Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

TheAlchemist: White played a seemingly clever sacrifice, but the refutation on move 25 was simply stunning

Jan-19-07  brankat: <CG.com TEAM> Regarding the start:

I would suggest either Saturday or Sunday. This would give everybody sufficient time to finish their work/school week, get organized, focused, prepared. Also to have preliminary discussions concerning an Opening.

Either way I suggest that start time be BY:

5:00 PM EST = 2:00 PM PST = 10:00 PM GMT = 11:00 PM CET.

(Since we are from around the Globe, this should, more or less, be reasonably convenient for all participants.)

The moves will be posted uniformly by using EST (Estearn Standard Time). (like <4:35 PM EST>).

Try to decide by sometime tomorrow(Friday) afternoon when You want the kick off!

P.S. I've just recieved the following from <Akavall>:

<Saturday 5:00 PM (the earliest) is fine, but any other time works as well. Good luck to CG.com team!>

Jan-19-07  hitman84: <brankat>WOW! Finally the team is formed :)

I'm looking forward to the game, as <chessmoron> mentioned its gonna be one hell of a damn long party!

TheAlchemist: Basically I'm OK with any starting time, so Saturday works for me. I'd like others' opinions on this matter too, so we may forward our wish to <brankat>. As he said, we have to do it by sometime today.
Jan-19-07  Zebra: Saturday is OK for me too. But tonight is my birthday, so please be understanding if I don't make a lot of sense tomorrow.
Jan-19-07  chessmoron: I'm good to go.

jessicafischerqueen: I hope we play <Sicilian> against e4.

If they play d4, I think we should <hide under the table and hope it goes away?>

I suspect there are more than a few d4 experts on our team.

Heh.

  jessicafischerqueen: Happy birthday my <brindled equine> teammate. I hope you get some great chess software or something for a present. At least something more exciting than a new <feed bag> or a date with <AP Indy> (One of <Seattle Slew's> sons, now "out to stud."}

May I suggest we take no prisoners during our game?

I want to win win win.

Jan-19-07  brankat: <TheAlchemist> Could You please check <Akavall>'s 3 posts made today in my forum? And perhaps even reply! He can't visit this forum. The only way for the 2 teams to communicate is through my forum. Thank You.
Jan-19-07  brankat: <jessicafischerqueen> I'm quite surprised You know of <Seattle Slew> and <AP Indy>! In the early to mid nineties I'd placed a whole bunch of bets on AP Indy at Exibition Park (now Hastings Park).

Between 1984-1997 I practically lived there. In '97 the track started going down the drain, so I quit. The handle went down from a mill/day to about 400 Gs, the tri pool from 200Gs to 50.000, win-4 from 40.000 to 15,000, the average field size from 9 to 5.8. In other words there was no way to make money any more.

It was the same with simulcasts from the US, because of the discrepancy in currencies the pools were not common.

I still miss the good old days :-) But I found a substitute. I'm now addicted to "Sports Action"!

Jan-19-07  brankat: <TEAM> Would You consider the postponment till 5:00 PM EST SUNDAY?

Please check my forum! Also, while You are at it, it would be very useful for ALL players to take a look at my Profile. The details regarding the game, and ALL the RULES are posted there. Thank You.

TheAlchemist: So does anyone have any objections that we start on Sunday at 5:00 PM EST? It would be best to reply directly to <brankat>'s forum.

jessicafischerqueen: <Brankat> my now departed Dad took me to <Hastings Park> from the time I was little. He also taught me to play poker and chess. I follow <Horse racing> history as avidly as hockey, NBA, and NFL history. I even know the bloodlines etc.

I don't gamble, however. (Unless I'm playing poker- The last time I saw my Dad alive we played poker with his friends).

The NYRA has a website with videos of important stakes races for the fan who wants to keep up with the "Sport of Kings".

PS I didn't know <AP Indy> raced in Vancouver? That's amazing. As you well know, he is one of the <Slew's> most productive progeny.

I wish I could find a link that shows the video replay of the 1978 Triple Crown races, and also the 1970 <Marlboro Cup> where <Exceller> beat two Triple Crown winners at once.

I also wish I could have seen these horses run live. I've got tons of Mohammed Ali videotapes, but it's harder to find historical horse racing footage.

TheAlchemist: The arbiter has ruled: the start of the game is now officially postponed until 5:00 PM EST = 2:00 PM PST = 10:00 PM GMT = 11:00 PM CET, Sunday, February, 24/2007.

So, now it's officially on.

  jessicafischerqueen: The Game is afoot!!!
Jan-19-07  brankat: <jessicafischerqueen> AP Indy didn't run in Vancouver. The races I was referring to were simucasted at EX. Park, together with the likes of Arlington Mile, Santa Anita Derby, Flamingo Stakes, Triple Crown races, Rothmans International, Queen's Plate etc.

Re: the monumental 1978 T-Crown (Affirmed and Allydar), I dont know where one can find the link. It is possible that they have something in Hastings Park video library.

Btw, You are allowed to visit my forum :-)

Did You recieve the e-mail I sent You last night? It is useful to check Your in-box occasionally :-) The mail is in regards to Niels! I got a letter (snail-mail) from him yesterday. He sends his regrads.

Jan-19-07  brankat: <ALL PLAYERS> Would You please read about this game in my Profile.

The details and ALL the RULES are posted there. I didn't put them up there for myself :-) I know the rules, afterall I had them designed. It is to help all of YOU to conduct the game in an organized fashion. Thank You.

jessicafischerqueen: Chop chop, teammates. <Branko> has the rules posted and we know our color and starting time. Should we start agonizing over what to play against e4 or d4?

Jess votes for early agonizing.

Jan-19-07  dakgootje: Are we allowed to combine 'contact the opponents' and 'kill time' to 'kill the opponents'?

jessicafischerqueen: That's the spirit <Mr. Dak> no prisoners...
Jan-19-07  dakgootje: Mr. Dak makes me feel like an old man jess.

But obviously our opponents should be slaughtered! No Mercy! Rawrrrrr ^^

jessicafischerqueen: <dakgootje> I'll be using your full title now. I keep forgetting we are almost the same age.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Jan-19-07  TTLump: Can someone answer a dumb question for me? Is the official start date now FEB 24, or was that somebody clicking on the wrong month when they looked up the date at 2:00 am?

Although I enjoy kibitzing as much as the next guy, a whole month on whether to play c5, e5, d5, f5 or Nf6 would probably exhaust the creative banter of even this group! (Imagine if we had White, it would be even worse!)

I've got it! We could spend the whole month devising a brand new opening for Black!

We could call it the "Alchemist-et-al-inov King's Queen's Indian's Center Counter Gambit Declined"!

You could play it against ANY White opening, so we could designate one person to make the moves and the rest of us could go on spring break and watch the start of the game on ESPN (did anyone remember to notify Joe Thiessman regarding the postponment?) while sipping Long Island ice tea from the porches of our beach front condos!

;)
