 | | WannaBe: <saffuna> That also happened about 2 or 3 year ago, can't remember the teams involved... |
|
Sep-18-16
 | | saffuna: Mike Trout slid in to score on a close play today. The bat was lying in the baseline about five feet toward third base. Is there any rule about interference from a bat left "in play"? And is it the responsibility of the umpire to get the bat out of there? (I assume it is not correct that a 3-year-old batboy will run up and get the bat while play is going on.) The video is on the espn.com game scores page right now, but I can't link directly to it. |

Sep-18-16
 | | saffuna: OK, I give up.
Why are the <Reds> wearing <green> uniforms? |
|
Sep-18-16
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Jim> Any truth to the rumor that <Mike Trout> was signed because he was willing to play for scale? |
|
Sep-18-16
 | | saffuna: Actually he was a bit of a comedown for the Angels. Their previous outfielder was <Tim Salmon>. |
|
Sep-18-16
 | | saffuna: NY-Boston game started at 8:08. It's now 11:22 and they're starting the 8th inning. Only eight runs scored, so that can't be the reason for the slow pace. |

 | | Phony Benoni: From the Cincinnati Reds home page:
<...as the Reds -- who wore green uniforms to celebrate Irish Heritage Day...> Just don't ask me why they're celebrating Irish Heritage Day. Or what it is. I guess the Irish are allowed to take over whenever an equinox approaches. |

| Sep-19-16 | | Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen:
<Jim> Any truth to the rumor that <Mike Trout> was signed because he was willing to play for scale?> Does that mean he's a Pisces? |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Jim> Yes I remember <Tim Salmon>, felt a bit bad for him though. It was an upstream battle for him with the Angels, if I'm not mistaken. |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | saffuna: He did pretty well, though, considering he constantly had to face <Warren Spawn>. |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
HAHHHHA Good heavens if I'd known baseball was this much fun I'd have become a baseball fan years ago. Are all of the teams and players fish-related?
Does this mean the <Florida Marlins> are perennially the best team? Now that I'm "in the know" I feel that an ocean of possibilities awaits.. |

 | | saffuna: I reached this position with white against a weak program which likes material but often doesn't bother developing its queenside and leaves its king in the center. click for larger view/ I think white to play has a won position? |

Sep-19-16
 | | WannaBe: Tonight's a good 1.5 header day, gonna start with MNF, then switch over to SF@LA =) |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | Phony Benoni: Just looking at the batting leaders: in the AL Jose Altuve (2B-HOU) has a thirteen-point lead. Over in the NL, there are two players tied and even further ahead of the pack: Daniel Murphy (2B-WAS) and DJ LeMahieu (2B-Col). I wonder if there has even been a year when second basemen led both leagues in hitting. |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | WannaBe: Time to go SF @ LA game, I'm on baseball-reference check that second basemen winning batting title... So far, I've gotten nothing but Miguel Cabrrara for Detroit. Grrrrrr |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | WannaBe: Let's see if this "Qualifies", 1975, Rod Carew and Bill Madlock, both played multiple positions, so it does cause some debate and convolution. http://www.baseball-reference.com/a... It's so funny, going through the names as I scroll down, Mattingly (1B), T. Gwynn (OF), B. Bonds (OF), etc. When looking at these names, you just automatically go to the next year, because you know the position they played. Man, I'm getting "Old". =)) |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | Phony Benoni: I think I'd have to disqualify Madlock. In 1975 he played only third pase, and that was his primary position throughout his career. |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | Phony Benoni: An odd statistic of Harry Heilmann in 1925. Scroll down a bit, and check out the 130-point difference in batting average between home and road games http://www.baseball-reference.com/p.... |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | WannaBe: That's nothing!! Check out any Colorado player, they hit .900 at home but .002 on the road. Sheeeeeesh!! |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | Phony Benoni: Perhaps. But you'll note that Heilmann hit .456 <on the road>. It was just a fluke. His lifetime splits were about even. |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | WannaBe: In an unrelated gnus/update, TV sets are flying out of windows in Chicago. 22-7 Santa Haters, very late third Qtr. |
|
Sep-19-16
 | | saffuna: Madlock was a third baseman.
And a player not appreciated much by the statheads, or really baseball people in general. He was known to care about his batting average and his batting average only, to the point of wanting to sit out against pitchers who were tough for him. Not so much in the first years with the Cubs, but later on. |

 | | WannaBe: Cincinnati have set a MLB record for HR allowed: https://twitter.com/i/web/status/77... |

Sep-20-16
 | | WannaBe: After 6 full, Seattle Mariners still have not gotten a hit. But I doubt I'll be able to awake for the conclusion of the game. |
