| Aug-14-06 | | hitman84: <WannaBe>I have some questions, 1.Are the google videos free, I have problems viewing them. 2.What is the size of a single userforum page ie. What is the maximum no. of posts/charecters a single userforum page can accomodate ? |
| Aug-14-06 | | hitman84: <WannaBe>Never mind I figured it out..
"25 posts/page"
I still dont understand why I'm not able to view google videos ? |
Aug-14-06
 | | WannaBe: <hitman84> Can you give me an example link to a google video you trying to view? Is it because your computer don't have the software to view it? I've never used google video. I can view youtube fine, I'm wondering if the video player software is required. |
| Aug-14-06 | | hitman84: <WannaBe>The problem is I can view the first video I open after that the other videos dont load. Try opening several videos and view them one by one.
I feel they have some restrictions.I dont know.Try viewing the various chess videos(google) links I posted on my forum. |

 | | WannaBe: <hitman84> Are you still using the 'old' computer? What is your connection speed? (Dial-up?) I noticed that the Nakamura video is almost an hour long, with slow dial-ups, that takes a while to buffer. I see (noticed) that it's the same setup and youtube style of web-page design, and from your post <Try opening several videos and view them one by one> if you try to open many windows and wait for them to buffer/load, it can strain your system. I have not experienced the problem you have described in your post. |
| Aug-14-06 | | hitman84: <WannaBe>No I'm back to broadband :) I'll let you know the problem after trying once again. |

| Aug-15-06 | | chessmoron: <WannaBe> You created the prediction contest on soccer and I'm creating a prediction on basketball. Hope you join. The tourney starts this Saturday. Peace out,

| Aug-16-06 | | LIFE Master AJ: Hi!
Been busy of late. I put my computer in the shop to fix some problems - lightning fragged the modem - and I wound up doing a bunch of other stuff as well. For example, I had then do a complete diagnosis, and they found a questionable wiring harness ... perhaps and indicator of a short. They replaced the BIOS chip, and a few other minor things as well. My old (main) drive was full, so I had it replaced. Of course this meant when I got the computer back ... I had to re-install all of my software. (You cannot believe what a pain this has been.) And I have lierally thousands and thousands of Chessbase (+ PGN) files ... all scattered across three internal drives ... and two external ones. I am attempting to re-organize everything, but it has been a daunting task. I apologize if it seemed that I "dropped off the planet" for a while ... ... ... Anyway, I really enjoyed some of your "comp-vs.-comp" games. Enjoy what's left of your summer. - aj |

