TheAlchemist: Thank you, you too!

Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

   Oct-28-23 D Lazavik vs Wojtaszek, 2023 (replies)

TheAlchemist: White played a seemingly clever sacrifice, but the refutation on move 25 was simply stunning

TheAlchemist: <goodevans: Will we have another Milan-based pun tomorrow when its two big football teams face each other in the Champions League Semi-Final? https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsl... It's a huge reach, but you could call it even timelier. Unfortunately Slovaks call it ...

TheAlchemist: Amazing, what a finish, what a match. Congratulations, Ding!

TheAlchemist: <dakgootje> Thanks! But I still don't have any ideas. Help! :-)
Jul-10-06  dakgootje: Pity the already got gone with the wind for that game...as that is the best pun ive thought of so far... But i might think of something else, not sure yet, as english as non-native language is harder of course to make puns with, but you know that
Jul-10-06  hitman84: <TheAlchemist>

<Siddharta>Great band!

I liked Plastika(the music is similar to Bon Jovi)
Napoj(insane) is brilliant!
<My Dice>This is the best Video song. Rh- is a great album!
"Under Venus" is another great video!
I like "Linkin Park" so I found lot of similarities.

<Big Foot Mama>"Neki Sladkeja" is an amazing song. "Konc Sveta" is a cool Slovenglish song.
Could you get me the lyrics of these two songs ?

Jul-10-06  dakgootje: You might try something with storm or something (eg riders on the storm), but note that storm has been used twice so far: Weathering the storm & storming the fort

TheAlchemist: <hitman84> Of course! I'm happy you like them! I'll give you a brief translation, but nothing too poetical :)

<Neki sladkega> (Something sweet)

<Samo neki sladkega mam:> (I only have something sweet <In zapiha puščavski vihar> (The desert wind blows) <Dvigne pesek meter od tal> (Lifts the sand a meter from the ground) <S tal vstane mlado telo> (A young body rises up from the ground) <Do oči zakrito z lepljivo snovjo> (Covered with a sticky substance up to her eyes) <Ne razume več mojih besed> (She doesn't understand my words anymore) <Ne dosegam njenih zvezd> (I can't reach her stars)

<V očeh pa najdem> (But I find in her eyes) <Neki sladkega> (Something sweet) <Sam hudič ne ve zakaj> (The devil himself doens't know why) <V očeh le najdem> (I finally find in her eyes) <Neki sladkega> (something sweet) <Ki me vleče spet nazaj> (That drags me back again) <Spet nazaj> (back again)

<Podnev je vroče, ponoč mi je mraz> (I am hot duting the day and cold at night) <Na obzorju se svetlika obraz> (A face glimmers on the horizon) <Proti vzhodu kaplje dežja> (Rain drops on the east) <So le krinka za potoke solza> (Are only a cover for rivers of tears) <Zato bi najrajš do smrti ostal> (That's why I'd rather stay until I die) <In dilemo bi pregnal> (And chase away the dilemma)

TheAlchemist: The version of the song "Konc Sveta" you're talking about is performed by Big Foot Mama with Elvis Jackson (Slovenian ska band, who sing in English) and Edo Maajka (Bosnian rapper).

I'm sorry I couldn't find the lyrics anywhere, I'll try looking some more. I tried listening to the song, but I really can't understand some words. Sorry, I'll try and find it.

Jul-10-06  blingice: Hmm, maybe something with the MM part of MM Wind...
Jul-10-06  hitman84: <TheAlchemist>Thanks for the lyrics. very neat.

TheAlchemist: <tpstar> LOL, thank you very much!

<hitman84> Polska is Poland in Polish :-)

Jul-10-06  RolandTesh: <TheAlchemist>

<Polska is Poland in Polish.>

A great sentence :-)

Jul-10-06  hitman84: <TheAlchemist>

<Polska is Poland in Polish :-)>I thought it was some form of music.

Slovenian music has a polish touch is what I read somewhere.

TheAlchemist: <hitman84> Maybe you mean polka, which is a dance, originating from Poland, but popular in other Central European countries too, e.g. the Strauss family (Johann, Johann jr., Josef) composed many beautiful polkas, of course Chopin did too, etc. Plus, "Na Golici", which I mentioned to you, is also a polka.
Jul-10-06  dakgootje: <Hmm, maybe something with the MM part of MM Wind...> Earlier this morning i already wrote down around everything i could think of with MM, so look for inspiration for a MM-pun there ;-)
Jul-10-06  hitman84: <TheAlchemist>LOL! yes I meant Polka :)

Btw

Coming soon - A concert by Andrea Bocelli will be telecasted on our network.

The preview was very nice!

Jul-10-06  dakgootje: ¿How many pun collections youve made so far, like 5 or something?

TheAlchemist: If anyone's interested, I've finished part 2 (of 8) of the Chess Informant's 640 best games:

Game Collection: Chess Informant: 640 Best Games - Part 2

(Part 1: Game Collection: Chess Informant: 640 Best Games - Part 1)

Many brilliancies await your discovery! :-)

Jul-12-06  meloncio: SHOCKING NEWS!! At last we know what Matterazzi told Zidane to make him so badly lose self-control. He whispered in Zidane's ears: "Next season you'll be playing with Betis!". Now everything is clear and understandable, don't you think?

This is a joke rolling today over Sevilla. :-))

Jul-12-06  meloncio: <"Next season you'll be playing with Betis!".> I mean as a Betis player.
Jul-14-06  monad: <Chess Informant> Is this a series of quartely magazines? And how far back do they go? And why are they so very expensive?

I am curious to see one some time but am always put off by the price tag.

BTW, are you going to adorn these games in your collections with bits from the analysts' writing?

TheAlchemist: <monad> Hello and sorry for the late reply, I had problems with my computer that I have solved now.

Anyway, the book I'm doing the series on doesn't contain any analysis, unfortunately, it's only a collection of the best games, up to 1995 (the first 64 issues, it started in 1966). I have only one "real" Informant, that I received as a prize once, it's from 1974. I have posted bits of Kotov's analysis of the game: Tal vs Beliavsky, 1974 if you wish to have a look. Maybe I'll post some more on interesting games from that issue.

Jul-16-06  KingG: <TheAlchemist> Here are some of the first names you wanted to know about for your second Informant collection:

Peter Gallmeyer
Herman Ottevaere
Karel Falleyn

I've also submitted a few of the missing games to cg.com, so hopefully they will be uploaded soon.

But thanks for making those two collections, they are both great.

Jul-16-06  dehanne: <Herman Ottevaere>
That's odd, I once played a man named Herman Ottevaere with white in a team competition (draw with white)...
