 | | WannaBe: Holy Cow(boys), Cent. Mich just beat Okla State Cowboys on a Hail Mary!!! (Honestly, I don't even know CMU's nickname!?) |
|
Sep-10-16
 | | saffuna: Hail Mary with a lateral. We'll be seeing that one on highlights for years. |
|
Sep-10-16
 | | WannaBe: #2 Clemson only beat Troy by 6!??! |
|
Sep-10-16
 | | WannaBe: Okay, 'SC game over, time to get into traffic on the 110 and head to Pasadena. Oh, wait, I'm not there. |
|
Sep-10-16
 | | WannaBe: Re: CMU/OSU game:
http://www.espn.com/college-footbal... Huh? I never knew that, is that NFL rule, too?
If the offensive team commits a penalty, that have a loss of down (Intentional Grounding), the game is over if clock runs out? |
|
Sep-10-16
 | | WannaBe: Still a little early, but something funny is going on in MIA/LAD game. |
|
Sep-10-16
 | | WannaBe: Okay, 7 full innings, we have a potential Perfect-o in Miami. Rich Hill for LAD have faced and retired all 21 batters. (So far)... |
|
Sep-10-16
 | | WannaBe: Rich Hill's Line so far:
7IP 0H 0BB 0IBB 0Bebe 0DKNY 0R 0ER 0-0 0-0-0 0HR 9K 88 Pitches 61 Strike 0 Spare, Bowling a perfect game. |
|
Sep-10-16
 | | WannaBe: Never mind, R. Hill got pulled and the next pitcher promptly ruined the perfect game. |
|
Sep-10-16
 | | Penguincw: Surprised he got pulled after just 88 pitches, and a perfect game. The Dodgers were up 5-0, and the pitcher spot wasn't due up soon. I would've let him pitch 'til he gave up the perfect game (or no-hitter). But hey, Dodgers win. |
|
Sep-10-16
 | | Phony Benoni: It seems the Chippewas -- more familiarly, the Chips -- shouldn't have gotten that untimed down. Well, I don't like that rule. It doesn't seem fair that a team can deliberately commit an infraction and receive no penalty outside of the stat sheet. As fans, how often have we helpfully suggested our team not chance a punt with a few seconds left, but instead throw a long, uncatchable pass to use up the time? This should learn us. |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | Penguincw: Yet another reason not to "abolish" the IBB: http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2016/09/10.... Man, the Yankees are on a roll. They kinda gave up on the postseason in July, trying to sell away their team for younger talent, but they've won 7 straight, and are just 1 game out of a postseason spot. |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | Phony Benoni: hardly a reason to abolish the IBB. If a team can't execute properly, they deserve to be punished. I don't think Sanchez made such a great play, either. It won't take long for other teams to learn how to tempt him into bad swings in that situation. |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | WannaBe: http://www.espn.com/college-footbal... Here was the scenario, OK St 27, Cen. Mich 24.
OK St have the ball at CMU 41, 4th down and 13, clock shows 00:04 Make me the coach and I would:
<59 yards to your own end zone, 4 seconds left RUN THE OTHER WAY FOR (A) SAFETY!!!!> Give the ball to the RB and tell him to run to the other way to the 5 or take a safety. OK St, you're up by 3 pts!! The RB's already got 5 or 6 yards head start on the defence if he runs the other way. Do the math, Cowboys coaching staff. |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | WannaBe: OAK and LAD play at 10, SFG at 1, and we have evening football & baseball. Oh glorious Sunday! Go ARZ (-6), go SEA (-10.5)!! |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | keypusher: <Premium Chessgames Member WannaBe: Thanks <keypusher> I'm gonna bet the house on SEA and retire Friday morning.> I hope that was a straight-up bet... |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | WannaBe: <keypusher> Nope, just $11 on SEA -10.5 Guess I'm going to work Monday. |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | WannaBe: Referee crew and replay officials suspended after CMU/OSU game gaffe http://www.espn.com/college-footbal... |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | saffuna: The University of Colorado was given five downs against Missouri in the last minute around 1990 and scored on the fifth, going on to win the national championship. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth...(1990) |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | Phony Benoni: Note for posterity: When I made this kibitz earlier, it had a typo in it which I would rather not have preserved. <WannaBe>, Thanks for pointing it out, but I would appreciate it if you deleted your response as well. ------
I realize there is strong precedent not to reverse officiating calls after the game is over, no matter how egregious the mmistake. Hard to think examples outside of the Pine Tar Game, or the final score in the Harvey Haddix Game But OSU-CMU has to be close to the line, because the correct ruling would have been so absolutely final. I do hope nobody had Indy +3 ... hee-hee-hee... |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | WannaBe: <saffuna> I remember that well, but it was waaaaaaay before (any) replay, HD TVs, and internet "replay" age... |
|
Sep-11-16
 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> Thanks. Much appreciated. There's the finish of Missouri - Colorado.:

Sep-11-16
 | | WannaBe: <Phony Benoni> What previous post?? =) |
|
| Sep-12-16 | | Travis Bickle: Yo Phony yer Lions pulled out a shootout victory.. Congrats! The Bears Suck again... |
|
Sep-12-16
 | | Phony Benoni: Hey, Travis, don't get down on the Bears yet. Houston's probably a playoff team, and opening against them ont he road was a tough assignment. You get the Lions at home in a couple of weeks; we'll know more then. Probably the most encouraging thing about the Lions yesterday was that they were finishing drives instead of kicking field goals. 5 TDs t 1 FG is not their usual ratio. |
