TheAlchemist: Thank you, you too!

Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

   Oct-28-23 D Lazavik vs Wojtaszek, 2023 (replies)

TheAlchemist: White played a seemingly clever sacrifice, but the refutation on move 25 was simply stunning

TheAlchemist: <goodevans: Will we have another Milan-based pun tomorrow when its two big football teams face each other in the Champions League Semi-Final? https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsl... It's a huge reach, but you could call it even timelier. Unfortunately Slovaks call it ...

Apr-30-23 Nepomniachtchi vs Ding Liren, 2023 (replies)

TheAlchemist: Amazing, what a finish, what a match. Congratulations, Ding!

   Nov-08-22 D Citra vs R Vaishali, 2016 (replies)

TheAlchemist: Great pun!

   Aug-08-22 European Team Championship (2001)

TheAlchemist: I'd have to dig out contemporary magazines to be sure, but I think it said Black simply left the playing hall and never returned, leaving everyone puzzled (teammates included).

TheAlchemist: Terrible news. Rest in peace, PB.

   Oct-17-21 Keres vs A Sakovski, 1936 (replies)

TheAlchemist: I also forgot to add that both of those are masculine forms, the feminine one would be "šahistka". I was a bit too fast with the reply.

TheAlchemist: Heh, Switch is omnipresent and omniscient, always ready to jump in with the answer :-)
Jun-14-13  brankat: <TheAlchemist>

Our friend <SwitchingQuylthulg> secretly runs this site from his secluded lake-shore mansion somewhere in the deep, dark forest of Finland.

Planning to take over a score of other chess sites, too.

Something like Dr.NO :-)

Jun-18-13  The Last Straw: Should I call the pharmacy?
Jun-18-13  The Last Straw: Dang. Operator unavailable. I guess that'll do.
Jun-20-13  The Last Straw: BTW, I've found another way how to form the blank post.

TheAlchemist: Thanks, but I simply adapted a pre-existing design, only I had to manually add non-breakable spaces, since CG.com doesn't allow for multiple spaces between words and symbols. Which was kind of a pain, but it did turn out ok :-)

Dec-19-13  MarkFinan: I just realized. You're MQ, right? Brilliant page with some brilliant quotes but it's gone downhill lately. Some of those early posts are unbelievably funny, and I think we need that on this site. We have to move with the times and this website is now not only a community, but it's social media too. It's facebook for chess fans no matter what the so called old guard think. loved reading through the quotes though, right up until the cronyism.

TheAlchemist: It's hard to disagree with both of your posts, perhaps you've noticed that many of the protagonists from the beginnings of MQ are gone and let's just say I've been pretty lazy and haven't been doing a good job of keeping up for almost 3 years now. And the resulting "untidy" MQ, which is in serious need of a cleanup. Someday.
Dec-25-13  brankat: Hello my dear friend!

Wishing You all the best for the Holiday season!

Jan-01-14  waustad: Since you mentioned overuse of commas, I'm guilty of it too. When I was in school in the 50s and 60s they were used a lot more than they are now. I got a "Chicago Manual of Style" when I was proofreading for a math journal many years ago so when a friend who is a native Spanish speaker was looking for help proofreading a document I brought it along. Many of the commas I learned to use in my youth are now skipped. Other things that now seem to be typical are that people no longer use the subjunctive at all and seem to think that a combination like "Fred and I" should be used even if it is clearly the object of a preposition. English needs some spelling reform, but its grammar is already simplified compared to most other Western European languages. Native speakers of Slavic languages always seem to struggle with when to use articles, but compared to dealing with Spanish verb forms or the der/die/das/den/dem/,..., matrix in German, English grammar is not that bad.

Happy New Year!

By the way, nice ASCII knight!

OhioChessFan: I accidentally doubled up posts on Memorable Quotes. The first one didn't look right so I made a small correction and then forgot to delete the first one. Can you do the honors?

TheAlchemist: Yeah, last time it worked out really well. Maybe we could set a new record this time.

Perhaps I should just let it cool down, maybe then I can do a big sweep and hopefully call it a rest. Because what's the point, really, if it will just resume tomorrow?

Jan-31-14  MarkFinan: Stalker??? Me?? You cheeky little nerd! You go through my facebook and twitter pages, comment on my frigging haircut and I'm the stalker?? Are you just plain stupid? **You** said those things about **me** . And every time you insult me I'll repost it there.. Cheeky little weirdo.
Jan-31-14  MarkFinan: And you can leave my posts exactly where they are pal. Unless they're breaking the rules, and if that is the case shouldn't someone be blowing the whistle on Nerdboy seeing as they're his??
