TheAlchemist: Thank you, you too!

Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

   Oct-28-23 D Lazavik vs Wojtaszek, 2023 (replies)

TheAlchemist: White played a seemingly clever sacrifice, but the refutation on move 25 was simply stunning

TheAlchemist: <goodevans: Will we have another Milan-based pun tomorrow when its two big football teams face each other in the Champions League Semi-Final? https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsl... It's a huge reach, but you could call it even timelier. Unfortunately Slovaks call it ...

Apr-30-23 Nepomniachtchi vs Ding Liren, 2023 (replies)

TheAlchemist: Amazing, what a finish, what a match. Congratulations, Ding!

   Nov-08-22 D Citra vs R Vaishali, 2016 (replies)

TheAlchemist: Great pun!

   Aug-08-22 European Team Championship (2001)

TheAlchemist: I'd have to dig out contemporary magazines to be sure, but I think it said Black simply left the playing hall and never returned, leaving everyone puzzled (teammates included).

TheAlchemist: Terrible news. Rest in peace, PB.

   Oct-17-21 Keres vs A Sakovski, 1936 (replies)

TheAlchemist: I also forgot to add that both of those are masculine forms, the feminine one would be "šahistka". I was a bit too fast with the reply.

TheAlchemist: I've just finished the third part:

Game Collection: Chess Informant: 640 Best Games - Part 3

5 to go!

Jul-17-06  KingG: <TheAlchemist> I just submitted the following games, so look out for them soon:

Dieks,Roy G vs Ciocaltea,Victor
Sibarevic,Milenko vs Bukic,Enver
Stean,Michael vs Ungureanu,Emil
Beliavsky,N vs Rapoports,Ilja

Unfortunately, i can't find the Geller vs Spassky game, which is very strange. You would think that every database would have all the games between two such great and well-known players.

Jul-21-06  ganstaman: Given your love of sacrifices, this game made me think of you. Hope you like it.

<At this point, I have nearly everything ready to attack the kingside, which doesn't have the strongest of pawn structures, and black has still not developed his 3 queenside pieces. I think I invaded with the knight too early, and I could either admit my mistake with 16.Ne4 or 16.Ng4, but where would the fun be in that? I was most concerned about black rejecting my sacrifice here. :) > 16. Nh5+! gxh5 17. Qxh5 <I thought this was a mistake, and in fact 17.Bxh7 was better (black can't accept the bishop sacrifice anyway). However, I can at least draw here, and still even have winning chances.> Nxd3 18. Rf3 <?? Ok, scratch that last comment. The computer game me a positive score on every move so far. Here, I'm -5.38. It's sad, though. I can sac properly, I just can't follow it up right :) > e5 19. Rg3+ Kh8 20. Nf3 exf4 21. exf4 <?? I could have drawn on like every move since I messed up. Here, I walk into a smothered mate beginning with 21...Qb6+> Nxf4 <? Lucky me, I get to suffer longer instead... It just all falls apart from here> 22. Qg5 Ne2+ 23. Kf2 Nxg3 <Yay, I can draw again! But oh-no! I think I have to still attempt to mate. Aggressiveness will be the death of me :(> 24. hxg3 Qc2+ 25. Ke3 Re8+ 26. Kf4 Qg6 <26...Qe4# would have been better, but what's it matter anymore?> 0-1

TheAlchemist: <ganstaman> Too bad about your loss, you played very well. Too often mistakes don't come alone, I know that too :-). You're welcome to post your games in the future here too, I have saved many games posted here by various kibitzers, some were really great.

<I can sac properly, I just can't follow it up right>

This happens to me too, it's frustrating sometimes :-)

<26...Qe4# would have been better>

LOL, it's important to maintain your sense of humour, even though you lost :-)

Jul-22-06  ganstaman: Thanks, glad to be able to entertain someone with this. What's your favorite game from another kibitzer that you have here? If it's on your forum, you could just tell me the page number. If this is too hard of a question, I may just have to play through your immortal game on the ? page (I plan to do that anyways)...

TheAlchemist: <ganstaman> And if you want to post more of your games here, you're welcome, I'd just like to ask you, if you could put your comments in brackets, like this (<text>), so it's easier to just copy/paste to WinBoard without having to edit it first.
Jul-22-06  ganstaman: Oh no, what did I get myself into :) To make it easier for me to view those games, maybe I should download WinBoard too... I'll look it up, but I assume it's free?

.....

Ok, just downloaded it. Load game from clipboard -- !! That is so much easier than having to paste it into a pgn file, save it, and then load it. I love this thing! Thanks.

Jul-23-06  monad: <hitman84: Slovenian music has a polish touch >

It shines, does it ? :-)

Jul-28-06  monad: <TheAlchemist: > I just read in the comments page on a Karel Traxler game here that you play C57 as Black, particularly in Blitz.

I have put a query on my forum and would appreciate your views.

Aug-04-06  homedepotov: <TheAlchemist> Are you still playing on the Queen Alice site? I have an account there now. I have completed 2 games and have a 1500p rating.

TheAlchemist: <homedepotov> Hi! How you've been? Nice seeing you back.

Sure, I have the same handle as here, feel free to challenge me anytime.

Aug-04-06  homedepotov: <TheAlchemist> Doing pretty well, thanks. I have decided to use the same handle I have on Gameknot and Queen Alice as the original was a bit awkward and also to be consistent. And it was difficult for others to spell out as well when they would reply to me (lol).

TheAlchemist: YES! YES! YES! It may not seem like a big deal to some of you from bigger nations, but we have our first sprinting medal (bronze) ever at the European athletics championship in Goteborg in the 100m. In a sport dominated by black athletes and where many use illegal substances, that's a great result. I'll post a brief recap of the whole championship at the end in my forum.
Aug-08-06  YouRang: I was trying to decide if I should keep quiet about this game, or blab about it. Lipschutz vs Gossip, 1889

Blabbing won. :-)

Aug-08-06  Chopin: <TheAlchemist> I thought I should return the favor. This is the great pianist, Arthur Rubinstein, playing "Heroic Polonaise Chopin"

I hope you like it:

TheAlchemist: <Chopin> I like Chopin, if I may borrow the song title :-). The video is great, thanks!

Actually, I'm still undecided between Chopin and Liszt as to who my favorite composer is. What a dilemma!

BTW, I think Rubinstein gave his first performance in the 1890's as a young kid, and his last around 1980.

Aug-08-06  Chopin: <TheAlchemist>

I love Liszt! Actually, you'll love this link: This is Yundi Li (rising star- winner of the International Chopin competition in Warsaw in 2000) playing "La Campanella" by Franz Liszt.

Enjoy!

TheAlchemist: <Chopin> Thanks. He's awesome. This is my favorite piano composition, Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody no.2:

<This is my favorite piano composition, Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody no.2:> Lang Lang is unreal.

I can't stop listening to that guitar link that you provided. Would you happen to know who originally composed that solo?

TheAlchemist: <Chopin> Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachel...) it says a young Taiwanese guitarist calling himself Jerry C: http://jerryc.tw/

Btw, did you see how many views and comments it has? It's one of the most popular videos ever on YouTube.

This guy is amazing! I'll tell you one thing, that's the best homemade video I've ever seen online-- a music video that is :)

Aug-08-06  chessmoron: Speaking of Lang Lang, I'm going to see him playing live on August 12th at Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
