 | | Phony Benoni: So, it looks like the Lakers and Clippers switched uniforms tonight. |

 | | scormus: <Sax Sacs> Thanks, but I was was not completely serious about the pun. I had in mind the sax that became popular in the late 70's, largely thanks to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAHv...
Enjoy! |

Feb-17-11 | | Deus Ex Alekhina: Cabrera in trouble; that's all we need. |
|
Feb-19-11 | | A.G. Argent: <"You look Morphyless!"> Well, I thought it was funny. |

Feb-24-11
 | | WannaBe: Err... Please, do not take my post on the Stumpers page seriously. Sincerely, as ever, yours, BFFE.
(Actually, I thought you would have nailed that answer by now. =) |

Feb-24-11 | | crawfb5: Game Collection: Marshall -- Ed. Lasker 1923 match is more or less complete, barring the usual corrections or additions. http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/... might be of interest, although it's probably not anything you don't already know. I know Cummings isn't the only candidate for "inventor," but he's the "official" one with probably as good a claim as anybody and the point is more to highlight Showalter's implausibility than to strengthen Cummings' position. I have read claims that Matthews said he learned the curve from Cummings. I wonder how different curves looked then compared to now. Restrictions on pitching motion weren't lifted until the mid-1880s, correct? |

 | | WannaBe: <Phony Benoni> I was reading your suggestion to CG.com in regards to Tactical puzzle submission, in which it was a link directly to the post. Can you tell me how you were able to calculate the number? I know it's the page, and then 25 per page plus existing, minus any deleted posts. Enquiring minds wants to know! Thanks. |

|
Mar-02-11 | | andrewjsacks: Mr. Moody, I thank you again for being a witty man and a voice of reason here. And that is not a crock of Benoni. |
|
Mar-02-11
 | | Phony Benoni: <andrewjsacks> Thank you. |
|
Mar-04-11 | | Travis Bickle: Hey Phony I was reminiscing about Da Coach...Well he was more interesting in 28 seconds than Lovie has been in 5 years!... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kl02... |
|
Mar-04-11 | | Jim Bartle: Saw this headline at cnnsi:
"Ex-Giants star Burress to leave prison in June"
And I'm wondering, Pat Burrell went to jail? Why? When? And isn't he still on the Giants? Then I opened it and saw it was Burress (Plaxico), not Burrell. For a while there I thought striking out every time up had become a crime. |

 | | Phony Benoni: So is a player who strikes out often like a Deer in the headlights? |
|
Mar-05-11 | | playground player: <Phony Benoni> Sparky Anderson once said he was going to hire "Joe Gorilla" to be Rob Deer's batting coach. Meanwhile, I've posted a game on my forum, and would be interested to see your comments, if you feel like making any. |

Mar-06-11 | | Calli: Schachzeitung 1847-1870 is a comparatively recent additions to Google books. Time for a collection! Game Collection: Deutsche Schachzeitung The magazine later became Deutsche Schachzeitung. Vols 3, 6, 9 are in Google, but not in full view. I wrote them about it. We'll see what happens. |
|
Mar-06-11
 | | Phony Benoni: <Calli> Thanks for the collection. I was able to fill in a couple of gaps. |
|
Mar-06-11 | | andrewjsacks: That's right, Phony--or he may have come down with Thome poisoning... |
|
Mar-09-11 | | mig55: Phoni, were do I find your collection of puzzles? It looks nice!! Thx.. |
|
Mar-09-11
 | | Phony Benoni: <mig55> I'm just collecting the daily puzzles provided by chessgames.com and arranging them by date. Probably the quickest way to find them is to do a search in "Game Collections". Try a phrase like: puzzle day phony benoni |
|
Mar-09-11 | | crawfb5: I couldn't let it go. Winter decided to do a note on my confusion: http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/... CN 6996 (right after the Fischer-Euwe note).
We'll see if any of his readers has further gas to throw on the fire. |

Mar-10-11
 | | Richard Taylor: <Phony> Keep that cataloging up! |
|
Mar-10-11
 | | Richard Taylor: I believe in cataloging and collating things just for the pure joy of it not it's relevance...although "relevance" and use might be a spin off... <Phony Benoni> Do you or have you played the Benoni? I was going to ask a question about the Taimanov line... |
|
Mar-10-11
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Richard> Yes!
I couldn't agree with you more. I think that cataloging and collating is entirely legitimate, not to mention wonderful, just for itself. There is great joy both in doing this work, and in enjoying the work of others. There's an aesthetic to such activity that does indeed relegate "relevance" to the category of "spin-off." I don't make chess history videos because I think they are "relevant"- I make them because I want to look at them after I make them. |
|
Mar-10-11
 | | Phony Benoni: <Richard Taylor> Yes, I have played the Benoni. My player page (David Moody) has a couple of examples. I'm not much of a theortician, but will take a whirl at any questions you have. |
