 | | WannaBe: <saffuna> Yes, quite a few easy passes were dropped. Typical of 'SC, a player got ejected for stomping on an Alabama player. |

 | | saffuna: Did you see the LSU player who leveled the Wisconsin player who was running and celebrating the game-winning interception? It looks to me as if the guy thought the play was still alive, that the Wisconsin back was running back the interception. |

 | | WannaBe: <saffuna> No. Missed that one, after one half, Tailback U. have 6 yards on 15 carries. That's right <SIX> rushing yards. |

 | | WannaBe: 'SC self-destructing... Won't see me shed a tear on that. |

 | | WannaBe: Ya think Lane Kiffin's running up the score and laughing (inside)?? |

Sep-03-16
 | | WannaBe: Still a little early, but there's something brewing in Oakland. |

 | | Penguincw: Baseball: Indians won, so Twins cannot win the AL Central. MIN is also the team closest to elimination for Wild Card contention, at 4. Braves stay alive by winning (and WSH losing). After them, the next closest to being eliminated from division contention are the A's, who are currently at 4, and losing to BOS 9-0, playing in their baseball-football hybrid stadium (if BOS wins, they'll tie TOR on top of the AL East). |

 | | WannaBe: 'SC just did something that drive Greg Easterbrook nuts. Trojans kicked a field goal, while being down 38-3. Will it matter if you lost 45-6 or 45-3 (If you went for it on 4th down and not get it??) |
|
Sep-03-16
 | | WannaBe: Okay, now L. Kiffin, N. Saban and Alabama's rubbin' it in, 4th and goal on the 2 they went for it and scores. |

 | | WannaBe: Eastern Washington is leading Washington State, also South Dakota State is putting up a great fight with TCU. (Switching over to that game on TuneIn.com) That's SDSU Jackrabbits vs TCU Great Horny Toads. =) |

 | | WannaBe: Just found out a bit more on that kicker, not only is he Canadian and last name Molson, apparently his family owns a certain Major League Hockey Team in Canada. Maybe he can score me some tickets to the World Hockey Championship! |

 | | Penguincw: In a battle between MLB's win leader* (Happ) and MLB's lost leader (Archer), can the Jays win? Yes, they did, and they had to rally for it (this time successfully). Neither starters picked up a decision. * Yes, I know Porcello has more wins than Happ, but Happ was the leader a short while ago. |

 | | WannaBe: <Sept-03-16 saffuna: Dodgers had 13 hits and scored two runs?> Should have seen today's CIN box score, two runs on 11 hits, while their opponent StL scored 5 runs on 5 hits. Go Fig. |

Sep-04-16
 | | WannaBe: Bottom 8, Oakland still have not gotten a hit, but it's 0-0 game. |
|
Sep-04-16
 | | WannaBe: Never mind, A's got a hit. |
|
Sep-04-16
 | | WannaBe: A's come from being no-hit thru 7, to winning the game 1-0. (2 hits) Go Fig. |

 | | Phony Benoni: This is not such a great play, but I'm showing it for a reason: http://m.mlb.com/det/video/topic/47... Question: do right-handed pitchers score better in fielding statistics because it's easier for them to cover first base, leading to more putouts? |
|
Sep-04-16
 | | saffuna: You mean it's easier to reach for the ball with the glove on the left hand? I'd say that's right. But also, a lefthander tends to fall away after the pitch toward third, and a righthander toward first. |
|

 | | Phony Benoni: I was thinking mainly of the pitching motion. One the pitcher gets to first base, I doubt it makes any difference which hand the glove is on; that's more a matter of footwork. Looking at the list of Gold Glove winners, you see guys like Greg Maddux, Mark Buehrle, Jim Kaat and Bobby Shantz. Not exactly the hardest throwers. But then you also see guys like Bob Gibson and Ron Guidry. So it probably boils down to mechanics. Then there are guys like Jim Bunning.
http://sports.mearsonlineauctions.c... That's one of his better follow throughs. He's still upright. |

 | | Penguincw: How about fielding a bunt? Or is it even a factor? When finishing a pitching motion, I noticed that a LHP tends to end up a bit on the left side of the infield, and vice-versa. The ideal bunt would be up the 3rd base line (since it's a farther throw to 1st). A LHP would get to it quicker (even if it's just a bit). ---
Cincinnati Reds: "Today in Reds history, 1971: Woody Woodward is almost hit by a 10-pound sack of flour which drops from an airplane passing over Dodger Stadium. The sack hits the ground 15 feet from Woodward at his shortstop position." Cool name. |

 | | saffuna: < I was thinking mainly of the pitching motion. One the pitcher gets to first base, I doubt it makes any difference which hand the glove is on; that's more a matter of footwork.> I think a righthander does have a slight advantage. Say the throw is slightly behind him, just a foot or two. A righthander just reaches back, no change. A lefthander has to reach back across his body, delaying reaching the base. A tiny difference in any case. A righthanded pitcher can definitely throw to first more quickly than a lefthander. A lefthander better to third. In general the catcher is supposed to field the bunt if possible. |

 | | WannaBe: That is why teams don't do flour give-away day anymore. But seriously, this actually happened, once. Can't remember which team did this promo, (it was NHL team, if I remember right... Doubt it was AHL) but it was free puck night, and they gave the puck to you as you enter the arena. Unfortunately, that night, the home team (doing the promo) played horribly, and was losing badly by the second period. You then get some 'bad calls' by the refs (opinions of the fans). Next thing you know, the goalie(s) and both teams had to stop pucks from raining down on them. Since then, any puck give-away day, you get the puck on your way out. I've been to a few baseball games where bobble-heads were given out. But I can't remember any "Raining Bobble-head Day". =)) |

 | | WannaBe: <saffuna>, <Phony Benoni>, <PenguinCW>: The issue here, is not right/left handed pitcher, it's the fact that first base is located 45 degrees to the right. Now, imagine, if you will humour, that every other inning we alternate first/third base. Like football/basketball/hockey alternate which basket they shoot at. Why, this would be more fun(nier) than Three Stooges. |

Doubt it was AHL) but it was free puck night, and they gave the puck to you as you enter the arena. > Doing some quick research, looks like it was the WHA. Although it could be a different game. " One example of why giveaway nights should be held with bated breath. During the 1972 home opener for the short-lived Philadelphia Blazers franchise in the WHA, fans were handed orange pucks before the game. Unfortunately, before puck drop the Zamboni broke through the ice, causing the game to be cancelled. Fans began tossing the pucks onto the surface, scaring away officials who were trying to calm things down. " http://www.thehockeynews.com/articl... I also believe something similar has happened in baseball. In 1995, there was a STL-LAD game with a free baseball as a giveaway. After an incident that went against the Dodgers, fans threw baseballs onto the field (not exactly a soft object) and eventually, the Dodgers forfeited the game, down just 1 run in the 9th. Apparently due to this incident, MLB decided that any giveaway that was throwable would be given as fans <leave> the stadium instead of enter the stadium (good thing "beer" does not count as a giveaway). |
