug-22-16
 | | saffuna: <Dodgers 16, Reds 7. Good football game. Someone tell the coach to go for two.> Namath guaranteed the win. |
|
Aug-22-16
 | | WannaBe: 18-9 Final, Field Goals War. |
|
Aug-22-16
 | | Penguincw: In a battle between the 2 teams with the most used bullpens in the majors (http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/sortable.j...), LAD wins 18-9. Dodgers bullpen outpitch the starters 18.2 IP-15.1 IP, and worth noting there were no extra inning games... Season is starting to wind down, as indicated by all the divisional matches (SF-LAD tomorrow). |

Aug-22-16
 | | saffuna: <18-9 Final, Field Goals War.> But in hits it was 21-14. Touchdowns. |
|
Aug-22-16
 | | WannaBe: Okay, Giants managers with 10 or more years with the club: J. McGraw
B. Terry
D. Baker
B. Bochy |
|
Aug-22-16
 | | saffuna: Three were easy, only Terry hard to think of.
This is funny:
<Ralph Branca, 90, and the spiritual leader of pre-Mets New York NL baseball, is in a rehab facility, working on strengthening his legs.“Actually,” he said, “I’m in for a nose job, so it might take a while.”> |
|
Aug-23-16
 | | Phony Benoni: So it wasn't his fault that the giants nosed out the Dodgers? |
|
Aug-23-16
 | | WannaBe: Yep, LAD have tied a "Modern Year" record:
http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/... |
|
Aug-23-16
 | | Penguincw: Looks like the Rangers released Hamilton. Is this the beginning of the end for him? http://m.mlb.com/news/article/19723... Hamilton used to be one of the best hitters in the game, but he's clearly waning now, although he has been playing less and less, and is injured. Remember when Hamilton got an IBB with the bases loaded? That just shows he good he was. I remember when he got that 4 homer game. The opposing starter for that game - Jake Arrieta, who was struggling with his career at that time. My, have times changed. |
|
Aug-23-16
 | | saffuna: Hamilton almost didn't play in the majors at all because of serious drug problems. He was the #1 overall pick in the 1999 draft, and didn't play in the majors until 2007 at age 26. A lot of people had thought he would never play at all. Then of course he was great for a number of years. |
|
Aug-23-16
 | | Phony Benoni: Don't feel like looking this up. Is Ken Griffey Jr. the first son of a former major league player to reach the Hall of Fame? |
|
Aug-24-16
 | | saffuna: I was thinking Cal Ripken, but Sr. never played in the majors. |
|
