TheAlchemist: Thank you, you too!

Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

TheAlchemist: White played a seemingly clever sacrifice, but the refutation on move 25 was simply stunning

TheAlchemist: <goodevans: Will we have another Milan-based pun tomorrow when its two big football teams face each other in the Champions League Semi-Final? https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsl... It's a huge reach, but you could call it even timelier. Unfortunately Slovaks call it ...

TheAlchemist: Amazing, what a finish, what a match. Congratulations, Ding!

Mar-20-07  achieve: <hitman> Understood. Get well!

jessicafischerqueen: Dam <Hitman> I'm sorry to hear that. Rest and Recover, mate!!

I STRONGLY recommend we do not replace <hitman>.

Any of us might need time off, we got to keep the TEAM together... It's a great team.

Jess

Mar-20-07  brankat: <achieve> Niels, did You want to step in?

Alsso, there may be another "vacancy" in the next day or two.

Mar-20-07  Marco65: <brankat> Shouldn't we wait one or two weeks and see if hitman84 changes his mind?

<Jessica> Yes I get that feeling! A kitty is watching us!

Mar-20-07  Marco65: <brankat> Also, why is achieve eligible? Maybe I'm very optimist about the kibitzing in his forum, and nobody is any more interested in our game, otherwise if analyses are still posted there... he knows too much!
Mar-20-07  Marco65: <hitman84> Hope you recover well. I'd rather wait for your coming back!
Mar-20-07  achieve: <<achieve> Niels, did You want to step in?> No Branko, both <Jess> and <Marco65> are right. Let <hitman> recover and maybe he will play on the team again.

TheAlchemist: Of course we will wait for <hitman> to come back.
Mar-20-07  Marco65: <TheAlchemist> Back to our game, I'm still worried about the right reply to 18.fxe5. I don't think 18...dxe5 19.Qd5 is any good for us, we can't develop anything at all!

While I still think 18.fxe5 Bxg5 19.exd6 Bf6 is a good option. After the critical 20.Qc4!? Qa5 21.Qb3 Re8 might be the right move, immediately threatening the weak e4 pawn. If 22.Bg2 Bb7 23.Bh3 Rxe4! with the idea 24.Bxd7 Rxe3 25.Qxe3?? Bg5. This leads to a lot of complications I started analysing while traveling to work, I hope I can complete that tonight.

But hopefully you can correct me if I'm spending time on the wrong track, as I did previously with 21...Bb7

Mar-20-07  Zebra: Sorry, looks like I got <hitman> completely wrong. I hope he recovers soon.
Mar-20-07  dakgootje: Get well again Hitman, we don't want to miss you =(
Mar-20-07  brankat: <The Team> Technically speaking, <achieve> should not be eligible. But, there has not been much analysis happening in his forum.

Besides, it is not really a matter of <hitman84>. Maybe he'll return.

Mar-21-07  Marco65: <TheAlchemist> Forget about my previous analysis. 18.fxe5 dxe5 is very good for us: 19.Qd2 (19.Qd5? Bxg5 and White doesn't have enough compensation imho) 19...Qa5 20.b3 Rd8.

While 18.fxe5 Bxg5 19.exd6 Bf6 20.Qc4!? Qa5 21.Qb3 Re8?! 22.Rd5 and I couldn't find any improvement in this whole 18...Bxg5?! line

Mar-21-07  hitman84: If <achieve> wants to join, I have no problems with that in fact anyone who likes to take my spot feel free to ask our team captain. I'll rejoin the team in a few days if you don't find anyone to replace me.

Thanks for the concern guys, *hugs* team.

TheAlchemist: <hitman> Don't worry, you come back when you can, we'll wait. What's a few days, anyway?

I think we should maintain our original lineup as intact as possible and only replace someone if he/she doesn't want to continue anymore (after begging him/her to reconsider, of course :-)). I think we have found good chemistry (maybe that has something to do with my avatar :-)), and we should keep it that way.

jessicafischerqueen: <Hitman> very relieved you would be able to return in a few days.

<Captain, Esteemed Teammates>

I am afraid I will have to withdraw from our team/game, as I have put off way too much schoolwork and it has just come crashing down on my head today.

I have 6 papers left to write and Final Exams over the next three and a half weeks, and this is my Graduating semester.

I regret having to leave, but I really have no choice if I want to actually graduate school. I simply don't have time to even read the analysis of all of you let alone contribute any of my own.

This is a Final decision, or my Final Exams will result in my 4.0 gradepoint becoming a <failed degree>.

Many apologies, please do not urge me to reconsider, as I absolutely cannot continue working on the game and still pass school.

Best wishes, regards, and thanks to all of you-- and of course I'll be cheering for you to win!!

Yours,

Jess

jessicafischerqueen: <Captain> Thank you so much for your vote of confidence and for understanding why I have to leave.

You're a great <Captain>... i knew you would be, which is why I nominated you.

Best wishes to you and the team,
Jess

Mar-21-07  brankat: <Hitman84> We all hope You'll be back soon to help the Team. All the best to You, my friend.
Mar-21-07  brankat: <jessica> Sorry to hear You have to take a break here, but, perhaps, it has been a little overdue already :-) You have made a fine contribution to the Team so far, but now it is time You take care of School things. Good luck.

Who knows, once You are done with the exams, this game will probably still be in progress :-) You can re-join then!

Mar-21-07  brankat: <The Team> As it stands now, You are 2 players short, at least at the moment. Also, the game has been going on for 2 months already, and we are only in the early middlegame! The fatigue factor may be setting in. Perhaps You guys want to take 1 (one), day off, to re-charge, and maybe to find a replacement for <jessica>.

I would not count it is as a timeout. You would still have 2 left.

Let me know what You think, then I'll contact <Akavall>. Thank You all.

TheAlchemist: <Jessica> I understand too well, no one is a bigger specialist in putting off studies for even the most absurd reasons than me :-)

<brankat> Well, we are really in shambles now, plus I haven't seen <TTLump> and <Swapmeet> around in a while as well. We'll try to find a replacement for Jessica in the next few days. About that extra day, I usually don't prefer any special treatment, but I don't know how others feel.

TheAlchemist: About the game, I think we can now play 18...Qa5, we just have to be careful of 19.h6 and here not 19...Qxa4 20.hxg7 and 21.Qh2, but 19...g6 20.b3 and so on, I think we have analyzed similar positions before.
Mar-21-07  mckmac: <The Alchemist> I would be more than happy to be considered as a replacement on the CG.com team, if a space becomes available.

A few details: I live in New Zealand (time zones). I suppose I am rediscovering my interest in chess, having not played seriously since schooldays--I am currently middle aged.

Playing strength: not flash, currently batting low 1600's on FICS(standard).

Committments:At present, and in the forseeable future, finding enough time will not be a problem.