| Aug-17-06 | | Swapmeet: <Wannabe> Good idea for a first saturday tourney. You know I'm in. The only thing I would suggest is that if you're going to make it all 5 rds on one day, you might want to reduce the time control to 10/0, or even 5/0. 20/0 for 5 rds would produce at least 5-6 hrs of chess (and that would be if you used the automatic tourney system on FICS, which you won't have the benefit of). Now I don't have much of a life so it shouldn't be a problem, but I don't think you'll find that many takers for spending all day on FICS. |
| Aug-17-06 | | NakoSonorense: Count me in. If it's in the morning, I think I can play. I agree with Swapmeet. Five 20-minute games seem too much. 5/0 would be better for people who do not have as much free time. And it would also be better for me cuz I'm better at blitz. HoHoHoHo. |
| Aug-17-06 | | KingG: <WannaBe> Count me in. I don't really care what the time control is, but perhaps 10/0 would be a good compromise. Or maybe something like 5/3. |
| Aug-17-06 | | ganstaman: I'll play too. My name on FICS is the same as here (note that it's not gan<g>staman, though). I would absolutely love a time increment, but will play any time control. Also, everytime I ask a FICS question, you bring up Babachess (or something like that). It sounds a lot better than whatever I'm using, so do you have any more info you can give me on it (or I can google it when I get home, assuming I have the correct name)? Thanks. |
| Aug-17-06 | | ganstaman: Oh yeah, what's with this: <Chess Cafe points: 0.00.> ?!?! I want Cafe points!! Then I can spend them on... on... cafe stuff... like, more cafe points... and stuff... |
Aug-17-06
 | | WannaBe: <ganstaman> go to www.babaschess.net -> download, install. Connect to FICS. I think you'll like that interface a lot better. Give it a try! |
Aug-17-06
 | | WannaBe: <syracrophy> So far, I've got: Swapmeet (aeroszeplin)
KingG (hshah)
ganstaman (ganstaman)
NakoSonorense (NakoSonorense)
And if to make it an even number, I'll play (WannaBeCG), else I'll just TD. |
| Aug-17-06 | | NakoSonorense: Does the winner get bragging rights? Or not even that? |
Aug-17-06
 | | WannaBe: <NakoSonorense> Yes, you get bragging rights for a month. =) |
| Aug-17-06 | | JoeWms: Impressive take-charge leadership, my friend. The details were clearly set out. Impressive. Hold tight, WannaBe! |
| Aug-17-06 | | brankat: <Swapmeet> <but I don't think you'll find that many takers for spending all day on FICS.> You''ll find <WannaBe>. That's what he does when at work :-) |
| Aug-17-06 | | dr.roho: yo <wannabe>! Um my name or handle or whatever you want to call it is <efourforlife>. I want to play in this tournament. Can you just answer this question: how can you chat in the console on FICS. i went to channel 123 but i didnt know how to chat with othere people. i just had to keep pressing the 'ask question' button to get my comments out there. I just wanted to let you know that you have done a super job orginizing this thing. Last tournament was difficult for many to understand. (<positionalgenius> if you're reading this dont take it personaly) I'll be looking forward to this tournament. remember i am <efourforlife> in FICS. later, man
| Aug-17-06 | | dr.roho: <wannabe> can it not be a saturday? Usually people are out and about or asleep on saturday. I always leave town on saturday. Or if it cant be that can you make it later? if i am not leaving town on saturday then i am probably sleeping. Well if it's too much of a hassle i dont want to screw up your entire tournament with this message but if it can be done i would appreciate it. later, man |
Aug-18-06
 | | WannaBe: <brankat> I do not spend time at work on FICS. =) <dr.roho> if you are on channel 123, but no one else is on there, you won't receive any messages. I think will stick with the current proposed schedule (unless a lot of people start complaining about the starting time, but it's hard to please everyone, considering the world have 24 time zones =). I think it's the 'best' time for people from different continents and time zones. |
| Aug-18-06 | | positionalgenius: <wannabe>I'll participate in a Sept tournament if you hold one.Or October. |
| Aug-18-06 | | JoeWms: <dr.roho> Hi! I doubt <WannaBe> will mind my posting you on his forum. He is rather busy running a tournament, and, like any uncompensated volunteer, needs all the help he can get. It can turn out to be a thankless job. You know from your interaction with TD <positionalgenius> the last couple of days that every player wants things to be done his way, maybe even hoping to gain some slight advantage along the way. I hesitate to say, "Oh it's just human nature," because I don't think it is. My tournament experience is a long time past but what I do remember is that players pretty much let the TD do his own thing: run the tournament. Okay, so what's this got to do with you? Maybe nothing. I read your profile a little bit ago.
<You would probably never guess that I am only 13.> Never? Because you're a perspicacious kid who might know what perspicacious means? It was the <only> that got to me. <I love to debate about anything.> The words <argue> <discuss> and <debate> are not alike. Our friend <Chess Classics> is 13 also, and he spends the summer at a debate camp to learn the rules and protocols of debate. (He runs correspondence tournaments on this site, too.) You're on your way to becoming a great debater. You're halfway there already: you're not afraid of confrontation. (Neither am I. If I can face off with a 13-year-old, I can probably jump over tall buildings.) <I am always looking to stir up a debate.> That's just fine. <For you.> Hey, what's your name? Come on, you're not going to make me call you Doctor Roho, are you? Be my friend, little doctor. I have made many friends in my 76 years, and I have a place for you. Do you want to get into it with me on my chessforum? Strange things going on there lately. I welcome <discussion> on any subject but chess. My profile tells why. I would not care to host the hate stuff on my forum, though. Better yet: Become a premium member and enjoy your own place. You would have a fine time. G'night.
